What certifications do you have to have

I love your question. I’ll keep it simple but I’m always willing to go in-depth..
To become a mechanic at a dealership, shop or wherever it may be.. There’s different ways to begin and rise up, but they all share the similar beginnings.
You have two options: Trade school for an automotive program or you can work your way up starting by doing oil changes as a “Lube Tech”. Kinda like those Valvoline/Take 5 oil change places.
Then you just work your way up. In Dealerships, they have their own “classes” you take to achieve certain certifications/levels, so you can take on bigger more complex jobs.
In an independent shop, you’ll typically want to acquire what’s called your ASE’s (Automotive Society of Engineers).. Think of it as like passing an offical exam, but there’s about 10 categories you gotta pass in to become “Master Certified”. Like a black belt in mechanics

I worked for 6 months as a service advisor at a Dodge, Ram Jeep dealer. The wierd problems people came in with on their low mileage vehicles blew my mind. But I always buy Toyota, Honda & Subaru. The Stellantis stuff is total junk 😳

Nice video. Im 18 and im going to be taking the Dodge mopar cap automotive program at my college soon. I’ll be in the program for 2 years while also working in the dealership along side. Do you think I can become a master tech that way?

@@DaeCRG1 Nice dude, that’s whats up!!
I didn’t take the CAP program but have met/seen people that have… From my understanding they focus a lot primarily on the MOPAR products and their side of repair, component function and design?
Any education is a good step forward. You’ll be able to receive some great fundamental knowledge you need in order to be ahead of the game.
I’ve seen people become master techs with and without a formal education. It’s all in the individual… Are you willing to grind through and snatch all opportunities of personal growth? Are you willing to take up everything from the small gravy jobs to the days long challenging jobs?
Being a master tech takes Indefinitely a while for all. You can pass all the training classes and get to Level 3 / Master Tech (the new level name change for MOPAR training curriculum)…. But that doesn’t mean you ARE a “Master Tech” - if you catch my drift.
That takes time, experience on the job and lots of patience.
You should have no problem getting your way up there if you believe you can!

@@NorbCo Thank you man I appreciate it. How much would you say master technicians can make?

    • @NorbCo

@@DaeCRG1 A Master Tech can really vary... Are they salary, hourly or flat rate... Each state pays differently.
I've seen flat rate master tech's make anywhere between $30/hour all the way to $50+/hour... It depends on where you live, your years of experience, your certifications (ASE's, training levels, schooling, etc...).
That's also if you are just on one brand. I had a mentor who was maxxed out trainings in two manufactures and was on his way to third. Last I heard he was making $50+/flat rate hour. He also turned an average MINIMUM of 55 hours/week. Some mad serious artistry and skill.

You must work in the used car department of the dealership because you worked on more non Dodge products than stellantis
