Not sure if this was mentioned but, when you get this interface, make sure to Uncheck the Exclusive Mode on Sound Settings -> Playback -> Rubix22 speakers -> Properties -> Advanced. Mine got this mode enabled by default, which makes it impossible to have the Speakers and Mic working at the same time, took me some time to figure it out.
I appreciate how you went into detail looking at latency performance and explored all the features with an unbiased approach. More reviewers should follow your lead on this. My only constructive criticism would be to trim the overall length of the video down, while still maintaining the important information and examples.
@@YHRS It looks like you've trimmed down the length of subsequent reviews since you did this one. Your videos have been helping me to choose a new interface. This Rubix was in the running until I realized that only one of the inputs can be specified as hi-z. Hope you consider looking at the Zoom UAC-2 at some point!
most best review audio interface i think. other reviewer doesn't show how audio just a review the case. and u review when works with the software how about the mic, recording, midi etc keep it man
Thanks Miner, I think this model will serve me well for a while to come. Now, if I ever strike it rich off of YT income, I may not be so philanthropic :D
Thanks for this.. incredible how you manage to be so articulate for so long and never lose my attention. I was/am interested in the midi part, and have enjoyed waiting for it as you describe in great detail, everything else. Thanks again for the time you put in, and I'll continue watching now, in wait of the midi part! :) I have a Rubix 24, so it is a little different.... thanks for the tips on sample rates and also the brutally honest take on how weird it is... Cheers.
I got a Rubix24 that I tried with my emg 57/66 on high-z. Just to add on to your video, I can keep the input knob at around 40% when playing extremely hard, so Id say this device has enough headroom for active pickups.
The question is: would you like to have a driver where you can adjust any and all settings by yourself (but some combinations may cause clicks and other unwanted effects) or rather a driver which still allows you to adjust the buffer size, but does it a safe manner, so it works without hitchs no matter what? Maybe that was the reason Roland did it this way. Anyway, thanks for the useful hands-on review...
16:35 Mark - I don't know if has already been expanded upon, but you can use the “USB buffer” setting to change the size of the audio buffer. Increasing the size makes data transfer more stable (i.e. - 'stability'), but has the disadvantage of delaying the sound (i.e. - “latency”). So... 1) a value of '7' would mean that there would be higher 'stability' but higher 'latency' in the audio buffer 2) a value of '1' would mean that there would be lower 'stability' but lower 'latency' in the audio buffer The above is covered on pagers 16 and 17 of the "Rubix 22/24/44 Reference Manual" IMHO...if your USB bus support USB v2 or v3...you could probably expect decent results with "USB Streaming Mode" set to something less than '4'.
Good review! However one thing that is always missing is the headphone output impedance. What headphones are you using and what ohm do they have? Is the level good or to low? Asking since I want to buy 250ohm headphones and use with some kind of audio interface at this price point. BR
I'm using Sennheiser HD380, which are 56 Ohms I believe. Headphone output level was adequate, comparable to the other 2x2 interfaces that I've played with.
Thanks for showing how it works. Learned how to use my unit. :) (Manuals: who need's those when you have TH-cam and Pro's like you showing how it's done.)
Other than the super lack luster control panel it seems to run pretty well at an acceptable latency. I had to panic buy because my Scarlett 4i4 literally died like 2 hours ago and when I saw one reviewer complain about the control panel and drivers I got worried.
It was definitely a solid interface for me while I had it (maybe about 3 years). I'm definitely not crazy about how they did the buffer size settings, but it was always robust and dependable!
Question - I recently bought a Rubix 22 on the strength of this review and really am enjoying it so far, so thank you for that! Would there be any benefit to powering this thing through 5v DC instead of USB? Would there be any input headroom or output/headphone power benefit?
So glad you're enjoying it! You know, I've always heard that bus power would lower headroom of the preamps (I've even repeated it a few times myself). But I really don't know for sure whether using an auxiliary power supply would actually affect headroom. If I had a dual-power interface on hand, I'd test that out.
Have you figured out how to get rid of the wine in the background? I can hear it on the recording and a little bit live. I'm using a Roland UA 101, it also does 24/192 with a 40 bit DAC. I've had to disable high speed usb streaming which seems to improve the signal
Stereo direct monitor is supposed to be a great feature, I miss it so much in my UR22 mkII. But I'm curious about little thing: you have a guitar connected to input 1, and the sound comes from right channel in stereo monitor mode (timecode is 25:20). Is it misrouting on your side or Rubix actually works like that? I think it's kind of illogical because input 1 should represent left channel. Anyway thank you for a very detailed review especially showing ASIO control panel!
Hey thanks so much! I've got 2 different insert cables that I use to send output from an interface to my recorder. 1 of them has the tip connected to the red 1/4" plug, one of them has the ring connected to the red 1/4" plug. Sometimes I get them mixed up, so L and R get swapped around when I record output from the interface. It drives me nuts sometimes!
Great review. Nice work and thank you. Im chasing the flatest sound as it seems the d-pre's on the steinberg, midas on the behringers etc. Seem to enhance sound rather then giving you what you put in.(might explain the not so wow factor in the results when recording with the rubix) Its the rubix or the steinberg for me i think. The later being cheaper, better bundled software but no ground lift and enhanced pre's. Your reviewed has helped especially that nobody really seems to want to talk about roland interfaces past presentation.
Thanks so much! I've found the preamps on all of the interfaces in this price range to be nice and flat. The Steinberg's preamps were pretty hot, but still flat. The differences in preamps in this price range are very minimal, they're all neck-and-neck and I don't think you'll be disappointed by whichever one you choose.
While I haven't used a 3rd gen 2i2, the main difference I noticed between the Roland and Focusrite preamps were that the Roland was more flat while the Scarlett had a little tiny bit of a presence peak in the preamp. The 3rd gen Scarlett range has the "Air" feature that'll make this presence peak more pronounced.
The UR12 is a little more basic than the Rubix 22. The UR12 has 1 XLR input and 1 instrument input, while the Rubix 22 (and Steinberg UR22, Presonus AudioBox 22, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2) has 2 XLR combo inputs that allow 2 XLR or 1/4" TRS line inputs and a single instrument input. So it's not quite apples-to-apples comparing a 1x2 interface with a 2x2 interface.
can you please tell me what brand and model those lil purple uv lights are in the back, on the desk, you have there? thanks. Im sure I will be getting the Rubix 24 for both myself and my father... I think he will love this! Roland makes good stuff.
Oh sure: I'm using Phillips Hue "White and Color Ambiance" bulbs, along with the required Hue Bridge Wi-Fi. They're not cheap, but they're pretty great. A few other brands are starting to release cheaper RGB LED bulbs, so keep an eye out!
Greetings. I was waiting to long time for Roland's new series. But now, when I look at the card features, I do not see much advantage over paper according to the Capture series (Quad-Capture has Auto-Sens feature, so I guess this card do not have it. I am currently using the Roland Duo-Capture Ex for electric guitar and I am not satisfied, I do not get a clear enough signal. The already dirty signal becomes annoying when I add a distortion (I am using Jackson SDX MN, DAW: Ableton Live 9 and Plugin: Amplitube 4). I think Quad-Capture is better on this, but I have not had a chance to try it. If I go to the Rubix series, would this be the solution? If so, which one should I take Quad-Capture equivalently (input / output numbers are not important, only one Hi-Z input is sufficient, important signal is clean, sound quality). Or should I buy Quad-Capture even if it's old? Thank you,
Unfortunately, the line outputs there are "impedance balanced", not fully symmetrical. But, it sounds good, pretty flat in my ear. I wonder is this supported 88200 and 176400 sample rate? In any case, thanks for the review ) ... Now I know - 176400 and 88200 unfortunately are not supported Ie, you can not listen to DSD without conversion.
So far I've kept them for a while, and eventually I sell them on Reverb or give them to friends in need. Every once in a while, I find one that I like enough to keep :)
Very good question! I havent had the privilege of using an Audient yet, but I hear great things about them. As far as I understand, their converters and preamps are excellent. I hope to get my hands on one someday so I can answer with more facts and experience rather than word of mouth and marketing materials.
Hi! Great review. Can I ask if the drivers are multiclient? For example, can I use my DAW and tab out to another app (youtube, twitch, etc) ? Some devices will 'lock' the sound to the DAW so you wont get sound from youtube. Thanks again for the review, there really isn't many people covering this box.
Hey friend! Loved this video. I have a umc204hd right now and wondering if this would be an upgrade for me for iOS stuff. How would you compare the hi-z performance between the two?
Although I haven't used the UMC204HD myself, I've used its little brother the UMC22 several times. Honestly, those Midas preamps are pretty great for the price. I'm not sure that you're going to see a measurable jump in quality with the Rubix 22 from the UMC204HD. If you're happy with the UMC, I'd say stick with it. But if you're looking for something new and shiny, the Rubix is a solid interface (with a kind of annoying ASIO control panel).
Do you know how this compares to the old Roland UA55 Quad Capture? I'm in the market for one of these units, and that Quad Capture seems to have some great features like clear VU level indication and Auto-Sens, but it looks like that unit is not available anymore. What is a good replacement for that at the moment? Thanks! Enjoyed your video.
As far as I understand, the Rubix line was a replacement for the older Capture line. It looks like they discontinued the Capture series at about the same time that they introduced the Rubix series. I agree, that auto-set feature was great (and I use that feature all of the time on my RME interface) and I'm sad to see that they didn't carry it forward to the Rubix.
I just got one today. I'm very impressed with it. I'm a PC user, and I've had such terrible problems with Focusrite that there's no way I'll sink money into Gen 2 of units that I know had poorly programmed drivers in Gen 1. I just had to replace yet another manufacturer's £120 interface with drivers that hit such insanely high latency spikes that my i7-7700k system was deemed unable of playing real-time audio by LatencyMon: an issue with wdf01000.sys and tcpip.sys which has plagued other users too. I was very pleased to see how much better this Rubix box is, and my issues are gone. I don't understand what's happened to Roland's PR team for the Rubix models though! Where are the reviews? Where is the promotion?
I had similar problems with an i7-4700 on a Z97 board from Gigabyte. I've since upgraded, but I swear that motherboard was grouchy about getting along with hardware. It hated my video card, which made audio system performance suffer greatly. As soon as I moved away from that board, my audio performance has been stellar and stable. And I totally agree, why isn't the Rubix line splashed all over every avenue of gear advertisement space? It's a good, solid option and a great competitor in its price range.
I did keep this interface for a couple of years and I thought that it stood up very well against all of the others that I've tried. It has a very complete feature set (except dual hi-Z inputs) and it always performed very well in whatever I asked it to do. I sold it off just because I had a whole stack of 2x2 interfaces laying around the studio and I don't have a need for a 2x2 in my current setup.
[sorry, I write bad because I'm Italian ], please I have a question: Which audio interface is better between these two? - motu 2408 mk2 (2003) or - Behringer umc 404 HD (2014 )
_______Thank you ps. for use in Home Studio, for do: - Mix - Producer in the box (plugin synth ... ableton) - "home" Mastering - Send/Return , out from Daw and re-input in Daw - also for recording some times: guitar / bass / mic condensator
Hello! I’ve been looking at a few audio interfaces and i’ve narrowed it down to the rubix24, steinberg 22 Ur mkii, or the behringer umc204hd. I know you have experience with different versions for both the rubix and behringer, but any recommendations? I use a windows laptop too (just for reference). Thanks!
I think that it'll come down to how many inputs and outputs you need for your workflow. The preamp quality of all of these interfaces is really close (subtly different, but they're all quite good). The converters are all quite good. Drivers, stability and speed are all very good as well. So mainly it'll come down to your budget and whether or not you need 4 outputs (Rubix24 and UMC204HD) rather than 2 (UR22mkII, 2i2). Honestly, I don't think that you can lose no matter what you choose in this price range. There is always the risk of incompatibility but I've had very good luck with all of these interfaces with Windows 10.
HELP! I got Roland Rubix24 today and i installed it. Everything seems to be working, i can hear input and output sound but i have the problem with playing tracks. Basically, while recording, i can't play any track in the background. For example, i put the track in audacity, fl studio, cubase and start recording, but the track doesn't play. I also tried to play track from youtube while recording and still the same. Please help.
This is always a challenge with ASIO drivers. Technically, ASIO has been able to share the audio system between applications for many years now. But not every driver developer has implemented that ability. I'll give it a try with the Rubix and see if it works for me. I honestly can't remember if that actually works with the Rubix drivers.
Hi, thanks a lot for this review, it was the right thing I was looking for because I'm a pretty happy user of the QuadCapture, but it lacks of a selectable/separate output for phones and the Rubix 24 (the bigger brother of the 22) has exactly what I'm missing. Drivers are kind of weird as you've pointed out, but so far still looks like a good and robust solution. Just a kind of OT question: which Reaper theme are you using here? It looks clean and nice. Thanks again!
Hey, so glad that you got some use out of the review! If the bigger brothers perform as well as the baby of the family, then I think it's a great choice for a home studio. The Reaper theme that I'm using is from the Reaper Stash here: stash.reaper.fm/theme/1512/Janne2015_Compact_v101-SSL-ReFocused-Analoge.ReaperThemeZip
Hi there! I have an important question: which is for you the most stable audio interface in the low price range? I mean un der 200 USD. Thank you for the great videos.
Now that I've used the 2i2, UR22mkII, Rubix 22, and UMC404HD, they've all been great. I haven't had stability issues with any of them with Windows 10 Pro. They're all pretty fast, stable, and sound good.
Hi there, I'm currently looking for an interface for iPad mini for travel/portability. (I currently use a Focusrite Pro Saffire 24 with Macbook at home - its firewire so a no go). I'm look for a robust, portable unit like the Roland or Scarlett series that powers itself by USB / equiv. I only need 2 ins but am really trying to find the best mic preamp (and best latency/buffer control) as am a vocalist. I read somewhere that the mic preamps on the Roland wernt as good as some others Focusrite Claret for example but these units need extra power. I dont mind going up a few quid and investing a bit but only upto the 300 mark maybe. Would be really interested in your opinion! Thanks a million for sharing your time making these vids. Maria
10 or 15 years ago, the UX2 was a really great interface. But interfaces have come a long ways since then, and the Rubix is a really solid modern interface. It doesn't come bundled with fun software like the UX2 did, but it has fast drivers, solid preamps, and it works great.
The advantage that the UMC404HD has is twice the inputs and outputs for a lower price than the Audiobox or the Rubix. On paper at least, there isn't a huge difference between all of those $150 2x2 interfaces like the Rubix, Audiobox, UR22, 2i2, etc. I think that any of those would be a capable interface for a home studio. And the 404HD would be good for slightly "bigger" applications like a 4-mic drum recording setup or recording multiple microphones at the same time.
Nice review. For us guys that like running the latest build of windows you should do a video on which interfaces work with windows 10 fall creators update. I can already tell you the 2i2s dont
I'll see what all interfaces I can get my hands on. My Behringer UMC22 is not happy with the latest updates either. It works, but not at full potential.
Do you think this unit has good headphone out? Compared to UR22 which is said to have very bad headphone amp (low volume). Do you think this Roland can drive less sensitive headphones?
I didn't do a direct comparison between the UR22 and the Rubix22 headphone outputs while I had them both here. I did notice that the UR22mkII headphone output was a little weak, but not terrible. But I haven't noticed the Rubix22 having a very low output. If I get a chance in the next couple of days, I'll crank some music through the Rubix and see how my HD280 headphones do with it.
Many people are anal about headphone outs in this small USB interfaces, but the reality of it is even the best ones need external headphone amp to drive less sensitive headphones, because at the end it's just powered from USB. If you happen to review some other interfaces, don't forget to review headphone out loudness ;) Anyway, thanks for your reviews, they are really helpful and I appreciate them, keep it up! :)
Hi, yesterday i bought the Roland Rubix44 and I've been trying to install it, but a problem keeps occuring. I use Windows 7 on my pc. It intalls properly but it doesn't show it at the Playback Device. Is there something i must do through the Roland Rubix Control Panel?
Hmmm, I don't recall anything in the control panel that would affect whether the device is seen by Windows. I'd make sure that everything is connected properly and that the USB cable is in good shape (try swapping out another USB cable maybe?).
Well, dang. I'd give it another go...uninstall the drivers, reboot, re-install drivers. See if it shows up in Device Manager, probably under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Maybe even check for "unknown device" to see if the hardware is connected but the drivers aren't working. Roland's website says that it's compatible with Win7, so it should be good to go. Could be a defective unit? Hopefully not!
I don't have the unit, so I can't test this out. Does the Windows Sound control panel change the ASIO sample rate? On the Roland support page for the drivers is this info. Important Notes for All Drivers * Set all following sample rates to the same value. Operation might not be correct if different. The sample rate that when you go to the "Sound" control panel, go to the [ Recording ] tab, choose [ Line Roland Rubix** ], and click the [ Properties ] button is shown on the [ Advanced ] tab of the "Line Properties" dialog box that appears The sample rate that when you go to the "Sound" control panel, go to the [ Playback ] tab, choose [ Speakers Roland Rubix** ], and click the [ Properties ] button is shown on the [ Advanced ] tab of the "Speakers Properties" dialog box that appears The sample rate for the ASIO application (if you're using the ASIO application)
I've never had issues using different sample rates between Windows sound and my DAW. Some devices do make some clicking/popping noises as they switch sample rates back and forth, some devices might mute output altogether when switching. I could see how that might cause some issues for some interfaces or computers though. But come to think of it, I have Windows set to 48kHz and I'm always recording at either 44.1 or 48k, maybe if I worked at other sample rates I'd see issues.
If the backing track is playing in your DAW, then you'll hear it through your headphones/speakers as it plays. Just like I did in the video with all of the backing tracks that I recorded...as long as the Rubix is set as your output device in your DAW, you'll hear all of your backing tracks any time you press play in your DAW.
Regardless of the year restarting a computer after installing new things is always the best idea whether or not the thing you installed suggests you should. You're literally programming something into the computer and when it boots up afterwards it orgranizes everything where it should go. This is why defragmenting a hard drive regularly is also important. Ever have issues with your daw and or any other program and it won't work unless you reboot the computer? Same thing. The computer says I'm unorganized and can't do whatever your asking me to do until I get a breath of fresh air. Treat your tools well and they'll return the favor. Patience is an amazing thing when it comes to electronics.
Mostly the reboot after installing applications is so that Windows can complete operations on files that were in use at the time of install. A reboot releases the hold on those files so they can be deleted/added/copied. But with ASIO drivers, the device can release the driver so they're not in use. So companies like RME no longer require a reboot to apply driver updates. I just wish more companies would follow suit and stop putting that requirement in their install packages.
The latency for that purpose would be the same as it is for recording. I was pleased with the latency of this interface, so it should be well suited for live performance as well!
Depending on your ASIO buffer settings, you can get some nice low latency that'd be great for amp sims. How low of latency you can get depends on how small of an ASIO buffer your computer can tolerate.
Wondering how this Rubix22 compares to focusrite solo in terms of DI guitar sound.. i find Scarlett Solo kinda muddy honestly even tho i have BareKnucle pickups
I thought that the DI sounded good on bass at least, although I haven't tried it on guitar. Is your Scarlett one of the 1st gen or 2nd gen ones? They made some improvements to the DI on the 2nd gen.
Hi, thanks! There isn't a blend between the direct monitor and the playback, unfortunately. The good news is that the latency was low enough that I didn't need to direct monitor so I could control my playback blend in my DAW and monitor through software.
Good Morning. I just bought this product (rubix22) and at the moment I can not reproduce any sound. When starting the pc, you hear the melody of windows (only for a channel), and from there it still does not work, even though I have reinstalled everything several times. My PC: HP cpu: intel 4440 3.1 gz 8 G. ram windows 10 home edition v.1709
Yikes, that doesn't sound good! It sounds like you've done some troubleshooting so far...I think it's time to contact Roland support and see if they can help you determine if it's a defective unit or if there's some other factor preventing it from working. Luckily for me, it was a pretty painless process to get it installed and running. Best of luck getting it sorted!
I'm using one from Janne called something along the lines of Janne 2015 Compact SSL Analog. It's still up on the Reaper Stash. I keep coming back to this theme, I really like it.
I still haven't used one, but I'm very interesting in trying one out. I'll admit that I'm skeptical about them, but that's not based on actual experience. One of these days, I'll grab one and try it out.
The output is ample for both the speaker out and the headphone out. I probably didn't normalize or otherwise adjust the recorded volume when editing the video.
I'd never heard of these before you mentioned them. It looks interesting, but I don't see any available at retailers in the US. I'll keep an eye out and I'd love to give one a try if I find one for sale.
Unfortunately, I can't answer that. I haven't used a Quad Capture myself. I came really close to buying one when I was shopping though, they have a great feature set. But as far as sound quality, I don't know. The Quad Capture does offer more inputs and outputs though.
Please your home recording Studio i beg you guys can answer my comment! because i saw some reviews about Rubix24 , it's about the high pitching. is that problem solved ?
High pitching? Is that where it emits a high-pitched noise/squeal? I haven't had that happen on my Rubix22 at all. Last time that happened to me it was with a MOTU interface, and that turned out to be a hardware incompatibility with my motherboard.
The driver setting are completely nuts !!! What were they thinking ??? I kind of understand that the USB settings are due to USB 2 bandwidth, but at least make it somewhat explainable. Rather disappointed at Roland here. Also weirdly enough, latency is LOWER at 192 than at 48 kHz ! I wish you did a round trip measurement of the signal/noise and distortion with RMAA.
LOL right? I forgot to illustrate the latency differences towards the end there. Good suggestion on the round-trip measurement. I'll have to remember that for next time!
Not sure if this was mentioned but, when you get this interface, make sure to Uncheck the Exclusive Mode on Sound Settings -> Playback -> Rubix22 speakers -> Properties -> Advanced.
Mine got this mode enabled by default, which makes it impossible to have the Speakers and Mic working at the same time, took me some time to figure it out.
man, you should really put timestamps in a 52min long video
I appreciate how you went into detail looking at latency performance and explored all the features with an unbiased approach. More reviewers should follow your lead on this. My only constructive criticism would be to trim the overall length of the video down, while still maintaining the important information and examples.
I agree, this one ran way too long. But I just got carried away because I liked the interface so much :)
@@YHRS It looks like you've trimmed down the length of subsequent reviews since you did this one. Your videos have been helping me to choose a new interface. most best review audio interface i think.

You're a great guy Tad, it's really cool you're putting the $$$ you get from these vids right back into 'em by buying gear to review...
Thanks Miner, I think this model will serve me well for a while to come. Now, if I ever strike it rich off of YT income, I may not be so philanthropic :D
Thanks - great unbiased review! I bought one because of your honesty and objectivity.
Hey that's great to hear! It's a solid interface, I was definitely impressed by it
Hey mate, very nice unboxing/review. Thanks
Thanks man!
Thanks for this.. incredible how you manage to be so articulate for so long and never lose my attention. Grazie per la recensione, con un budget limitato ora sono più tranquillo. E complimenti per la foto di David sullo sfondo
Thanks! It's good to hear from another Bowie fan :)
I got a Rubix24 that I tried with my emg 57/66 on high-z. Just to add on to your video, I can keep the input knob at around 40% when playing extremely hard, so Id say this device has enough headroom for active pickups.
That's good to know, thanks!
which daw u using?
The question is: would you like to have a driver where you can adjust any and all settings by yourself (but some combinations may cause clicks and other unwanted effects) or rather a driver which still allows you to adjust the buffer size, but does it a safe manner, so it works without hitchs no matter what? This Is a documentary not a Review! Regards my friend great job, this interface Is aweson!

So...
1) a value of '7' would mean that there would be higher 'stability' but higher 'latency' in the audio buffer
2) a value of '1' would mean that there would be lower 'stability' but lower 'latency' in the audio buffer
The above is covered on pagers 16 and 17 of the "Rubix 22/24/44 Reference Manual"
IMHO...if your USB bus support USB v2 or v3...you could probably expect decent results with "USB Streaming Mode" set to something less than '4'.
Thanks for your reply. However I have realized that an additional amp is more or less always required for usb audio Interface and high ohm headphones.
Thanks for showing how it works. Learned how to use my unit. :)

It was definitely a solid interface for me while I had it (maybe about 3 years). I'm definitely not crazy about how they did the buffer size settings, but it was always robust and dependable!
that ground loop function is quite convenient.

Appreciate your making these vids! well done, simple, honest and pretty objective.
It drives me nuts sometimes!
great video thank. Is loopback possible with the Rubix22 ?
I have a RUBIX 22 by ROLAND!!! is amazing!!! 🔥
Hai how is roland capture ex? Is it good as scarlett 2i2?
Could you comapare the preamps between roland rubix and scarlett 3rd gen? And please MTBF
Hello, I was thinking about either buying this or Steinberg UR12. Which one do you think is better? Thanks
@@YHRS Thanks! Now I can get some . I really appreciate that!
In any case, thanks for the review )
...
Now I know - 176400 and 88200 unfortunately are not supported Ie, you can not listen to DSD without conversion.
Can't say I'm too impressed with the single LED VU indicator :-( Wish it had more of a VU Meter indicator like the Roland Quad Capture had...
Sorry don't have time to watch all of this as it's a little long, could you tell me just if it has a loopback function? Thanks
This video was so good, thank you very much!
Nice review guy ! :)
Hey thanks!
Do you keep all these devices or return them to Amazon after the review?
So far I've kept them for a while, and eventually I sell them on Reverb or give them to friends in need. Every once in a while, I find one that I like enough to keep :)
Great video!!Can advise whether this Roland Rubix 24 is better or Audient Id4
Very good question! I havent had the privilege of using an Audient yet, but I hear great things about them. As far as I understand, their converters and preamps are excellent. I hope to get my hands on one someday so I can answer with more facts and experience rather than word of mouth and marketing materials.
Hi! Great review. Can I ask if the drivers are multiclient? For example, can I use my DAW and tab out to another app (youtube, twitch, etc) ? Some devices will 'lock' the sound to the DAW so you wont get sound from youtube.
Thanks again for the review, there really isn't many people covering this box.
In general, ASIO drivers don't like to share a device across applications. So I doubt that you'll be able to do that without some major workarounds.
Fair enough. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work!
I can't do it with the Roland Rubix 24 using ASIO and ableton. That's a bit of a bother but oh well.
Your Home Recording Studio thanks for the feedback bro. Love the content
So would you still recommend this unit after 2 years, how has it held up- do you still like it or have you found something better in the last 2 years.
Will this sound card be able to open 600om headphones?
[sorry, I write bad because I'm Italian ], please I have a question:
Which audio interface is better between these two?
- motu 2408 mk2 (2003)
or
- Behringer umc 404 HD (2014 )
_______Thank you
ps.
for use in Home Studio,
for do:
- Mix
- Producer in the box (plugin synth ... ableton)
- "home" Mastering
- Send/Return , out from Daw and re-input in Daw
- also for recording some times: guitar / bass / mic condensator
thank you
There is always the risk of incompatibility but I've had very good luck with all of these interfaces with Windows 10.
thanks so much!! This helped me narrow down my search
I have mixing desk and a fender rhodes piano mk1 what do you think the best way to integrate the desk is?
Meglio questa roland o scarlett 212?
I'm glad it has a headphone input
awesome review
How would I do a live feed to Facebook from a Allen and Heath QU16 to a MacBook or iPhone thru the Rubix22?
Maria
i love your video. Every litle thing well explained...
How you compare the Roland Rubix 22 with the Focusrite Clarett 2Pre USB?
Helpful, thanks. Few devices at this price point have MIDI.
Great, thanks! Yeah, Focusrite ditched the MIDI 5-pin on the 2i2 so it's good to see Roland and Steinberg include those on their 2x2 interfaces.
nice review, thanks my friend I need some help to decide about it Ur22/4i4/Rubix 24.
Would you buy this over a Line 6 UX2? I'm looking to switch to the Rubix 24 for the built-in compressor, currently having the UX2.
10 or 15 years ago, the UX2 was a really great interface. But interfaces have come a long ways since then, and the Rubix is a really solid modern interface. It doesn't come bundled with fun software like the UX2 did, but it has fast drivers, solid preamps, and it works great.
which one of the above mentioned interfaces has the best pre amp? can you please answer this..
Hello, say me please who best roland rubix24 or steinberg ur22mk2?
I never used a computer to record stuff but I have to get with the programme now, so any pointers would help.
Is it better than the Behringer UMC404HD and Presonus Audiobox 22vsl?
Great video!
Why do i have delay in my mic should i buy a new interface is my laptop broken because when i use the interface it works on my mac
I'd make sure that everything is connected properly and that the USB cable is in good shape (try swapping out another USB cable maybe?).
i try... nothing :'(
Important Notes for All Drivers
* Set all following sample rates to the same value. Operation might not be correct if different.
The sample rate that when you go to the "Sound" control panel, go to the [ Recording ] tab, choose [ Line Roland Rubix** ], and click the [ Properties ] button is shown on the [ Advanced ] tab of the "Line Properties" dialog box that appears
The sample rate that when you go to the "Sound" control panel, go to the [ Playback ] tab, choose [ Speakers Roland Rubix** ], and click the [ Properties ] button is shown on the [ Advanced ] tab of the "Speakers Properties" dialog box that appears
The sample rate for the ASIO application (if you're using the ASIO application)
I've never had issues using different sample rates between Windows sound and my DAW. Some devices do make some clicking/popping noises as they switch sample rates back and forth, some devices might mute output altogether when switching. I could see how that might cause some issues for some interfaces or computers though. But come to think of it, I have Windows set to 48kHz and I'm always recording at either 44.1 or 48k, maybe if I worked at other sample rates I'd see issues.
how would/could you use this to play over a backing track? would you have to use the second input? is there anyway to select the output?
If the backing track is playing in your DAW, then you'll hear it through your headphones/speakers as it plays. Just like I did in the video with all of the backing tracks that I recorded...as long as the Rubix is set as your output device in your DAW, you'll hear all of your backing tracks any time you press play in your DAW.
@@YHRS that's how I thought it would work, but I couldn't find out for sure. Thx for the reply
Can I use the Sennheiser HD650 (300 Ohm) on the Headphones?
Hello
how about latency for live performance passing trough a DAW?
grts
Kennet
The latency for that purpose would be the same as it is for recording. I was pleased with the latency of this interface, so it should be well suited for live performance as well!

ok, thx.

what theme do you use on your reaper?
Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD Audiophile 4x4, 24-Bit/192 kHz USB Audio/MIDI Interface with MIDAS Mic Preamplifiers
What you think about this interface
how it working with amp sims? is there monitor latency delay? if not it' s good
Depending on your ASIO buffer settings, you can get some nice low latency that'd be great for amp sims.
They made some improvements to the DI on the 2nd gen.
i hesitate .. ur22 mk2 or this one .. i need midi connectors and i want to put the soundcard after my soundcraft mixer
You need to change the samplerate of your PC, i have mine actually on 192000hz and it works flowww
which is the difference between rubix and duo capture ex??!
Is it compatible with Mavericks?
Hi, excellent review. I'm a newbie and I'm wondering if the headphone volume has a blend between input instruments and DAW playback?
Hi, thanks! There isn't a blend between the direct monitor and the playback, unfortunately. The good news is that the latency was low enough that I didn't need to direct monitor so I could control my playback blend in my DAW and monitor through software.
How does it compare to Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 ?
Have the Recordings been post processed?
No post processing in this video, just raw audio that was recorded on the spot.
Does it works with Pro Tools ?
Good Morning.
I just bought this product (rubix22) and at the moment I can not reproduce any sound.
When starting the pc, you hear the melody of windows (only for a channel), and from there it still does not work, even though I have reinstalled everything several times.
My PC:
HP
cpu: intel 4440 3.1 gz
8 G. ram
windows 10 home edition v.1709
Yikes, that doesn't sound good! It sounds like you've done some troubleshooting so far...I think it's time to contact Roland support and see if they can help you determine if it's a defective unit or if there's some other factor preventing it from working. Luckily for me, it was a pretty painless process to get it installed and running. Best of luck getting it sorted!
Cool mate!
I just bought this without researching, to record voice. I hope I made a good choice
I think it's a solid interface. I don't think you have anything to worry about, it should do the job capably.
Thanks man! I'm still getting used to it
How's it sound ? The preamps I mean, and what mic you use?
Hi what theme do you use on reaper
I'm using one from Janne called something along the lines of Janne 2015 Compact SSL Analog. It's still up on the Reaper Stash. I keep coming back to this theme, I really like it.
Thanks
how is it possible to have 48v for the mic if it's only powered by 5v USB ??
Good ol' Ohm's Law! They can alter the voltage by altering the current in the circuit.
@@YHRS oooh got it, thanks dude
What do you think a about the se electronics x1.
I still haven't used one, but I'm very interesting in trying one out. I'll admit that I'm skeptical about them, but that's not based on actual experience. One of these days, I'll grab one and try it out.
I hope you grab one :). there is no good review in English about this mic and it’s very popular!!
is the output really that low volume? or is it just the video
The output is ample for both the speaker out and the headphone out. I probably didn't normalize or otherwise adjust the recorded volume when editing the video.
Can you review or give your thoughts on Audio Probe SPARTAN A Tnx
I'd never heard of these before you mentioned them. It looks interesting, but I don't see any available at retailers in the US. I'll keep an eye out and I'd love to give one a try if I find one for sale.
@@YHRS tnx!
Is this better sounding then the quad capture?,
Unfortunately, I can't answer that.
Last time that happened to me it was with a MOTU interface, and that turned out to be a hardware incompatibility with my motherboard.
i appreciate you answer me. Already subcribed!
Can u suggest me that which interface I can buy? (UR22, Rubix) I can't really make the decision. pls give me some suggestion, thank you.
Soo, your gonna hate me but this or the Focusrite 2i2? Great thorough video btw, thanks man!
Nevermind, you answered that a couple minutes later, awesome.
Great, glad to be of service :) The 2i2 is fine with me, I just like the added features of the Rubix personally.
Ended up getting the rubix22. Newer than the 2i2 and has some added features like you said so I decided to give it a shot. Sounds great so far!
Im having phantom power issues. Roland didnt think it through.
No software included with it?
Comes with Ableton Lite
I AM WONDERING IF IT CAN CONNECT A IPHONE?
