    1940s is my fashion interest. How they survived such hard ship and made do with what they could get. Such beautiful fashion and creativity.

      It’s a fascinating era isn’t it? I think we can learn so much from it now. The less they had the more ingenuity went into creating beautiful outfits. Thank you so much for watching! 💐

    I loved this video, '40s are such a fantastic era for fashion and style, i love the silhouettes and I think they were one of the most elegant moment in fashion history. Thank you for sharing that with us, you have an incredibly fabulous patterns collection, in my country it's very difficult, I'd better say impossibile, finding them, we have to buy them abroad. I'm very fascinated every time a watch your videos because you know so much about fashion, there's always a lot to learn from you 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

      Thank you very much lovely friend. I’ve always been fascinated by fashion history, mostly Edwardian up to 1970s. The era around WW2 is fascinating from a dressmaking perspective because the challenge presented by fabric rationing made for some ingenious designs. I’m so pleased to know someone who shares my passion for vintage fashion and approaches it in an eclectic manner. It is lucky that in the UK many vintage dress patterns and pattern magazines are still available. I even find them at vintage fairs and car boot sales! There has to be something that compensates for our dodgy weather! 💗💘💘💘💘💕💕

    Yes make the iron out flat dress. My mom in law was a young bride in this time period and she sewed and loved vivid colors. She passed in ‘21 at 96 years. I wish I could talk to her about the fashion of the day. I learn from you why she loved certain colors and styles. Thanks as ever for your videos. Also your clever explanation about how things are written and skimmed over, I agree 💯 that’s what happens.

    • @Samanthalovestosew
      @Samanthalovestosew  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your encouragement to make the iron out flat dress. I will! How interesting about your mom in law. I imagine after years of being told to choose sensible grey for one dress that would go with everything during the war years, vivid colours were irresistible. For many years I wrote and edited sewing and crafts books (in the days when print was more of a thing!) so I know what goes on in publishing houses. The internet has created even more laziness around research. That’s why original printed books, magazines and patterns are worth their weight in gold. They tell their own story. Thank you so much for your engagement and support 😊

      Oh I’m so pleased. I have lots of vintage pattern magazines, mainly from the late 1930s. I love the way they direct you as to exactly what fabric colours and patterns to choose! I want to gauge interest … if encouraged I might do a slightly more detailed look!! And thank you for encouraging me to make the dress - I’ll do it this summer! I know exactly what buttons I want to use. ❤️❤️❤️

    I love the original packaging, providence of history you have kept and treat with care. To me you have always been about everyday vintage as well as the glamour side and lovely you look in both elements. You know I am not one of your 'Vintage Kindred Spirits'. Make the dress and I will watch but probably I will enjoy most the bit at the end most when you model it and look fantastic. Take care.

      The original packaging is fascinating isn’t it?! It has its own charm. You might not be a vintage person as such but I think you have a respect and care for people, including those gone before, that makes you a kindred spirit. Thank you always for your support.

    Samantha you look stunning again today in both outfits you were presenting in and the ones you inserted pictures. I love the late 1940 styles as they remind me of my mum (now living with dementia at 96 years of age). Her wardrobe was full of similar styles you showed. She was a hoarder but as I grew up l put pressure on her to discard what she wasn’t wearing (she did take up most of the wardrobes 😆😆). Boy! Don’t I regret that now. I would love you to make the pattern you showed. ❤️🌺

    Oh wow I love these dresses! I definitely need to check out more of the late 1940s myself now. I did actually go see a Christian Dior exhibition a month ago or so and the bar suit is quite pretty. So much tinier than I imagined as well
    Also I love your plaid dress with the fun pockets ❤. This made me really want to make more 1940s frocks 😆. I’m currently making a matching linen set!

Really enjoyed this 😀I could not help but laugh a little at the bust size on full view on the envelope 😂Removeable sleeves could work, at least there is the best of both worlds thing, on cool days add the sleeves, on hot days remove them, just remembering to take the sleeves where the people went, & not lose 1 🤣You look incredible in your dresses, jacket/skirt 🥰Aaaawwwww, woof woof 🐶🐶Thanku 'sew' much for sharing. xx 🪡✂🧵💙
