That 90s version look so creepy and really cool looking like a horror version or what timburton’s adiptation would look like if he had full creative control.
Fun Fact: One of the actors that played Wonka in the animated ads was legendary voice actor Maurice LaMarche of Futurama, Pinky and the Brain, and Animaniacs fame. Futurama would parody Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the episode "Fry & the Slurm Factory", but ironically, LaMarche wouldn't voice the Wonka stand-in in said episode.
I’m genuinely surprised we’ve never had an animated Willy Wonka movie yet. I could imagine someone like Illumination or Warner Bros. taking on the project, and an animated version of the story would allow for more vibrant imagery (they would even be able to recreate things from the book like the square sweets that look round.
@@RonaldBeam That was basically just a copy paste almost shot for shot animated remake of the 1971 original just with Tom and Jerry shoehorned into the plot.
Not gonna lie, I would say rather than having an animated Willy Wonka movie, how about we get an animated show that continues the events in the 1971 film. I got a cool plot idea too. Charlie gets the factory to himself and has a robotic partner with him and they start doing tasks and then end up finding the spoiled kids. They end up staying with Charlie and learn to better themselves becoming his friends. The episodes will probably slice of life with hints of something more serious at play. Like Charlie fighting with competition or something. I mean hey. I think it’s pretty cool. Better than that animated nightmare fuel movie that was talked about
Def would've LOVED to see both the cancelled 90s animated movie AND the lost VHS animated movie! The watercolor style of the VHS movie heavily reminds me of Harry Nilson's The Point (but a bit more leaning into a storybook feel of it) and I hope more than the TV Room scene is found! Upset that the 90s remake got cancelled cause I wouldve loved to see if it would be a more darker toned variation leaning almost like Tim Burton's adaptation or a weird hybrid of book and original movie!
Imagine if there was a willy wonka film directed by Steven Spielberg around between the 1980s or the 1990s, with Macaulay Culkin as charlie bucket, Christopher lloyd as grandpa Joe, and Michael j fox as willy wonka?
@@Kyranyoutubevids If they did that, then Gedde Watanabe would have to be an Oompa Loompa that says: "YOU GET NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! STUPID! YOU'RE SO STUPID!"
I miss the Wonka candy brand. Sure, we still have Nerds products and maybe if you're really lucky enough you can find Runts, but they lack the Wonka branding and have for some time now. I always thought it was strange they didn't have any chocolate products, and focused more on various fruit flavored bits. Sure, they had a Wonka bar as a tie in to the Tim Burton movie, but even in the end they focused on weird shaped gummi candies.
@@Wildduckpro Sort of, I guess? They had ONE Wonka branded product. Gummi versions of his hat filled with some blue goop that's supposed to stain your tongue.
As a swedish guy I most say I find it a bit wierd how YT suddenly seems to know and care about this "miniseries" as you call it. Back in the 90's this was a very common structure for childrens-TV in Sweden. To simply have someone read from childrens litterature and show the illustrations on screen. They did the same with especially the Astrid Lindgren-books. And actor Ernst-Hugo Järegård, the narrator of 'Kalle och chokladfabriken', is certainly a very good lector. He made a funny and fitting voice for each character. So I'm glad this gets recognition on the internet, but I still find it strange.
The lost 90s project fascinates me greatly in the fact it was styled more after Tim Burton. I wonder what their direction even was, and how that would be received commercially. Its got a very 90s horrific grunge vibe to it that some games had at the time.
Another lost piece of media is the first Italian dub for the Wilder movie. Apparently the film was first distributed in Italy in 1971 and was redubbed for a VHS release in 1984 with an entirely different cast, and only the second dub has been rereleased ever since. Not much is known about the first dub, except that all the songs had a new Italian cover and that Wonka's voice actor MIGHT have been Oreste Lionello, an actor and comedian who was known at the time for voicing Gene Wilder. The second dub is kinda eh, all the songs have been kept in English and there are some random name changes here and there (like Veruca was confusingly enough called VeruSca and Mike Teevee became Mike TRAVIS but whatever), but it's still fondly remembered and more loved than the 2005 movie
We sure elements of the WB remake didn't wind up in the Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film? It's mostly shot for shot for the 70s film but there's a few unique bits aside from the obvious new T&J scenes :P
I don't wanna say first, and I haven't watched the video yet, but I want to say that your DW lost media iceberg was GREAT I just watched it Glad there's more, I hope more are found 🤞
Seeing the illustrations of the Swedish version, I wonder if the look of Johnny Depps' version of the character was possible influenced by them. Doubtful some Hollywood costume designers would know of an obscure Swedish version of the book, but you never know.
Maybe, but also the 2005 version is one of the most book accurate interpretations of the book. And if the Swedish version is also just as accurate, then I'd say they just got the ideas from the book itself. I'd love to see the Swedish version, though. I love the illustrations so much.
