It is a lot. The wool is completely row and very dirty. I had to wash and clean them. Comb them.. Is the drum carder helps to clean the wool? Thanks
Hi from Baltimore, Maryland. I have processed my own raw wools. You want to clean your fiber before drum carding it. There are several great videos on You Tube about wool processing. I recommend Mary Egbert of Camaj Fibers. She's a professional & another great teacher. I also knit & spin. I'm just learning felting. Enjoy fibering.❤
If you hang on to the fiber as it’s going into the licker it will spin around it. As soon as you lay down the fiber let it go. Otherwise it will not go around the big drum.
This will vary on your fiber prep and the model of drum carder itself. It is ok to "gate" the fiber a bit if you do not want it all to feed on so quickly. Some drum carders will grab on to the fiber, especially if it is compressed/compact like commercially combed top. Play with the fiber you have and the drum carder you have to experiment with the effects you are wanting when carding.
