Lyrics:
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could be together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play
Keep it up, keep it up
Yo yo yo yo

I love how, across every music video by the police, Stewart will always drum on some random object. Class.
Lol totally
well beyond brilliant for posterity !!!
In most interviews, Stewart humbly claims that he's just a guy "who bangs on shit". He says he's random, and maybe that's true, but we all know that he always found beats that nobody knew even existed in time, which makes his drumming...well, timeless.
@@jasonhearn9844 unbridled brilliance ===== SC !!!

Me: What instrument do you play?
Sting: Bass and vocals
Andy: Guitar
Stewart: The Saturn V

Heavy and powerful instrument... Start engine Stewart!
Technically the F1 engine of the Saturn V, but I digress....
It'd be a great pick up line 😂😂
The ears
This proves that music doesn't have to be complicated. Less is more.
yes dude😉
I'm sure it's much more complicated than it sounds and that an average person wouldn't be able to replicate the sounds on offer-particularly Stewart Copelands drumming and percussion.
There's few elements, but I guess they (or at least a couple of them) are more complexified.
A golden rule 👍
That’s the art of production
What they did between 1978 and 1983 is just unbelievable. What a band. So much space for afterthought in their music, but still you don't miss a thing. Minimalism, energy, attitude and skill.
Great comment right here and well said. I guess we're showing how much older we all are now.

The Police
Agree: absolutely amazing group; had the privilege of seeing them play live at Aylesbury Friars in 1983.
These guys were on a whole different level, rock style influenced by punk, reggae and jazz. Absolutely brilliant!
One was a jazz/60s rock guitarist and the other two were prog with Egyptian influences and jazz
Yeah I was into these guys, and as a kid, on a couple of occasions, I swore I saw that drummer maestro on the streets.
But I could've been right innit

1981, 20 yrs old, in the military, early afternoon walked into a lounge barely opening for the day and a song was playing kinda low but I got hooked on the beat. Asked the bartender the name of the song, says, "Walking On The Moon, the Police"..... never forgot, love this song to this day in 2024!

CLASSIC!
Im 20 now. Wow.
My dad gave me the singles record, i started playing on my room in 1992, soon all my neighbours were asking me to borrow the album.
I am also listening in 2024. And it's just as good as it was back then. THANK YOU
The 80s must have been an exciting time to be alive. Can anyone confirm?
You are correct
The 80s have produced a lot of great music which is still played to this day. But in the first place the 80s were exciting because we were young back then.
we didn't know how good we had it
The 80s were awesome!
It was! I was a starting goaltender on my hockey team, a beautiful girlfriend, Reagan in office--not a senile, pedophile who can't draw a crowd of 20 yet he "won" 81 million votes? Bullshit. Reagan made us proud to be Americans. The music was awesome: The Police, Elvis, Joe Jackson, Genesis, Dylan's "Infidels", tom Petty, etc. MTV was exciting and we waited for new videos. People were alert and not zombies walking with their iphones. People were nicer and the US society was more polite and crime was punished.
Bob Marley would be proud of this song.
The reggae undertones in a lot of polices songs.
Feel it every one of your senses.
Completely agree. The 2s and 4s and that bassline is reggae all over. This is their best tune imo
I must listen to bob marley next thanks
You def feel that... like your on the islands 🏝 same with every little thing she does... the genius of these 3 men.
They're an honest ode to reggae music. This song for example has that soul. It has soul to it that everyone can relate to and feel inspired by.
for a second i thought i was really the only one to notice, and was desperate reading the comments like, am I the only one that sees the fact that most of their songs are reggae?
its hard to believe this song is 40 years old.
It's hard for me to believe that I'm 46 and stuff like this from my childhood is 'classic' now :)
Yeah but the Police music aged well. But look how old and obsolete music from 1939 was in 1979....
Timeless classic!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes sir. Time marches on. Times they are a-changing
You're wrong 'cause the time does not exist
This song has, by far, the most articulated and perfected drumming ever recorded in popular music
I agree! I came on here to listen to just that : )
That majesty is Stewart Copeland. The only American member of the band.
The drumming is out of this world so artistic especially when combined with the video

Just reacquainted myself with this song after so many years. Didn't appreciate just how clever and beautiful it is. The drums especially are played like a lead instrument while the bass compliments and the guitar provides the beat. Great group, great musicians.
Great observation 🥰
It really is quite standard reggae drumming. There is one drop, steppers and rockers. Then, of course they throw some rock style drumming in the mix...
@@razakza There is too much syncopation and rushing the beat, to be a real reggae drumming.. but it worked for them, so... I like what they did
Wow... I never thought about it like that, I just heard polyrythms. Very cool role inversion.

No, they wouldn't be a huge band and let me explain you the reason why: The three of them are great musicians but the formula that made them popular back them was good for awhile but then they became repetitive so that wouldn't last that long, same would have happened with Nirvana if Cobain still would be alive. I think the only band that could succeed using the same formula over and over again is AC/DC, they have a unique voice, a unique guitar sound and even though they've copied themselves many times people still love their music.
