      No question hands down. Greatest talent I've ever seen. I grew up in Seattle and was lucky to witness his greatness again and again. It's 2020 and im 37, still have not seen a better player yet.

      I had his swing and played the same position.
      It was a fun game i had coaches in high school that sucked the fun out of the game, it was all about winning to them, not about the love of the game.

      +nicholus1980 Hahaha hahaha. Everything you just said was pretty Fucking stupid, but holy shit at the Barry Bonds comment. The only thing Bonds was better than Griffey Jr. at, was abusing steroids.

      +Ryan Roberts what did Griffey ever do better than bonds? Typical fan boy with nothing to back up Griffey being better. Griffey was a great no doubt but Bonds was and always will be on another level.

    Best PURE hitter of all time. If weren't for injuries in the later part of his career, he would've broken the HR record without ever using STEROIDS. Baseball was exciting in Seattle back in the day. Buhner, T. Martinez, E. Martinez, Griffey, ARoid. Those were the days. Still get chills watching him score winning run in the 1995 ALDS. Wish Griffey would've stayed in Seattle. My favorite player of all time. Thx for the upload.

  • @chrisr7319
    @chrisr7319 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    That swing, that effort, that joy for the game. So much fun to watch! I grew up loving to watch the Dale Murphy combination of power, speed, and defense and then when he retired I picked up on Griffey Jr who also brought even more speed, power, and defense.

  • @daNEXTheisman10
    @daNEXTheisman10 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a huge Mets fan I would have to say in my lifetime Griffey JR is by far the best baseball player I've ever seen. I wish he had never gotten all those injuries and we could have a legit Home Run king because we know he would've shattered it but thats ok. We know in an era where everyone and their kids juiced Griffey JR was one of the few who did it cleanly.... and he still did it better than anyone else anyway.

    • @jayelbee1111
      @jayelbee1111 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Junior would have ended his career with around 730 home runs or more, well over 3,000 hits and a lot more Gold Gloves. He was scary good. He literally had no weakness in his game except nagging injuries. Playing style similar to Willie Mays. That beautiful swing of his was so smooth, fluid, and nearly flawless.

  • @bbjfam8248
    @bbjfam8248 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My all time favorite athlete. Was so influenced by Jr. growing up that I copied his stance, swing and even the way he held the bat. Meeting Jr is on my bucket list. GOAT in my book.

    • @petersklynch
      @petersklynch 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Willie Mays was the best CF of all time, but I'll agree that Griffey's the best CF since Mays.

    • @smittywerbenjagermanjensen3015
      @smittywerbenjagermanjensen3015 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Peter Lynch No, Willie Mays was good but Griffey was the best CF in baseballs golden age (PED age).

    • @petersklynch
      @petersklynch 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      SmittyWerben Jagermanjensen
      Despite playing in an era with deflated offense, Mays had Griffey beat in all of the slash stats (AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS), as well as HR, RBI, R, and SB.
      If you're sabermetrically inclined, Mays was #7 all-time in runs created (Griffey was #22) and #5 in wins above replacement (Griffey was #56).
      Don't get me wrong, Griffey was a fantastic player. And he had the best swing I've ever seen. But Mays is the best CF of all time however you slice it.

    • @seahawks1185
      @seahawks1185 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Different era of baseball by far. 1950's - 70' come on, Griffey would of hit 70+ HR's back then, stole massive amounts of bases, and raped the outfield etc etc etc. He would of been a god in that era of baseball, period.

    There are a few things in sports that I would describe as "poetry in motion". Jordan's jumps. Bird's passes. Ali's dance. Griffey's swing would be right there with em. A thing of beauty.

    • @nickhall6201
      @nickhall6201 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Junior Segovia No Griffey was great but not some top 3 player in history or his era. Bonds is on another level than any of these guys. Trout is great too but people saying Griffey was in anyway better than bonds at any point of there careers is what gets on my nerves.

    • @nickhall6201
      @nickhall6201 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Junior Segovia He is overrated when people say he was the goat dude was not even top 50. He was a favorite of mine as a kid but as an adult I realize he was never as great as I thought he was and Barry Bonds was always better. Griffey was my favorite as a KID but he really wasn't ever a 5 tool player even. He won a few hr titles a few derbies gold gloves and 1 measley mvp? Know your history and stats boy and stop trying to argue.

    • @juniorsegovia145

      I agree. In a way, I am glad his career went the way it did. He had a natural career arc. No sudden late career resurgence. I actually taught myself to be a switch header by mimicking his swing. I can now bat left-handed for power and right hand for a high batting average. If I had committed to baseball over basketball, I mean who know what could have happened?

    the most important thing baseball is looking for is contact and power. speed and fielding are backups but if you suck at power and contact, you need to be good in speed or fielding.

    What we all have to remember about Griffey is this: Could hit for power, average, great fielder and runner, AND, if he could've had 2 or 3 more healthy seasons, the all-time home run king. We know what Barry Bonds could do, but he was drugged. THIS guy is the greatest player in history EXCEPT for maybe Babe Ruth.
    Oh...and that SWING!

      Or if he stayed healthy his whole career. Interested to see if someone were to document how many homers he would have hit if he stayed with the Mariners and every ball thag would be out distance wise was counted
