My family has grown our own veg for generations. I remember as a child when my father planted seed he would say "One for the mouse. One for the crow. One to rot. And one to grow." He got that from his grandpa and I still say it now when I plant. Keeping the old tradition going.

Nope, some people are just miserable piles of lard and have nothing better to do, but it’s ok, because TH-cam’s algorithm treats a negative response as a view and content creators still get credit for it.
People like me that don’t pay attention to how they hold the phone. Total accident all of the time. I certainly would never dislike any of his videos on purpose. So I think you’re right, they just accidentally hit the dislike button.

Possible reasons:
1. Hipsters being 'ironic';
2. People jealous that he's got the space to have raised garden beds; or
3. Companies that will sell you replacement soil for the beds.
I like how Mark has enough sense of humor to laugh at himself. Most TH-camrs would cut out bloopers, but not Mark (sneezing in this case, or other times like accidentally tipping over a cart full of stuff, tripping, etc). 😆 More genuine, if nothing else.

Another good title for this video: how to amend with your old done plants. Never ceases to surprise me how many people think they have to throw out their finished seasonal plants instead of comp8sting it right back in.
Agreed! They burn it, or put it in a compost heap, but just put it back in the garden. It's still composting. I don't just do that in the fall, but throughout the summer. When a plant isn't working or peters out, I pull it up and just lie it back in the ground. Unless it has a disease them I get rid of it

Good for you Judy, I am 73 and still look forward to getting up the next morning to cut firewood, plant or even weed the garden or cut the grass. I am in Pennsylvania and am planning my garden now between glasses of wine.

Whever I'm feeling low I look for this lovely man and his Garden. He remindes me of my grandfather and he loved growing veg/fruit. Would love to see this garden in person one day, but I think I'm not the only one. Keep making these videos please, they make my day and keep my fond memories of my grandparents alive ^_^

After seeing the videos where Mark said the AU company expanded shipping into the USA I got several of them. They really are amazing and such a relief from back pain! It's easy for me to pull up a gardening stool if I'm going to work in the same spot for a bit too. I have 4 of them now and would love to add another 2 each year ideally!

Thanks for the entertainment. I enjoyed watching you work so hard and put in those expensive amendments to grow a little corn. My method takes the least amount of work I could figure out to do and no amendments are purchased. I have a commercial mower with a grass catcher and hydraulic dump and a few acres. I till the quack grass that is always there. Then plant the corn with a push planter. Then dump the grass and weed clippings along the side of the corn and spread this mulch very lightly right after planting to confuse the pheasants and hold in the moisture. When the corn is big enough I heavily mulch with the grass and weed clippings. This provides all the nitrogen and fertilizer the corn needs and keeps the weeds down.
What a great way to put our beds to rest for the winter here! I love your chipper and table set up and I think it’s a great set up. How clever.

Way back when, my father always had a moving trench in the garden. The base of this was filled with the kitchen scraps etc and back filled with the next trench that slowly got dug alongside.
BTW when I had a lawn mower I used that to chop up small prunings and the old plants etc. I ran over it a few times then used the catcher on the last passing then add the clippings to the garden or compost heap. Speeds the whole decomposing process up. 👍😃

It just occurred to me a week ago that my new compost pile will be a trench made of two furrows and work it just as you described, so cool!

Thanks,I watch your videos with my morning coffee. I have been trying to develop a closed system container garden. The more I watch the more I learn that it may be impossible without letting part of the garden "rest" while making green manure. I have even started taking grass clippings from my neighborhood to make more soil.
I don't have raised beds, as I grow mostly fruit trees. I do have some plants in containers. I try to keep things simple, as my "soil" is sand, in Florida near the beach. Very depleted. I do the chop and drop method for my star fruit tree and others, along with grass/weed clumps that come out of my lawn mower. I have an invasive vine that is all over my yard, and it's very viscous. It sticks on the underside so I have to scrape it off every five minutes or so. I chuck these onto the base of my trees and tuck a few into the white bearded orchid. I also dig soil from the alley where big trees have been dropping leaves, birds have been doing their thing, and the bugs and worms have found a home. This is wonderful potting soil, and I also use it as a fertilizer. Additionally, in hot dry weather I make soil/sand piles around the base of the trees after I water to help keep in the water. I find that the added dirt from anywhere leaks it's extra nutrients down into the dirt and since it's already broken down, the plant can use it right away. People think I'm crazy to say I fertilize with plain ol' dirt, but I do. I also stir around the base of the plants to break up the top and it helps release extra nutrients as well as lets in oxygen. My yard is lush and overgrown, which is unusual for this area.
Sheep manure is also excellent when your soil is very sandy.
I love how you show people how to work smarter instead of harder. In my opinion most traditional methods should be questioned and looked at for more efficient ways to get things done

Good tip to reuse plant waste. I have increased my rate of germination by soaking the corn overnight. Any large seed like beans and pease also gives you a good head start.

I love that mulcher chopper thing, wish I could splash out on one. Sometimes I use my lawn mower to chop up stuff like seaweed and now I'm thinking I'm going to mow the brassicas.

I did that last year with my tomato and okra plants and fig prunings. It was awesome!! Not a single weed until, not even the Bermuda crept back in until late summer the following season, in a completely neglected area! (A friend's yard) I only wish I'd had more stuff to mulch up. For a chore, it's actually really fun.

Love those raised beds. Those corrugated tubs are mighty pricey over here in the States, but they would sure be nice in the front yard. Look to be great back-savers!! What surprises me, though, is that as much as you like them .... you haven't taken the next step and used one to make a nice pool to relax in after a hard day's gardening. Here in America. using Stock Tanks to make into shallow pools, like a jacuzzi, is quite the trend and they work wonderfully. If you look around Pinterest and TH-cam, you'll get tons of ideas on how to set them up, including using pool noodles to cushion the edge and installing jets for a relaxing massage. I looked all through your videos and was really sad to see you haven't already added one to your yard!

Aside from the gardening tips, Mark seems such a nice person.
I have seen some gardening videos where they run a string a few inches above the seedlings and the birds don't like it and stay away. Also using tulle keeps rats, sguirels, rabbits, etc. away because they get their little claws caught in it and it makes them think it is a trap. I really like and appreciate your videos, thank you!

A lot of people don't like the work that goes into a wonderful garden. I love it, especially in fall and late winter. It's fun, it feels good to exercise and I know in prepping for the next season ahead. I'll be planting garlic and onions on November 1. After that, I'll put a couple inches of fresh Angus dirt on top and say "nigh night garden!" I have 4 beds that I seeds with carrots a few weeks ago. They're just starting to get their first set of true leaves! I'll be covering them with plastic when the cold comes around. Looking forward to carrots I April!

I just want to say that I love this mans videos, and that he has helped me so much. Our climates are very different, however, all the same principles can be applied when you think like this man.

I can't wait to see how your corn comes out as here in the US we are told to plant it 2.5 to 3 inches deep ( a little past your second knuckle). This helps the plants have a deep strong root system. Also you may have stunted plants if all of the seeds germinate ( due to lack of space). I hope it goes well for you. I haven't seen many videos of corn doing well in raised beds. You may want to think about drip irrigation. And maybe a trial patch in the ground seeds space 8 inches or so apart in rows about 10 inches. 2 seeds per hole. Also if you pre soak the seeds it speeds up the germination. Love watching you. And want the best for your growing efforts.

That's what my dad taught me when I was a little kid. I use a old wood chipper for all my garden material. Go's right back into the garden or the compost pile. 👍
We've been applying Queensland Organics Organic Xtra to our macadamia trees for around a year. Its good stuff. It comes in pellets and the trees seem to like it. Its also sold at a good price which is a bonus.
I just deleafed my brussels and was wondering what to do with all that foliage. I don't have a brush grinder but I do have a mower. Jolly good idea fine sir.

You absolutely should wear a respirator when putting down the sugar cane mulch. I ended up with a bad sinus infection after putting down similar mulch because it had fungal spores apparently...
