Lara supports ALL her notes, has enough control to execute very long belts and complex melismas, resonates her entire range, keeps a fully neutral larynx and sings very, very difficult songs. She has a great range and one of the best techniques I've ever heard. She is capable of making quick transitions, powerful vocal lines and employs an operatic technique known as Bel Canto. Adele...she struggles with even the most elementary belts. She can't support above B4, does not resonate, has horrible control (even below C5 she sometimes strains!), a high larynx, and a very small belting range. Adele cannot sing melismas whatsoever, rarely controls her vibrato, and even struggles to finish a simple vocal lines (like in Skyfall or Set Fire to the Rain). People confuse her loud, contralto voice for good technique. In reality, her technical singing is not too far off from the likes of Miley Cyrus. All vocal experts know this, and this is why she was only rated as a C level vocalist by professionals. Even so, her voice is a result of vocal surgeries and vocal steroids- it's not even natural. Her horrid technique is what got her to lose her voice AGAIN, perhaps permanently this time. Overall this video is entirely pointless, just like comparing an elephant to an ant.

Peter Smith Or we could not compare two of the best French vocalists of all time (or rather vocalists). They both have a lot of respect for each other. In fact, Lara wrote a letter to Céline on the cover of one of her CDs explaining how she is her inspiration and her favorite singer, and she has been since she was two. Lara has a beautiful voice and amazing technique. However, I prefer Céline's musicianship over Lara's, as well as her melisma and runs. Celine did not have as much time to study music classically, because as a child she was as poor as they come. Then she was singing professionally at 12, where Lara studied music for 10 years (which is very admirable). She got to perfect her craft. Celine has done the same through experience, so she has a different style and sound. I would say the two are in the same boat. I wouldn't say that Celine is better, nor would I say Lara is better. They, along with a couple others, are the best.

No, her voice isn't big and chilly enough. A more fitting example of that voice type would be Anastacia. Adele's voice is still too lyrical and warm to be dramatic. She's just on the heavier end of lyric mezzo-sopranos.
It's like the resonance of Lara projects away of her on a distance of half a meter or so, surrounding her with a heavenly glowing bubble that homogenizes everything too. She sounds like an extremely expensive instrument, perhaps a trumpet made in gold or so ;-) Other great singers I listen to resonate closer to the mouth, so it sounds more human. There is room for some other colors that Lara can't give, for more raw emotion but it often sounds tenser and everything is merciless exposed.
It was the 2nd time that I returned to this video after a few months that I was able to finish listening to it because I could not bare to hear the huge disparity between Lara and Adele's voices the first time I tried listening to this. Listening to Adele was like someone scrapping their nails down a black board!!! That's how bad it was for me. While I have in the past and do sometimes enjoy Adele's songs, her and Lara are not comparable at all in technical vocal prowess. Lara's vocals far exceeds Adele's capabilities. There was no way Adele could beat Lara at a single note here, nor will she ever beat Lara vocally ever.

Octobre Mikee You know what annoys me? Anyone who thinks Adele is even remotely comparable with the likes of Lara Fabian (Whitney, Mariah, etc). How can a person watch a video like this and think Adele is even close to these legends?! How can a person listen to "Hello" and conclude that Adele can rival a true Diva?? What a terribly overrated artists, and that's an understatement. She can barely finish a 3 second C5 correctly, there is so little control, so little support in her voice. Above C5, she is a disaster. Below C5, she is barely average. And yet, people claim she is the next Whitney! A JOKE!!!!!

It's like the resonance of Lara projects away of her on a distance of half a meter or so, surrounding her with a heavenly glowing bubble that homogenizes everything too. She sounds like an extremely expensive instrument, perhaps a trumpet made in gold or so ;-) Other great singers I listen to resonate closer to the mouth, so it sounds more human. There is room for some other colors that Lara can't give, for more raw emotion but it often sounds tenser and everything is merciless exposed.
It was the 2nd time that I returned to this video after a few months that I was able to finish listening to it because I could not bare to hear the huge disparity between Lara and Adele's voices the first time I tried listening to this. Listening to Adele was like someone scrapping their nails down a black board!!! That's how bad it was for me. While I have in the past and do sometimes enjoy Adele's songs, her and Lara are not comparable at all in technical vocal prowess. Lara's vocals far exceeds Adele's capabilities. There was no way Adele could beat Lara at a single note here, nor will she ever beat Lara vocally ever.
