      Hello Ilythia.
      I started my collection blind buying, and I still do it. I don't bought a cheap perfumes unless it's stunning . I have just one celebrity perfume ( Fancy) just cause I love it. I decluttering the one that it's not work for me, or I didn't wear it for a long time.

      I tend to order samples and decants first before going ahead with a bottle. Before I use to blind buy a lot, now I will only blind buy after watching reviews and knowing the notes and themes I like.
      I have bought bottles as well and not always for the perfume, I no longer buy just because I love the bottle

      It’s tempting to want to blind buy when watching a bunch of perfume TH-cam videos lol I started doing that but being new to niche when I get them they didn’t smell how I expected them to. I was also buying a lot from Mercari but it was always iffy whether it’s real or not. So now I buy decants or discovery sets to try first. It would be great to get a video of how to spot a fake when buying online or from discount site outside of buying brand new from the typical retailers.

      Still at a place where I can only afford dupes of niche perfumes. So my collection only has designer and the only celebrity perfume I have is SJP Lovely. Would love to splurge on a Micallef though..

    A few things I have learnt is that:
    1.I don’t need to own every perfume I like the smell of.
    2. I do like my perfume to last, but I don’t want it to be TOO long because I like to wear another in the evening (so I can get through my stash!)
    3. You can still have a signature scent but not wear it everyday. For me, it’s Mon Guerlain because it feels like the fragrance that’s NEVER inappropriate.
    4. Compliments do matter to me! Even if it’s just from my husband 😂
    Thanks for your video 🥰

      I appreciate compliments especially from my boyfriend because he loves perfumes as well and is very picky when it comes to things he likes on me. If he likes it, it's definitely a winner. 🤗

    It’s funny how much my thinking has evolved about perfume buying over the last 18 months!
    I too learned to take my time to test fully before dismissing something - well most of the time! Sometimes it’s just so ….. yuck, wash it off!!!! I also take more time in deciding what to purchase. And although I like the beauty of the full bottles I’ve realized that some perfumes are only travel spray worthy.
    At least a third of my collection I would not repurchase and I want to hone in on the ones I truly want in the future.
    When I think about the money I’ve spent on fails and meh blind buys I am sick. I could have had what I REALLY wanted but was being a cheapskate.
    Also I do like designer and clearly you do too but there comes a time when you realize you don’t need another si, alien, or Lancôme flanker in the collection. New ones have to serve a purpose for me and I’m finding sometimes I have to go niche to get what I’m looking for.

    I feel kind of lucky to not be able to blind buy in a way. I’m only a teenager so I don’t have the financial means to buy a perfume and not like it nor the ability to re sell.
    This means I always buy in shop and I think I prefer it this way. I always make a day out of buying a new fragrance. I smell a couple, purchase the fragrance and enjoy the day. I can’t imagine blind buying but we will see…

    Buying hyped up perfumes - I think we have all been there. I know you like them but I blind bought Delina and MFK BR 540 and I hated both of them and still do. I am more controlled now buying perfumes and would never buy a perfume purely based on hype. Samples are the way to go for me now 😊💪

  • @1naturalbeauty
    @1naturalbeauty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have definitely learned that I have to test samples on my skin and not judge it so quickly based on the way they smell on paper. And also to take my time with the sample before rushing to purchase the fragrance.

    I still have 10 perfumes in my collection. Never have I fell into the trap of cheapies. Try to test most perfumes I am interested before I buy and I think very carefully before I bring something into my collection. Haven’t sampled a gazillion perfumes so I am still pretty happy with designer fragrances and I intent to keep it that way. I am a happy gal. Plus there are other things I like to buy as well 😄

  • @sunnyscents1818

    I can certainly understand all your points❤️ but it is such a personal thing when it comes to perfumes ☺️ I enjoy buying “cheapies” because to some it may cost too much even if it were only 10$ what I have changed since I started my collection is to go ahead and donate all the ones that I don’t use within 6 month’s, there are so many places where one can donate so that someone else who wants to smell good or feel good about themselves can do so at no expense ❤️

I have a huge declutter group that I'm going to donate. I still really enjoy watching haul/testing new fragrances videos, but am really putting much effort into using/enjoying what I currently have. ❤❤❤ I feel like I've come back up to the surface after a deep dive into the fragrance pool!

    @4legkids388 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi there, I've watched quite alot of your videos...and I have to admit that you had me disappointed many times...esp on your declutters. I've always felt that you don't always give yourself enough time to get to know fragrances. I never posted my thoughts, because to each his/her own....and it's your money. However, I'm very happy to hear how you recognize that different approaches are often needed, and time, in the perfume world. My collection is over 300... mixed of niche/designer...no joke. I'm slowly decluttering, not rashly, to be totally content with my decision. Not just to get the numbers down. I ask myself "can I live without it"...and time will help me make that decision. Keep evolving.... perfume is an art!

    • @thesimplechiclife
      @thesimplechiclife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. I suppose I have gotten really good at decluttering because I’ve been practicing minimalism in my life for years. So this came very easy. But, with perfume and tastes changing over time, I’m realizing that sometimes - not ALL the time - (some I just know lol) - I do need to put it away and come back to it.

    Amazing video! I totally agree that when you buy dupes you sometimes (most of the time) are still longing for the real thing… i love your idea of having them on display but in the dark, as perfumes do have a shelf life, i sometimes keep the boxes around for moments where i dont wear my summer perfumes and all, i will definately buy those gorgeous trays and switch them around ✨ SO true that you need to try them on before making a decision… bravo for having done so much self reflexion on the way you experienced perfumes and transmitted that to your viewers 💪🏽

    I enjoy the aesthetics and content of your videos. Suggestions for future videos- how do you source samples of higher end fragrance samples for those that do not live in major cities, also how do you declutter and sell fragrances that you want to declutter. Also can you discuss what candle brands you use. Thanks so much for your efforts to produce these videos. I find your voice very soothing and appreciate your informative knowledge.

    So much wisdom and truth. I couldn't help but think of all the thousands of women who just jumped and bought that new Fenty ... spending over $130 and 95% of them never smelling it. Silly question, should I keep samples of scents I don't like (I guess to remind me I don't fancy them)?

    Hello Ilythia.. My perfume journey is about 25 years long. I my gosh I feel old writing that.☺️ I absolutely agree with you. I have also learned that it actually takes me quit a long time to test a perfume properly. I,m testing a perfume for weeks now before buying a full bottle.. In the past I only tried a perfume for a couple of times and that was definitely wrong. I have waisted so much money on perfumes that I thought I liked, but in the end I didn’t.. I was never reaching for them.. I have actually realized that the perfumes that I was very critical about in the first days I was testing them, turned out to be my favorites after I let them grow on me. I have so many perfumes, but I only have a few ones that I very offen have to rebuy, because I use and love them so much. All of them were perfumes that had to grow on me and perfumes that I had to work with for a long time, before I really fell in love with them.. One of them is BDK Gris Charnel. I never thought that I would treasure this perfume so much. In the first days of testing it was way to green for me, probably because of the Vetiver.. I thought it would be to maskulin if that makes any sense, but it turned out to be such a special and so soothing perfume and now I absolutely love it.. It works so well on my skin.. Have a beautiful day Ilythia..Greetings from Germany..

    I only made a few blind buy disappointments based on hype. I don’t love the salt notes in Olympea, or Hermès Merveille blue perfume, or strong vetiver, learned from Decadence. Some of my blind buys taught me to appreciate new types of fragrances. I absolutely survived Covid lockdown, (with my husband immuno suppressed) because of Fragrance TH-cam channels like yours Ilythia. I loved writing perfumes down, and then reading Fragrantica comments, and checking/waiting for FragranceNet to have an affordable way to buy it. I never purchased a dupe. Declutters are my favorite, and I cheer inside that those were the ones I chose not to blind buy. I m satisfied where I am with my collection and enjoyed every bit of this diversion-hobby. I did discover 2 favorite blind buy cheapies because of you- Lovely and R.E.M. Thanks!

    I always liked perfumes but my “journey” started with SmurfyGirly’s video on Shalimar Souffle de Parfum. I bought a decant off eBay at the end of 2018. I lived in Phoenix at the time and Scottsdale is an amazing place to perfume shop. You have Dillards, Nordstrom, Neimans, Saks, and the designer stores themselves. Also there was a local perfumer who carried niche, Amouage, Serge, montale, mancera. I went nuts and smelled absolutely everything, went weekly almost, got my nose on every new release. So I learned what notes I like and don’t like before Covid, which helped prevent a lot of blind buying. I’ve sampled tons and have had hundreds of samples, but my collection sits at only 30 bottles and 40 travel sprays, though I’m itching to declutter soon and get some new ones lol.

    While I can totally relate to almost all your points, I have a different experience with cheapies (which I mostly blind bought): at the beginning of my journey they helped me a lot to find out what I like and what not.
    And the bit more expensive blind buys, too. I felt it would be too much of a waste of money to just declutter them because I do not totally love them, so I wore them nevertheless and turned out that some became total loves. There are scent categories which I would have never discovered otherwise.
    So I guess every step in the journey has its value 😀

  • @irenelalouve2679

    I agree with every single thing you said - another is, if you don't want /can't afford to spend too much on designer perfumes, is to not buy them when they first come out, just wait and and get them later on, when the price has significantly dropped, and they become more affordable. Now, the catch there, is the dreaded reformulations... there is a big risk that after all that waiting time a lot if not all perfumes to have been reformulated and not for the better (whether the notes have changed, the quality of ingredients has dropped hence the sillage and duration of the perfume has done so as well... -sighs)
