No question hands down. Greatest talent I've ever seen. I grew up in Seattle and was lucky to witness his greatness again and again. It's 2020 and im 37, still have not seen a better player yet.
I had his swing and played the same position. It was a fun game i had coaches in high school that sucked the fun out of the game, it was all about winning to them, not about the love of the game.
+nicholus1980 Hahaha hahaha. Everything you just said was pretty Fucking stupid, but holy shit at the Barry Bonds comment. The only thing Bonds was better than Griffey Jr. at, was abusing steroids.
+Ryan Roberts what did Griffey ever do better than bonds? Typical fan boy with nothing to back up Griffey being better. Griffey was a great no doubt but Bonds was and always will be on another level.
2016 MLB Hall of Famer. Easily one of the greatest players to play the game in any era. 5 tool player. No steroids, no scandals, no arrests, regularly showed up at the stadium at noon for night games just to prep.
Best PURE hitter of all time. If weren't for injuries in the later part of his career, he would've broken the HR record without ever using STEROIDS. Baseball was exciting in Seattle back in the day. Buhner, T. Martinez, E. Martinez, Griffey, ARoid. Those were the days. Still get chills watching him score winning run in the 1995 ALDS. Wish Griffey would've stayed in Seattle. My favorite player of all time. Thx for the upload.
That swing, that effort, that joy for the game. So much fun to watch! I grew up loving to watch the Dale Murphy combination of power, speed, and defense and then when he retired I picked up on Griffey Jr who also brought even more speed, power, and defense.
As a huge Mets fan I would have to say in my lifetime Griffey JR is by far the best baseball player I've ever seen. I wish he had never gotten all those injuries and we could have a legit Home Run king because we know he would've shattered it but thats ok. We know in an era where everyone and their kids juiced Griffey JR was one of the few who did it cleanly.... and he still did it better than anyone else anyway.
Agreed. Junior would have ended his career with around 730 home runs or more, well over 3,000 hits and a lot more Gold Gloves. He was scary good. He literally had no weakness in his game except nagging injuries. Playing style similar to Willie Mays. That beautiful swing of his was so smooth, fluid, and nearly flawless.
My all time favorite athlete. Was so influenced by Jr. growing up that I copied his stance, swing and even the way he held the bat. Meeting Jr is on my bucket list. GOAT in my book.
SmittyWerben Jagermanjensen Despite playing in an era with deflated offense, Mays had Griffey beat in all of the slash stats (AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS), as well as HR, RBI, R, and SB. If you're sabermetrically inclined, Mays was #7 all-time in runs created (Griffey was #22) and #5 in wins above replacement (Griffey was #56). Don't get me wrong, Griffey was a fantastic player. And he had the best swing I've ever seen. But Mays is the best CF of all time however you slice it.
Different era of baseball by far. 1950's - 70' come on, Griffey would of hit 70+ HR's back then, stole massive amounts of bases, and raped the outfield etc etc etc. He would of been a god in that era of baseball, period.
I got to see a lot of legendary players come through town back in the KingDome days but I am proud to say that when we had Griffey, we had him at his best. He made the impossible look easy. He could hit a little too :-)
There are a few things in sports that I would describe as "poetry in motion". Jordan's jumps. Bird's passes. Ali's dance. Griffey's swing would be right there with em. A thing of beauty.
+nicholus1980 lol you're an idiot show me stats where he is any indication of being overrated.... You probably think mike trout is goat right now typical baseball fan
+Junior Segovia No Griffey was great but not some top 3 player in history or his era. Bonds is on another level than any of these guys. Trout is great too but people saying Griffey was in anyway better than bonds at any point of there careers is what gets on my nerves.
+Junior Segovia He is overrated when people say he was the goat dude was not even top 50. He was a favorite of mine as a kid but as an adult I realize he was never as great as I thought he was and Barry Bonds was always better. Griffey was my favorite as a KID but he really wasn't ever a 5 tool player even. He won a few hr titles a few derbies gold gloves and 1 measley mvp? Know your history and stats boy and stop trying to argue.
+Nick Hall ahha you're argument is pure opinion there's statistical numbers behind ken that proves how truly great he is you're just a fat guy on the couch who thinks he knows baseball sit down guy
Baseball for me retired when he retired, he was the rrason i played into high school, then it was all about winning and not having fun. When he played he just went out and had fun. I recently went to the batting cages and i can still belt it to the top at 75 mph. Made me miss this guy and the sport
Hunter Seisinger griffey didn't cheat to get there. Everyone else around him was juicing and he did it completely on his talent. Pretty obvious he hardly even worked out.
not just saying this because he was on my hometown team but griffey was hands down the most gifted baseball player ive ever seen easily could have went down as goat if he didnt have injury issues
I agree. In a way, I am glad his career went the way it did. He had a natural career arc. No sudden late career resurgence. Just one good last year with the M's that he should have hung his hat on instead of coming back and playing for a manager who obviously didn't want him there. Where is that manager now?
thee only guy to ball like that without the roids. simply put the best ever to me. class act and if not for the injuries he would have been named the goat and not just by me
Man I witnessed my Jays go into the old stadium of there's in Seattle when they had Johnson Martinez Buhner Rodriguez and Griffey and knew it would be a barn burner man that old king dome was a tuff stadium to play especially when the Big Unit was on the mound how they never won a championship with that team just baffles me
Erik Sather yeah apparently we travel good around the league man Ken Griffey Jr was and still is my favorite player of all time 2 bad he had them injuries cause he would've smashed that hr record
Great comments. Mad respect for a true legend in baseball. He is my favorite player. I rank him easily in top ten player of Alltime. He maybe the best all around player of Alltime.
To me if he stayed healthy...he was going to end up the best baseball player ever...other worldly athlete insane power and hitting with unmatched fielding to go with crazy speed for base running...I mean seriously
I remember when that kid was dying of cancer and all he wanted to do was meet Ken Griffey Jr. and Griffey met him and made the kid very happy. Griffey played baseball like a super human
He hit 398 home runs in his first 10 seasons. It's a big assumption even if healthy he would hit another be 402. Love Griffey though he would have to average 40 homers for another 10 seasons after his injury issues started
My man Griffey could have Juiced and got 850homeruns but just declined with injuries the reds are still paying his ass he still on the books LOL I love Griffey
"The Kid" was the best baseball player I ever saw. That catch he broke his wrist on in 1995 is the greatest catch ever made. It literally broke my heart when players started taking steroids. I said when Junior retires, I'll never watch another game. I've kept that promise,
He lead the MLB in homers 4x times during the steroid era... Wowzers.. That says a lot. he's don't seem very big either. I looked at his stats today & in Seattle he had about 6-7 pretty much legend type seasons. Good for him!
If you are wondering how to construct a perfect baseball player, look at Griffey. Have you heard that story about how Ray Charles could sense a woman's beauty just by touching her hand? You can tell Junior is one of the greatest hitters ever with one photo of his swing. The balance and energy are all you need to see.
KG2, king of batting stance, king of swing, king of bat drop, king of center field. I really hope the 50+ baseball cards I saved through his career will one day be worth enough to retire. I joke...but hopefully they aren’t all for not...I really miss growing up and idolizing Griffey Jr.
+Mike Sheerin before today I always thought he should be a zero ballot inductee. basically meaning unanimous and it's a no brainer. Congrats Griffey. He's pushing 50 years old but he always be known as "The Kid"
+Mike Sheerin I know lol. 3 people out of 450, it's like when the godfather came out everyone hailed it but there was that one contrarian who didn't think it was good enough.
I actually taught myself to be a switch header by mimicking his swing. I can now bat left-handed for power and right hand for a high batting average. If I had committed to baseball over basketball, I mean who know what could have happened?
I don't know if a lot of people feel the same way, but how cool would it be to play with your own dad?? I wish I was born earlier to have seen the few games that Griffey Sr. and Jr. played together.
the most important thing baseball is looking for is contact and power. speed and fielding are backups but if you suck at power and contact, you need to be good in speed or fielding.

We know what Barry Bonds could do, but he was drugged. THIS guy is the greatest player in history EXCEPT for maybe Babe Ruth. Oh...and that SWING!
Or if he stayed healthy his whole career. Interested to see if someone were to document how many homers he would have hit if he stayed with the Mariners and every ball thag would be out distance wise was counted
A young healthy Jr was the most perfect baseball player I've ever seen.
I concur.
I’m here in 2020. This comment held up well.
No question hands down. Greatest talent I've ever seen. I grew up in Seattle and was lucky to witness his greatness again and again. It's 2020 and im 37, still have not seen a better player yet.
No 1996 bonds was the best player you’ll ever see and before you say that he was on roids he wasn’t he started roids in 1998
Most certainly
Every kid in the 90's tried to swing like him at some time. He was a Beast! Speed and Glove skills, Dude was a Monster!
lol... you damn right
I had his swing down
I had his swing and played the same position.
It was a fun game i had coaches in high school that sucked the fun out of the game, it was all about winning to them, not about the love of the game.
My high school coach would always tell me that .
Imagine if you were a righty
Not just won of the greatest overall ball players ever, but one the greatest gentleman and class acts in professional sports.
Until he fell asleep in club house
+nicholus1980 Hahaha hahaha. Everything you just said was pretty Fucking stupid, but holy shit at the Barry Bonds comment. The only thing Bonds was better than Griffey Jr. at, was abusing steroids.
+Ryan Roberts what did Griffey ever do better than bonds? Typical fan boy with nothing to back up Griffey being better. Griffey was a great no doubt but Bonds was and always will be on another level.
Bonds is human trash that's why he will never be in the hall of fame hahaha
PREACH
Simply the most fluid swing in the history of MLB.>>
Never a more perfect , beautiful, sight to behold then a Junior swing. Congrats on going to the HoF. Well deserved!!
2016 MLB Hall of Famer. Easily one of the greatest players to play the game in any era. 5 tool player. No steroids, no scandals, no arrests, regularly showed up at the stadium at noon for night games just to prep.
Looking at his u tube stuff. He seems like a natural talent.
+artman66 class act. The kind of player every kid wants to be
On point with your statement..Has to be considered top five all time for what he did with the bat, glove and class act off and on the field.
artman66 Imo. The G.O.A.T
Great description, model for any athlete past, present, and future.
Best PURE hitter of all time. If weren't for injuries in the later part of his career, he would've broken the HR record without ever using STEROIDS. Baseball was exciting in Seattle back in the day. My favorite player of all time. Thx for the upload.
watching "the kid" play was a thing of beauty. thanks for the memories!
my favorite baseball player of all time ever since I was a little kid
Will never forget opening those 1989 Upper Deck packs and finding his RC, one of the most treasured moments as a kid. Greatest player ever.
The Jordan of Baseball💯🔥
The difference is he never won championships.
if it wasn't for injuries he would easily be the home run king. the best pre bat stance and post swing
I agree, he would have had over 800
richard escobar Without a doubt.
richard escobar what injuries?
He had 7 or 8 seasons worth of injuries . Imagine how many more HR's he would've had .
Hands down the GOAT
Best I've ever seen. Always and forever. I'm so lucky to be able to see him play in the kingdome and safco field growing up.
Most swag in the game
I have been an Indians fan for 20 years. Griffey was the best player i have ever seen.
That swing, that effort, that joy for the game. So much fun to watch! I grew up loving to watch the Dale Murphy combination of power, speed, and defense and then when he retired I picked up on Griffey Jr who also brought even more speed, power, and defense.

Fantastic video. Griffey was my favorite player growing up and always will be. Nice tribute.
Not to mention the top Center Fielder of all time.
Willie Mays was the best CF of all time, but I'll agree that Griffey's the best CF since Mays.
Peter Lynch No, Willie Mays was good but Griffey was the best CF in baseballs golden age (PED age).
SmittyWerben Jagermanjensen
Despite playing in an era with deflated offense, Mays had Griffey beat in all of the slash stats (AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS), as well as HR, RBI, R, and SB.
If you're sabermetrically inclined, Mays was #7 all-time in runs created (Griffey was #22) and #5 in wins above replacement (Griffey was #56).

Edmonds wasn't bad either
Greatest Position Player Of This Era.
Arguably #3 All Time CF
I got to see a lot of legendary players come through town back in the KingDome days but I am proud to say that when we had Griffey, we had him at his best. He made the impossible look easy. He could hit a little too :-)

Umm magic was a better passer bud
0:51 u can actually see when he identified the pitch and adjusts mid-swing to push it oppo. Nice vid.
One of my favorite players ever loved watching this guy
To me he's the goat I say it because he had so many injuries and he still put up hall of fame numbers.
If he stayed healthy 800 home runs could have been a possibility
+nicholus1980 lol you're an idiot show me stats where he is any indication of being overrated.... You probably think mike trout is goat right now typical baseball fan

Griffey>bonds
Yes
Totally
Hunter Seisinger griffey didn't cheat to get there. Everyone else around him was juicing and he did it completely on his talent. Pretty obvious he hardly even worked out.
Griffey was a class act. Class was something Bonds didn't have
@Simon Dewitt you're A dingus.....Nuff Said Slick.
Un jugador completo , el espectáculo
He was special! The best I have ever seen
not just saying this because he was on my hometown team but griffey was hands down the most gifted baseball player ive ever seen easily could have went down as goat if he didnt have injury issues

DEVILS REJECT love it when the Jays fans come down from B.C. Great passionate fans.
Erik Sather yeah apparently we travel good around the league man Ken Griffey Jr was and still is my favorite player of all time 2 bad he had them injuries cause he would've smashed that hr record
Holy hell, that vertical jump at 3:48 !
One of the best all around baseball players to ever play the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My fav player and it's not even close and it just seemed like every time he came to minnesota he smashed everything
Great comments. Mad respect for a true legend in baseball. He is my favorite player. I rank him easily in top ten player of Alltime. He maybe the best all around player of Alltime.
Can't wait to see that swing in MLB 17 The Show.
my favorite ball player growing up. the absolute best center fielder to every play
Beutiful swing
To me if he stayed healthy...he was going to end up the best baseball player ever...other worldly athlete insane power and hitting with unmatched fielding to go with crazy speed for base running...I mean seriously
Of all Jr.’s achievements, hitting back-to-back HRs with his dad has to be #1. It was awesome to see!
A sweet moment
I remember when that kid was dying of cancer and all he wanted to do was meet Ken Griffey Jr. and Griffey met him and made the kid very happy. Griffey played baseball like a super human
The most well balanced player for a moment in time
would have 800 home runs if he wouldn't have been injured. and he did it without steroids or even ever being mentioned with steroids
Yup. A pure baseball player. No steroids. And that says a lot nowadays
+mannylora im an indians fan and I went and watched a game in Cincinnati and Griffey's swing was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen
Eric Spicer yeah he would have are the H.R. record so high nobody would ever touch it!!
He hit 398 home runs in his first 10 seasons. It's a big assumption even if healthy he would hit another be 402. Love Griffey though he would have to average 40 homers for another 10 seasons after his injury issues started
I didn't really care for baseball but this man is now the reason i respect baseball
My man Griffey could have Juiced and got 850homeruns but just declined with injuries the reds are still paying his ass he still on the books LOL I love Griffey
Greatest Mariner of all time with the sweetest swing ever.
Thank you for not putting stupid music on this. Great job.
Will always be one of my favorite players
GOAT 🐐
The PITCHER at 2:36 ZOOOOM!
"The Kid" was the best baseball player I ever saw. That catch he broke his wrist on in 1995 is the greatest catch ever made. It literally broke my heart when players started taking steroids. I said when Junior retires, I'll never watch another game. I've kept that promise,
What could have been if when he started to get injured he would have become a first baseman. Greatest player of all time
The most beautiful swing in baseball.
Amazing player one of the greates
He might just be the best player of his era. And he did all of this without using steroids.
Junior's swing was perfection! Congratulations to Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza on being the newest members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
He lead the MLB in homers 4x times during the steroid era... Wowzers.. That says a lot. he's don't seem very big either. I looked at his stats today & in Seattle he had about 6-7 pretty much legend type seasons. Good for him!
GOAT
Best baseball player of the 90s for sure injuries destroyed him
1:24 jumpman griffey xD
Seriously the GOAT
If you are wondering how to construct a perfect baseball player, look at Griffey. Have you heard that story about how Ray Charles could sense a woman's beauty just by touching her hand? You can tell Junior is one of the greatest hitters ever with one photo of his swing. The balance and energy are all you need to see.
Dopest Ken Griffey Video I've Seen!
There can't be anyone with a better top-10 career plays than Griffey.
KG2, king of batting stance, king of swing, king of bat drop, king of center field.
I really hope the 50+ baseball cards I saved through his career will one day be worth enough to retire. I joke...but hopefully they aren’t all for not...I really miss growing up and idolizing Griffey Jr.
Still my favorite of all time.
Ken Griffey Jr. deserve to be in the Hall of Frame and he was the best.
Yes my favorite baseball player of all time's
he should be in the hall of fame
Courtney Gibson he will be. theres a 5 or 6 year wait after retirement.
He is eligible to be voted in this year and he will be a 1st ballot hall of famer
+Mike Sheerin before today I always thought he should be a zero ballot inductee. basically meaning unanimous and it's a no brainer. Congrats Griffey. He's pushing 50 years old but he always be known as "The Kid"
jb ray He should have been a unanimous inductee but the voters are awful
+Mike Sheerin I know lol. 3 people out of 450, it's like when the godfather came out everyone hailed it but there was that one contrarian who didn't think it was good enough.
and he did it without ever touching a PED. Greatest ballplayer of our generation
The G.O.A.T. this man in his prime was second to none.
No bonds was better like way better that’s why Griffey only won 1 mvp and bonds won 3 without steroids
If you can already hear that a Hit is going to fly anywhere but inside the park.
My all time favorite player!
THE ONLY HITTER who could admire a HR and not get plucked next at bat.
I actually taught myself to be a switch header by mimicking his swing. I can now bat left-handed for power and right hand for a high batting average. If I had committed to baseball over basketball, I mean who know what could have happened?
That catch at 3:50 is one of the Greatest Over the fence catches in baseball history!
That's my favorite Griffey catch of all time. Tiger stadium in Detroit, I believe it was in 97'.
It was like 3 1/2 feet over the fence too lol. Nobody had any business robbing that ball but he did it. Only player that couldve.
My favorite baseball player!!! For me, he's the best player of all time!!!
1994 world series baseball for sega...3 people you always used....Randy Johnson, Mike Piazza, Ken Griffey jr
Seattle was very exciting that time. Shawn Kemp, Payton and Griffey!
You like sports?
I strive to be this man.
how about you be yourself
I don't know if a lot of people feel the same way, but how cool would it be to play with your own dad?? I wish I was born earlier to have seen the few games that Griffey Sr. and Jr. played together.
best I've ever seen...
best baseball swing ever
From 1992-1999 griffey jr was frequently the 2nd or 3rd best player on the mariners alone, forget the entire league.
The most talented hitter ever
Ken Griffey Jr was the greatest hitter of my era who didn't get caught up in the steroid scandal and I'm 35
When I golf now, and I got a hold of one at the t- box I call it i griffied that one
the most important thing baseball is looking for is contact and power. speed and fielding are backups but if you suck at power and contact, you need to be good in speed or fielding.
Grif, bonds, arod sweetest swings in baseball history
So underrated.
Yes! Not even a debate!
The greatest fact : This man has nothing to do with steroids.
Best one of all time he could do offense 10-10 defense 10-10 speed 10-10 I mean this guy how'd everything
What we all have to remember about Griffey is this: Could hit for power, average, great fielder and runner, AND, if he could've had 2 or 3 more healthy seasons, the all-time home run king. We know what Barry Bonds could do, but he was drugged. THIS guy is the greatest player in history EXCEPT for maybe Babe Ruth.
Oh...and that SWING!
3:37 pitcher doesn't even look to check if it's a homerun haha, he's like "god dammit"
He looked like a superhero in the 90s
my favorite swing in the game's history
A lot beautiful swings in the game, Griffey's swing was sexy.
Greatest home run hitting, non steroid swing of all time
He was the centerfiled...what could have been had he stayed with the mariners..what a talent..
Or if he stayed healthy his whole career. Interested to see if someone were to document how many homers he would have hit if he stayed with the Mariners and every ball thag would be out distance wise was counted
