Man...I miss this era of Wrestling...the late 70s & early & mid 80s. In my opinion the best era/years of Wrestling to ever come around. This is before Vince McMahon & the WWE ruined Wrestling. This is an era when all the wrestlers looked real...they looked like legitimate BAD-ASSES...they looked like they just walked out of a bar & were ready to fight anyone!!! No big lightshow...no loud entrance music...no silly gimmicks...no corny storylines...& no goofy looking costumes...JUST REAL WRESTLING AT IT'S BEST!!! And now...we never see masked wrestlers...especially ones who win a belt & defend it. Much love from Mobile Alabama.
Great match from two legends. I saw plenty of matches between these two when they were both in the Mid-Atlantic area where the "Spoiler" wrestled as the "Super Destroyer."
USED TO GO TO NORTH SIDE COLLISEUM, MONDAY NITES IN EARLY SEVENTIES TO SEE THESE GUYS AND MORE VALENTINE,DEAN HO,IVAN PUTSKI. THOSE WERE GOOD DAYS.AS A 9 10 YEAR OLD WAS THE BOMB. 60 NOW.
You'll never see matches like this anymore. Those chops of Wahoos were legit and brutal. When he hit you, you were hit. The Spoiler had the claw along with Pak Song, the Von Erichs. Who else?
Better believe it. I used to cheer him on at Charleston's County Hall and on TV Saturday mornings back in early to mid-'70s. Loved that guy. Found him online in fall '04 and corresponded with him until he passed two years later. After retirement, he married a woman Canadian Mountie (RCMP) who maintained his cool web site. So long ago.
When I was a kid in the seventies , I never got as excited as when the good guy went for the other guy's mask . I would stand up and cheer wide eyed trying to see the mystery man's face if I could . Because of that I was a huge fan of masked men . Even if they were heels . I especially liked a guy in Louisiana called Doctor X . Danny Hodge and he got into titanic bloody battles and Hodge swore to unmask him . Underneath that mask was Red Osbourne . But I did not know that for thirty plus years . Thanks , Internet .
i got to give credit where credit is due....wahoo had the most powerful chop in wrestling...because flair s chops would not have sent the spoiler flying over 15 feet across the ring...
It's possible that he never wanted those titles. After a bit they become like an albatross around your neck. That's why Jack Brisco dropped it to Terry Funk. He was so tired of all the travel. He wanted a more stable life.
Wahoo may not have wanted an NWA title run. The NWA title required an intense travel schedule that required the champion to travel all over the US and all over the world defending the title. Most top guys wanted to stay in their own territory, drawing good money and being able to go home on most nights, as opposed to living in hotels and traveling all over the world for years at a time.
Very enjoyable timeless little ahead it time real life possible well done classic heel vs hero with great underrated talent future and past pro wrestlers with commentator that is smart business like smooth insightful teacher point video
Such a shame this was forced into 16:9, stretching and distorting everything. :( @13:15 - There's something you don't see these days: a wrestler going to the top ropes and immediately doing his move instead of standing there posing (even when it's not specifically so the other guy can have time to pull him down).
He even had a masked character called The Punisher early on in his career, essentially an homage to The Spoiler. (I'm only just learning this today. LOL.)
The spoiler trained The undertaker and the spoiler is the only one that can walk the ropes better than the undertaker I've seen him walk all the way around the ring on the top rope. I used to watch this Porter restroom when I was a little kid with my grandpa.

I'll post a comment on a forum re politics, sports, etc., and I'll get idiots who tell me they didn't bother reading my comment because "I quit reading after the 5th line,"...and not realize how pathetic they made themselves sound, esp to people that used to understand drama, suspense, build-up, drama at the wrestling matches!
@@teller1290 Isn't that the truth....back in the 60's when Fritz Von Erich, Spoiler & Co. wrestled, my Dad told me that back in the 40's the Wrestlers would keep their opponent "in a hold" anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. Can U imagine that!!!
The referee could have made the count from anywhere in the ring and he chose to full mount Wahoo's back. What the Hell was that? Why are you on top of that man? 🤭
Jeff Almaguer this is definitely Don Jardine (aka The Spoiler). He has an eagle tattoo on his forearm, which is always the tell tale sign. Plus, the use of the ropes is a dead giveaway. Jardine was incredibly athletic for his size.
Eric Baker ....okay the Spoiler that rivaled Tom Jones at Southwest Championship Wrestling was not as fit as this guy. Had a claw too and he used it on Tom Jones throat making him spit up blood. That Spoiler didn't use the ropes like Don' Jardine did. Oh well it was 30 plus years ago.
I would use DQs as a reason to strip a champion and force a rematch to determine a champion , or perhaps a tourney . Just giving the title back seems weak . In boxing a disqualification would crown a new champion . Or at leadt the title being suspended . You could always have the exchamp win it back but this way cheating is more potent .
Listen to the shoot onThe Spoiler by Gary Hart it seems like Don Jardine had a very bad temper should have been thrown in jail for attacking hotel manager
Mitch Weissman Don Jardine (aka The Spoiler) supposedly trained the Undertaker. I’m not sure if that’s 100% true, but Undertaker sure modeled his ringwork on Spoiler’s.
You know , masked men as great as they were , were silly . It realky signalled to fans that wrestling was not to be taken seriously . Imagine seeing a boxer trying to brand himself with a secret identity . It would not get over . Or a Quarterback in the NFL or CFL wearing a mask and taking a silly name . Wouldn't work .( Kenny " The Snake " Stabler notwithstanding ) . For that matter imagine John Riggins wearing an Indian Warbonnet . Only in wrestling is this accepted .
james lott Gary Hart was the man who turned Don Jardine into the brutal Spoiler that fans came to know and boo. If it weren’t for Hart (and to a lesser extent Fritz Von Erich), Jardine would never have had the career he went on to have.
He did real well in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling as Super Destroyer with no manager. He was something else there for a couple years until Crockett's wanted to trash his legit heel creds he worked up there and he refused. They then leaked his identity and photo on Saturday morning show. At 14, I never enjoyed wrestling quite as much after that. They claimed he was unmasked in some rinky dink arena and showed some grainy film where you couldn't see a thing. After I got internet in '04, I caught a Jardine podcast where he denied losing his mask and said Crockett's hosed him. Found him online and had more than a few emails back and forth. Passed in 12/06 at 66-67 yrs.
Spoiler was a monster!! He used to be one of my favorites! he and Bruiser Brody!
The turned-mask gimmick with The Spoiler putting the iron claw on everyone was pure genius!
Grew up in Houston and tried like heck to never miss a Saturday nite at 10:30 to watch Paul Boesch and Houston Wrestling!!!!Great fun!
Loved hearing Boyd Pierce announce “Fiiiive minutes!!!”

My exact sentiments to you on all of this! I feel the same way!
TOTALLY TRUE
Need more of the 70’s
That's for sure!
R.I.P. Donald Delbert Jardine and Edward McDaniel.
Before the match I bet it would end in a dq. I would guess that 65% of title matches ended in dq. Still fun to watch.
And Rip Gary Hart
@@carlosdanger947 is this the same Gary Hart who used to manage The Spoilers? If so, hadn’t heard he had passed.
@carlosdanger947 the spoiler chief wahoo and Gary hart have all passed on
These were 2 legit tough guys outside of the ring.
Wahoo should've got a run as A.W.A. World Champion. Shameful that it didn't happen.
ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR SOMETHING THE WWWF COULD NEVER ACCOMPLISH.
Never
The timing! The selling! The stiff moves! I would watch this over todays wrestling any day.
What a classic. Loved Jardine.

matthewmayhem that’s really cool. I loved Jardine’s Spoiler growing up.

One hell of a match Don Jardine the greatest masked man in wrestling. Even the Undertaker copied his walking the ropes moves.
Judging by Wahoo's butterfly collar this was definitely pre-1980.

Did Jardine ever make it to WWWF? Could he cut a promo?
He should have been given his run at the title even if just for three weeks.
