I found a Wikipedia article that says this 2012 excursion may well be the last time it will ever be fired up and run. It is now on display in the roundhouse at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Great video, thanks for making and sharing, it really captures the sound and visceral feel of an age of trains that was for over a century.

My Dad, Jack Pumple, used a similar engine 3524 , during 1951 in Montreal. He was based in Montreal yards, Turcotte. Engine now in Trenton Ontario museum, 5 miles from our cottage. I visit weekly when there. It sits along main line CN & CP.Priceless.Rich Pumple

It's especially appreciated by a Canadian who in his high school summer vacations worked in a roundhouse full of steam power during the last three years of steam in western Canada. Not on the CNR but the CPR in Edmonton had quite a few Pacifics of similar size and shape to 3254 (tapered boilers) and coal burners too. A number of those are also preserved in the U.S., for which we should be very grateful. If they weren't preserved there they would not exist. There were a number of American rail fans who went to a lot of trouble and expense to capture on film the last years of steam in Canada. Of course, it was a labor of love and those films are a treasure now for all of us.
My father worked for Canadian National, working his way up to Locomotive Foreman, and then took an early retirement after 50 years service. When asked about his memories of steam he would reply, "Forty below and keeping them running."

3254 needs some work mostly a major overhaul of maintenance. They hope to have new steam engine up and working this year. Funding to overhaul 54 may not be there yet.
The clip at 10:03 made me smile like a big dumb idiot, because her whistle really sounded like it did in the 80s there, which is when I think it sounded the best, though I'm just nostalgic for the sound, as I've been hearing it since I was a kid.

Steamtown NHS is not currently operating mainline steam locomotives. We are in the process of a major maintenance and rebuild of our locomotive power fleet. We are currently focusing our attention on our 1929 Baldwin Locomotive Works #26, an 0-6-0 switcher. BLW #26 will be the motive power for our "Scranton Limited" short train rides. This locomotive may also see duty as motive power for an occasional special excursion on a portion of the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad mainline to Carbondale. The next steam locomotive to return to service is expected to be our Boston and Maine #3713, a Lima-built 4-6-2 Pacific-type Superpower locomotive with oversized firebox and superheaters that are able to pull and heat a 14-car passenger train at track speed! This 1937 American-built locomotive is in our collection and being restored in partnership with the Lackawanna and Wyoming Valley Railway Historical Society. When completed, the locomotive will replace our Canadian National #3254 2-8-2 Mikado-type locomotive for mainline excursion power. Following completion of these projects, we plan next to repair and restore 1923 Canadian Pacific #2317 to operating condition. CP #2317 will be used for motive power on our mainline excursions. - SteamTown Website
Was there this past winter, and it's doubtful she'll ever run again thanks to a cracked boiler. Bit of a costly fix. Right now they are concentrating on B&M 3217, and once she's done they'll shift focus to CPR 2317.

You know, CN No. 3254 maybe older and lighter, and the boiler pressure is not as high as CP No. 2317, but she's much more powerful!
