  • In todays Mountain landscape painting tutorial we are going to learn how to paint mountains with with acrylics.
This mountain landscape acrylic painting tutorial for beginners and intermediate painters. Is designed to be challenging for new painters. As the mountain painting tutorial will cover what brushes to use, what colours to mix, how to paint mountains with acrylics for beginners and intermediate painters, how to add highlights and shadows, how to create distance, how to paint trees etc. Which after the tutorial you will know how to paint mountains like Bob Ross.
I have used a 10 inch x 12 inch white pre gessoed canvas board for this mountain landscape painting for beginners. But you can paint on paper, card and a board if you choose to at home.
None of the techniques in this how to paint mountains with acrylics video are hard. But they are time consuming. Try your best and take your time when painting. Go at your own speed and relax. Acrylics are great for beginners as they are so easy to use and if you make a mistake. Just dry your work and you can paint over it.
Please have a hairdryer handy to dry your work in places. Acrylics dry very fast, but the hairdryer allows you to quickly dry your work in order to not make a mistake.
By taking your time with each stage you will learn how to improve your realism but also how to paint a mountain landscape.
Please enjoy this forest landscape painting, and please be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments below :)

I have watched a lot of how to videos, trying to find someone who can explain their thoughts behind the brush. I have to be honest I have learned the most from you. You are a really good teacher. Could you please maybe do a few more landscape tutorials with trees or a close up of a crashing wave like inside the tunnel?

Love your channel. I have MS and unfortunately my right side is affected. I have only just started painting again but now with my left hand (I am right handed). Your realistic paintings are beautiful and you teach it so well. I would love to paint a waterfall scene. Is this something you would consider a tutorial, say like the waterfalls of Canada or Switzerland? Thank you

I actually think the flowers ended up looking perfect. Thank you for showing how you correct mistakes. I need to learn how to correct things vs throwing my painting away lol

No worries. Don’t worry I also get the rage 😤 and have chucked lots of paintings in the bin 🗑 over the years. Including tutorials that never make it here on TH-cam. But I think 🤔 with acrylics. A good rule of thumb, is to just dry them. Go away and do something else and come back to them with a more level head 😂 . Also the more your paint or do anything. It gets easier. So don’t beat yourself up if you get like that. It’s totally normal. Shows you care how It comes out which is a good sign. It shows your trying to improve 👍

@@MSTEWARTPAINTINGSwhy throw a canvas out?? Just paint a solid color and use it again... most of my paintings have 4 to 5 layers of failures underneath. I estimate how many layers a given canvas has based on how heavy it is

Hi Murray, beautiful painting! I'm a noob and was was wondering whether you use a paint retarder or a bit of water with your paint to allow for blending before the paint dries. Thanks!

Great question 🙋‍♂. I just use water to clean my brushes. But I use manly just a moist brush that I dip in water just to wet it. So the paint spreads easier. But not to much water that the paint gets really thin and it looks all streaky. With blending. I use a clean, dry blender brush. Which is a soft bristled brush. A bit like a make up brush. I just use the soft brush and mix areas together with no water and little paint. A bit like when you shade on a pencil ✏. You ease up on pushing down so less paint comes off the brush and it should blend easier by pushing down lightly on the canvas. I might make a little TH-cam short for everyone just on what brushes do what and how to use them. As much easier to show you. I think there are a view examples when I’m painting in the sky and the mountains of this.

@@sixstrings4568I actually got a few actual makeup brushes of various sizes for blending and they work sooo much better than regular brushes.. the bristles are just soo soft.
