They gender-swapped Cosmo in this, which I didn't mind and it actually makes sense because Cosmo is based on/inspired by the real life Soviet space dog Laika, who was a female dog.

This was SO good!! Such humor, quirkiness, and heart....so, you know, typical GOTG. 😊 Madison, you were definitely not the only one tearing up at the end. So touching. Also, we have met Cosmo before, very briefly in the end credits scene of the first GOTG movie. Great reactions from you two, as always!
To back up Christian, Santa *is* in the Marvel comics! In some iterations, he's a manifestation of generosity around the holidays formed magically by a mixture of beliefs in different Santa-like stories and their desires for goodwill. In others, he's explicitly an Omega-Level mutant (as in, Cerebro detects him as "one of the strongest mutants ever detected"). And then there are the versions of him in Deadpool comics, where the elves lead a revolt, the North Pole gets shut down, Santa gets depressed, and Deadpool gets hired by some kids to murder Santa for not delivering presents on Christmas anymore.
Comics are weird, man 😂
Oh, and Santa's elves are canonically descendants of the Light Elves from Alfheim, i.e. the Norse realm of elves, like the one we saw in She-Hulk.

We actually saw Cosmo as a part of The Collectors collection during the same post-credit scene in Thor: Dark World where we first see Howard the Duck.
that wasnt in thor the dark world, howard the duck was shown in the first guardians of the galaxy end credits.

Cosmo is one of the essential characters in the GotG comics! I'm glad they didn't leave him (her?) out!
My eyes got blurry watching the Yondu parts, too. As campy as this way, it fit the positive feelings both the movies and Christmas Holiday bring to our lives.

In the comics, Cosmo was male, the MCU decided to honor Laika, the first dog in space, and made Cosmo female.

We’re gonna lose ant man and half the guardians in a span of 3 months.
Looking at this special it got me to think that Drax and Mantis both will die in the next Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 movie. Drax is going to die because when Marvel first fired Gunn Dave Bautista said he didn't want to work for Marvel until they rehire Gunn and I think he will follow Gunn to DC and I think Pom Klementieff will join them at DC. I think this movie is to help give weight to their death in the movie.
This is a good one for the Christmas-averse such as I - like Nightmare Before Christmas, the focus is on characters learning about the season, rather than straight up celebrating - it makes it SO much more palatable...
Agreed. I'm not a fan of Christmas specials, so I wasn't going to watch it, but I loved it. I should know by now to trust James Gunn 😁

A funny twist would have been to reveal at the end that Kevin Bacon had super powers, but kept them secret to protect his friends and family. The whole acting thing is just his cover. He returns home and goes to his Christmas party which happens to be with all the Avengers.😀😀
I thought Madison had the best reaction to Mantis telling Peter that she was his sister. And I agree with Christian: any amount of Cosmo is great.

I'm so glad I didn't watch the trailer or have any info about this going in, because I didn't know Kevin Bacon would be in it, and as soon as Drax said "we could get Quill a great hero", I went, "NO WAY! There's no way you can get -- oh, shit, it's Kevin Bacon!" 😂
When Captain America & Winter Soldier comes back for season 2, if there isn't at least a mention of Bucky losing his arm to Nebula somehow, I will be sad.
Cosmo is voiced by a female actress, and James Gunn has confirmed Cosmo is female in the MCU; probably to draw more parallels with the real-life pupper Laika, one of the most famous pups in space.
