In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and vanilla; beat until well combined. Add egg whites 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk to butter mixture, beating on low speed after each addition just until combined. Spread batter into the prepared pan(s). 3 Bake for 20 to 25 minutes for 9-inch pans, 30 to 35 minutes for 8-inch pans or 13x9-inch pan, or until a wooden toothpick inserted near centers comes out clean. Hitting any person at all unless they are beating you is not okay in law- it is called assault. If a woman or man is physically attacking you then you are allowed to use enough force to stop them. He has said many stupid things. But if you put this one in context, he isn't actually claiming slavery was a choice. You're just misrepresenting him. I'm not entirely are what he was trying to say. But it's not that slavery was a choice. Seems far more likely that he is taking a stab at the democrats as the party of slavers. He is saying that by black people voting for the dems after slavery was made illegal, they are essentially choosing to be controlled by those same slave owners. Years ago I pulled a can of tuna out of the cabinet to make a tuna fish sandwich. It happened to be the "Chicken of the Sea" brand. As I'm going to open it up, my mom stops me and tells me not to open it; that she needed to return it because she got the wrong kind. I asked why, and she said with a straight face "because it's chicken tuna". I stood frozen, so perplexed by the statement. I then had to explain(after laughing uncontrollably for several minutes to her confusion) that there was no such thing as "chicken tuna", the meaning of the brand name, etc. I still laugh to this day whenever I think of it hah. (for the record, she had a crazy rough life being brought up with limited education... she's very "street smart", but def not "book smart")
People feel the need to get knowledge from anywhere, regardless of if said knowledge is real, and these "celebs" (they're not celebrities, they didn't cure diseases or fight forest fires) , are put on pedestals by these people.
Most humans, not just celebs, form opinions on things they are not experts on or even familiar with. A few smart people know to keep such opinions to themselves. Celebs get inteviewed a lot and that's why you hear their opinions more. You don't have to "listen" to anybody. Take what interests you and trash the rest...
With the idea of gender equality, the people complaining about that comment from him are the actual sexist folk, since it seems they want to hold up the traditional gender roles, in which the woman is seen as weak and incapable and the men as being aggressive and violent. When in reality there are many aggressive and even outright violent women too out there, to which quite a few men doesn't know how to deal with it, like in many cases of domestic violence where the man is the victim. But society seems not to care about that, since we as society seem to prefer to only focus on the issues women have Which shows women are not oppressed, and it is just that sexist view that creates the disempowering mentality. So, in a sense, Connery is actually empowering and promoting gender equality!

The thing I don't quite understand about the whole gender equality thing is the argument that men and women are "equal". People don't bat an eyelid when a woman hits a man, or in some cases, find it funny, but if the roles are reversed, it's a different story. Why? Surely if women demand the right to be treated exactly like men then they forfeit the right to be offended by a man hitting a woman anymore than if a woman hits a man... Having said that, I don't condone unnecessary violence towards women.

4 egg whites
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

1 1/3 cups buttermilk or sour milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and vanilla; beat until well combined. Add egg whites 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk to butter mixture, beating on low speed after each addition just until combined. Spread batter into the prepared pan(s).

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes for 9-inch pans, 30 to 35 minutes for 8-inch pans or 13x9-inch pan, or until a wooden toothpick inserted near centers comes out clean. Cool cake layers in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes. Remove cake layers from pans. Cool thoroughly on racks. Or, place 13x9x2-inch cake in pan on a wire rack; cool thoroughly. Frost with desired frosting.

With the idea of gender equality, the people complaining about that comment from him are the actual sexist folk, since it seems they want to hold up the traditional gender roles, in which the woman is seen as weak and incapable and the men as being aggressive and violent. When in reality there are many aggressive and even outright violent women too out there, to which quite a few men doesn't know how to deal with it, like in many cases of domestic violence where the man is the victim. But society seems not to care about that, since we as society seem to prefer to only focus on the issues women have Which shows women are not oppressed, and it is just that sexist view that creates the disempowering mentality. So, in a sense, Connery is actually empowering and promoting gender equality!
I totally agree with you. Everyone is preaching equality, but then people get mad when a man lays their hand on a woman. We're all humans; we just have different sex organs and we produce different chemicals. Not saying it's right to go home and beat your wife up, likewise for a wife to go home and beat their husband up, but if my spouse were to try and physically abuse me, I would hit her back, no doubt.

I'm a girl and even I agree on what Sean Connery said. It's not stupid, he has a point and he made it clear that hitting women is allowed under the right circumstances. People should start getting with the program that both men and women should be viewed equally. The thing I don't quite understand about the whole gender equality thing is the argument that men and women are "equal". People don't bat an eyelid when a woman hits a man, or in some cases, find it funny, but if the roles are reversed, it's a different story. Why? Surely if women demand the right to be treated exactly like men then they forfeit the right to be offended by a man hitting a woman anymore than if a woman hits a man... Having said that, I don't condone unnecessary violence towards women.
