    About 18 months ago I moved into an inherited house which my Grandad built in the 60's. There are 2 rooms downstairs plus a garage which I am slowly converting into my makerspace(s), so this is great inspiration, thanks man!

    For the 3D printer filament, you should have an air-tight container for moisture-sensitive filament, you may be surprised about the difference this makes on the quality of some prints. Loving the content recently and can't wait for the PC!

    ery nice, good video. and nice space.
    also I feel I see you issue tho, while you keep adding stuff, your placements and organising are rushed and everything is tagged on´s, not fully done-planned redone, if you get what im saying_? maby you have to many ideas, you just rush it in the end, like your seeing I have this , and how is that gonna work into my new plan, instead of just redo everything, like idk.
    but your space there, I cant see it all , but im seeing alot of other random thing placed there like garden tools ect taking up space, its not like you dont have space , it look like there a conflict of what belongs in that room and what could easy be stored elsewhere.
    if that was me I would need to redo the whole room, so much left on the table and it looks like you even have to skills to build more complicated stuff, ex overhead cabinets, yourself, and much more, lower tier stuff and all your stuff is on the floor plan, and your using your then item to store more item s ontop of that witch is standing on the floor, your walls mostly totally bare.
    I get your not made of money.
    but there's ways to do it , ex ikea hacking you done need to keep the ratio, ex is a cabinet is 45cm you can just cut off the debth and make it ex 30cm if thats what fits.
    you can also just vinyl the fronts and or add hard wood on top of the fronts , kinda cheating but look better in the end product.
    (buy used 2nd hand ikea items and upgrade-add to them or even pallets wood witch can sometime be had for free, some of them are even hard wood)
    and thinner MDF ex 0.6- 0.8 mm instead of more expensive 1.6 - 1.8cm as you cant see the thickness on the outside, and if you brace it good inside it wroks just as fine for ex cabinets.
    imo the less good looking plywood , the end product, vs MDF that it rather forgiving after its painted , vs plywood witch imo always looks cheap and ultra DIY after , no matter what you do.
    I dont wanna throw out alot of ex on what to build cause, idk what style you like, and how much of the space your willing to build on,
    maby this more is your style, idk, imo you should use 1 day, go into totally , maker space mode , scrape all the videos on TH-cam you can, and select you fav features of the top makers spaces, that say I want that, I can make that.
    then you can copy and or create you version of that , and all look the videos tough for inspirations and steal those ideas into a note program, when I do this for myself, I Screen shot from websites and videos, stuff I feel look nice are my style, and would fit my stuff, take just all of it , like way more then I need and then i sit there looking at it after and make my own puzzle out of it.
    and if I need to see you its made, or or this on variations of it I just re google-youtube that and look up versions of that style of coner of that space until I find what im looking for.
    and your skeleton of room dont need to be final either, you can build fake walls to should dampen and or alter the room , in wall cabinets, on wall cabinets, ceiling stuff like camera lights up there for video and light. the possibilities are many.
    you can even make a video and make your viewers gelid in on the process by showing ex of that your toughts are. cause text is harder to explain.
    this my 2 cents.

    • @camshand
      @camshand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the makeover.
      Yes it got how it was from simply adding more storage and stuff along the way until I realised I needed to do a big rearrangement.
      Since it is our Garage, and I don't have a backyard shed, the brooms and gardening tools are stored in it. But I'm hoping I can rearrange the placement so they can go near the storage shelves out of frame.
      I've got notes and Pinterest boards of future ideas but this video was an opportunity to get advice from my viewers, like you, to weigh in on some design or better layout options.
      Overhead shelving above the lasercutters and CNC is hard as the CNC machine actually raises double it's height so I can't have shelving running the entire width. Thinking I could however make a half wide overhead tub storage though.

    You could put the desk on sit stand legs so you can raise the printer and cutter up and access the stuff below from the top instead of the front or find a way to put them on a lowering system.

    Another great video by Cam! Loving where this channel is heading. If you want a cool way to organise parts bins check out the way Zack Freedman did his gridfinity (the first one, not the second version). He basically took a massive chest of parts bins and laser cut labels for them with custom 3D printed drawer fronts. Might not be what you’re going for but worth checking out.

  • @mitchellharmer9732
    @mitchellharmer9732 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Where you’re thinking of putting the filament you could do a “compactus” type of roller shelves. Would imagine it wouldn’t require as much structural reinforcing than the spice rack idea. Could even put an acrylic face on em to see what’s in each or seal individual “modules” for filaments you need to protect/humidity control.
    I checked out a mates new R&D shop and he was able to jag off gumtree a tile drawer cabinet that was used for displaying tiles. Much cheaper than getting some architecture plans draws if you’re chasing some large shallow draws.

    How about one of the 3D printed peg boards/shelves and drawer organisers? Heaps of space there. You also have so much vertical space there which definitely would lend itself to storage or similar!
