- This event took place on 2 November 2022. The information below is correct as of the publication date.
Róisín Murphy sits down with Classic Album Sundays founder and radio host/DJ Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy for an in-depth discussion of her musical inspirations.
Róisín first made her name as one half of the electronic music duo Moloko and since then has released a string of admired solo albums including her latest, Róisín Machine. Her trademark electronic disco and house sound, and her fabulous performance style have taken Róisín to ever acclaim and popularity.
Amidst the chat the two Murphys play records of some of Róisín’s favourite artists along with some of her own work. The event concludes with a Q&A with the audience.
Classic Album Sundays, founded by Colleen Murphy, is a long-running series of events (not always on Sundays!) and a rich website that tells the stories behind the albums that have shaped our culture and our lives.

"Sing it Back" and "The Time is Now" are classics and are masterpieces.
A great live performer and puts her heart and soul into whatever she does.
Roisin Machine is such a Queen 👑 (did you see what I did there? 🤣)
RM6 is coming! Every project/album Roisin has created has been a masterpiece. I'm excited for what 2023 has in store for Roisin and us fans.
Roisin's tracks

Iggy Pop - I wanna be your dog
Gwen Guthrie - Seventh Heaven [Larry Levan Mix]
Dr. Octagon - 3000

Handsome boy molding school - the truth
Roisin Murphy - Through Time
✨❤THANK YOU❤✨
"Statues" is definetly the best album from Moloko, and one of the best break-ups albums ever. It's perfect. Timeless. "Over & over" is epic.
It's sad that they did not speak about "Hairless Toys" and "Take Her Up To Monto". This two are so interesting albums. Especially "Hairless Toys". It's probably the best album from Róisín, in my opinion. It's so sublime and almost poetic. And "Unputdownable" is such a great love song.
Everything you wrote is exactly what I was going to write. Great interview, but how can you skip the two masterpieces that are “Hairless Toys” and “Take Her Up to Monto”?! I happened to listen to both of them today after not having done so in about a year, and it just reaffirmed how so next level she is. Most everything else does not measure up as good as her work.
Well said!
Yeah, Statues is a criminally underrated gem! Genius!
Is a pleasure to listen to this smart and funny woman, I just love her
Class act!
Roisin is so authentic
Major FOMO …anything with this woman is GOALZ…THANK YOU for posting this ❤
I’m here because my BBC have expunged her; it’s the only way they could try to stop her new album Hit Parade being no.1.
Still managed to peak at #5 her highest charting album ever in the uk
So excited to listen to this ❤❤❤
Cannot wait for her next album
Immensely talented singer!!

Are you still supporting her? I HOPE so.
Definitely, can’t believe BBC have scraped the night she was going to do, actually I can believe it coz they are woke shite
To err is human.
I just bought a ticket for her Hit Parade Tour in Hamburg😍
The guy who asks about Unputdownable at 1:19 has such a beautiful deep voice.
I'm such a big fan of Roisin and I live so near the British Library, and still managed to miss this event 😢
Could someone do the list of the tracks played, please?
PLEASE!

And first : shirley bassey - if you go away ( ne me quitte pas)
such a great conversation.
The first song that was censored in this video was: "If You Go Away (Ne Me Quitte Pas)" from Shirley Bassey. Second: "I wanna be your dog" - The Stooges. The third: "Gwen Guthrie - Seventh Heaven (12" US Remix By Larry Levan 1986)" They all be found here on YT by copying and pasting the text in quotes.
She is a queen, cannot find another word to discribe her
Her Majesty; Queen Murphy.
Is there uncut version?
Statues is real magic ❤
Boris Dlugosch - Never Enought.
Can anyone repeat the name of the series ? Thanks
Pretty remarkable person.
#Who Wan LEATHER-PLAY with the CEO of the CoCo-Broadway?!

Gwen Guthrie - it should have been you !!!!
We met her by chance in Los Angeles after attending her gig two nights prior and we were shocked by how rude she was to us. We just raised our hands making a love heart from a fair distance to show love and gratitude but she acted like we pointed a gun at her. She was queueing behind us. As the queue moved, she stood right next to us. We did not look at her and did not ask for pics or anything. We didn't even want any of that. We could see she was really bothered. When she was forced to stand next to us again, she started screaming at staff. We were so disappointed by her behaviour. As long time fans, we were heartbroken. As a person of color, we wonder why she felt so threatened by a loving gesture. We will never listen to her songs again. Artists should not bite the hands that feed them. If I could have a refund for every gig and album of hers I purchased I would. She is nothing like the persona she sells and was truly awful to watch. The way she treated staff at the venue was awful. A smile would have been so much easier but she chose to be awful instead. Stay away if you see her in public.
I would be uncomfortable if somebody I did not know made what they perceived as a warm to me that I did not understand, and I am not even famous. So maybe you made her uncomfortable, even a little frightened. I am sure you know most stars of he calibre are protected by some form of security.
As regards you being person of color, her choices of songs that influenced were wrote and performed mostly by people of color, from the US.
I am Irish, so is she, so I would have expected her to have been influenced by an Irish singer. However I am not disappointed that an Irish singer did not influence her.
@@jamesdolan4042 I think a love heart is universally understood as a nice gesture. I think people who are at least 15 meters away with a crowd of people between them are also not an immediate threat. I think that when people notice they've made you uneasy and leave you alone, there is no need to start mistreating others just to not stand next to them. We weren't following her, we were ahead of her. She was nasty and rude. She had no security. No one knew who she was. In a way, we made the heart to show that she had fans in that unlikely place. In any case, you weren't there or you would've seen how truly unpleasant she was. Trust me, we were the saddest people in the room learning Murphy's law.
