    There is a huge boost on any computer upgrading a mechanical spin drive to an ssd based drive.
    Ive recyclet an old imac 27" mid 2011 and made it as my home office working machine. The 27" got a lot of nice workings mods to upgrade. You got a "hidden" not used third SATA3 Port(you can use two SSDs when you remove the standard Drive bay and just take two ssds in that place. Raid0 is due to apfs a mess, so, my plan to boost my perfomance from 5xxmb/s up to 900mb/s failed with monterey, but all my upgrade were worth the money. Ive ordered a working wx4150pro with 4gb as an upgrade and used oclegacy patcher and modded that config a bit and now im using flawless monterey and win10 just on that old machine. And i upgraded from that i5 cheap on that i7 2600 which people sell for little money, cause you have no benefit taking the k version. After all mods i have a fast imac now with full metal gpu support, much more power und pretty cheap(except the work you put into it). After all, its working great and i costs me less then buying a newer imac version and due to my upgrades(bt4 and newer wlan adapter is on the way) i got no real downsides so far.

      If I added a ssd to a mid 2011 that has High Sierra on it. How can I get a more modern OS?

    • @peterrai8706
      @peterrai8706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loopster40 The 2011 iMac is limited to High Sierra due to hardware. Namely the GPU, it does not support Metal Graphics which is required by recent versions of MacOS. However you can upgrade the GPU and patch the OS to boot into newer versions of MacOS.

      Question here ....
      What SATA speed can I reach on my old iMac 27" late 2011 ??
      Is it SATA III ??
      I want to keep my CD/DVD drive as well as the internal HDD.
      I heard there is another port for an internal SSD ...
      Can you tell me ?? And what SATA read/write speeds this will give ??
      Last question:
      My iMac runs perfect on Windows 11 22H2 as the only one Operating System, but no sound out of the speakers. How do I fix this ??

    Is the thermal sensor kit really needed or an ssd fan control can be suficient ?

    • @TMTChannel2020
      @TMTChannel2020  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, a thermal sensor fan is not necessary for a standard SSD upgrade on most Macs. SSDs generally generate less heat compared to traditional hard drives, and Macs often don't require additional cooling for them. However, it's essential to ensure compatibility and follow manufacturer guidelines during the upgrade process.
