      @@gogledhol you'll get a warm welcome in both Orkney and Shetland. Personal recommendations would be to visit Shetland for Up Helly Aa, and Orkney for the Ba Game 😎 both extremely cool/exciting traditions.

    Great video although I'd like to point out there are things open after 5pm- the Chinese and Indian (x2) restaurants, Magnos restaurant, The Lerwick, Shetland and Grand and Queens hotel and the Steak house are open till 10-11 and the Fish and Chip shops are open till 9. Also there are 3 general shops and the pubs are open till 10pm (pubs are open till 1am when covid restrictions lift) and both the Co-Op and Tesco supermarkets are open till 10pm also.
    Shame you missed my boat when you were filming at the Museum!

    As a born and bred Shetlander, I always am wary of videos describing Shetland but really enjoyed your video. A few things I didn't quite agree with, and I think you were referring to the Mousa broch, but mostly a great video. It was lovely seeing clips from all over Shetland, not just Lerwick. And especially Northmavine where I have lived all my life. I was interested to hear that your ancestors came from Shetland, but couldn't make out the writing on the gravestones, or which graveyard they were in. The old circular graveyard in Hillswick, perhaps? Please come back to visit again.

    Love your content sir, as a 22 year old having lived here my whole life it was refreshing seeing your take on my home reminding me of how lucky I am! I've been conflicted on whether to stay here or move away for job opportunities like many folk my age across the islands, but hopefully with proposed £50,000 government grant I might be swayed to stay! Keep up the good work!

      I loved your video. I was born in Shetland, lived in Scalloway, Gulberwick Bay, went to school at Andersson High. We moved to New Orleans when I was young but we did went back on holiday every summer and moved back there for a bit when I was in high school. We are now back in New Orleans but I miss Shetland every day. PS…you forgot to mention how lovely it smells. I mean, it smells GREAT! I can still remember the smell of burning peat and sea salt and fields and harbour smells…

    I lived in Brae for a year 4 years ago, I feel like I've never been the same since leaving and I am looking to move back. Originally I missed the city and thought the isolation killed me, it turns out that cities are not my thing anymore and I love the fresh air and the warmth of the shetlanders. Honestly, it's my favourite place and I'm excited to return there. Great video but UHA isn't just the one, the last one is in march in the village of Brae ❤

    This is fascinating. We want to go thanks to Jimmy Perez. I do have questions seeing hoe these folks basically live on a rock surrounded by ocean. 1. Is it expensive since common sense says most things have to be imported by ship or airplane. 2. I see long winding asphalt roads. Where does the tar and gravel and machinery come from? 3. Everything appears electrified…..where does electricity come from for the inhabited islands. 4. You answered my question about beef. I assume in addition to raising sheep and goats there are cattle farmers there supplying beef. 5. Lumber to build things? I assume there is no Lowes or Home Depot so building materials are shipped in to small retailers? 6. Water? Where can you drill a well to find an aquifer in solid rock? I know my questions have nothing to do with touring the islands but more about how these hardy people have thrived. Thanks.

    Lerwick certainly looks like a stunning picturesque town to explore and those noodles with mussels look amazing; definitely somewhere to go for me cos I wanna explore different kinds of seafood! Are there ferries to Kirkwall on the Orkneys so I could spend half a day in each place? Would be a nice daytrip from Aberdeen, with the overnight ferries doubling as hotels!

    • @DBolt2008
      @DBolt2008 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah Aberdeen overnight to Lerwick direct one night and via Kirkwall on alternate nights. Arrives Kirkwall about midnight though so you can't do what you want. 1/2 a day each is not enough anyway. Could do a day in each with a hotel in Kirkwall but you really need longer to make it worthwhile for the cost

I have one observation, and a coupe questions for you. My observation is: If, while one is driving and looking out one window to see the sites, then when driving back and looking out the opposite window, one will see the same sites. Think about it. Now a few questions: Are there any pubs on the islands, and if there are, do they also close at 5? Also, if everything, including restaurants and pubs close at 5, what does one do about dinner? Thank you again for making these videos. I enjoy them immensely! It’s a windy place plus loads of sheep that contribute to soil erosion. They love eating grass. I’m sure there is also other factors such as early human inhabitants using up whatever woods existed at that time.
