It's like he's just "being", like, he knows what he has but he doesn't realize how great others see it because he is just himself, he just "is" without feeling the need "to be" because he already "is being". It bleeds into his style of emotional expression in his songs as well, he sings conversationally; not as if he's just retelling a story, or to show off, or to seek validation, or to evoke emotion, or to get a reaction from the listener. He sings like he's taking the listener back with him in the moment in the story, or like he's spilling out thoughts after he's done reflecting leaving it all up to the listener to take and interpret. He sings like he wants to be heard, and not just to get a response from the listener. Arthur understands the power of softness, gentle intensity, tenderness, subtlety, nuance, and restraint. And with it all, he makes listening to him feel like a careful yet honest conversation, like an intimate heart to heart talk. His singing style is intimate, like he sings to you, not for you.
We humans are wired to find artistic emotional expression attractive/sexy.. And Arthur's particular style, artistic identity, image, voice, and songs are sexy, because it's all very deeply emotionally-driven yet still also relatable. He's complex yet he's also "simple" like just like every other guy, and his songs have stories we all experience/d at least once. His whole brand is sexy because it's all tender, gentle, romantic, intuitive, dreamy, introspective, eloquent, introverted, rose-tinted, free-flowing, and poetic, yet also raw, grounded, contemplative, sensual, deep, communicative, direct, connective, perceptive, minimalistic, and very much realist/realistic. His songs are like heart to heart talks, daydreams, and late night thoughts. He sings like he's the voice inside your head reciting the silent memories, monologues, and conversations full of 'have beens' and 'what ifs' that play in your mind while you lie awake in bed at night thinking of momentous times with the cherished person/s in your life, his intimate singing makes you yearn for and wonder what it is like to love and be loved so deeply.
I get this feeling of "letting go" finding solace when listening to his songs, maybe because the way he sings reflects his writing process of pondering and self reflection while coming to terms with what he's going through/feeling and then releasing all that through song. The whole process of the way he ruminates, writes, and then musically expresses his feelings reflect the way his songs make listeners feel. ..Like ease of tension, acceptance, a warm hearth, a comforting hug, or a sigh of release from the struggle through the storm.
Raw yet thoughtful, sensitive, and multifaceted persons/works of art have always beguiled and will always beguile people, that's what Arthur and his sound is and that's why he's captivating to us as well. His image, energy, and sound is also sexy because it's all wholesome and classy with a Jazzy/Old Timey feel about him (reminds me of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Maxwell, etc) yet he's humble, unpretentious, and progressive without having the need to put up a "good guy"/"bad boy" front, nor add flashy superficial bravado, artificial elaborate glamorization, deliberate dramatization, or shock value to his image and works. His brand of romanticization without added flashy exaggerated theatricality, is refreshing in the industry. Emotions and experiences like love and grief can feel grandiose, dramatic, and intense, but at the same time, it can also be as natural, easy, effortless as breathing and existing; that's what Arthur shows and blurs boundaries with in his art. His artistic expression and his brand/image is straightforward yet mysterious, multifaceted yet ambiguous, simple yet complex. Ever-changing, everything and nothing at the same time; he comes off as very "real" snd "human" , very integrated with himself, with no stark sense of separate public "persona" or artificially curated defined celebrity image concept.
He's very layered yet at the same time, he doesn't put up a facade. Arthur and his works seem simple and naïve at first but actually has a lot of depth and wisdom, there's a mixed sense of innocent, jovial, curious child-like naïvety and wise, mature, resigned old soul world-weariness about him that makes him and his work feel "real" and relatable to all ages and walks of life. He's like a hopeless romantic poet and a pragmatic philosopher combined.
I find him also intriguing in a sense that, his "energy" in the way he carries and expresses himself physically, artistically, and musically has balanced masculinity and femininity. This may sound odd, and I can't articulately explain it enough, but Arthur's artistic expression supersedes and transcends gender expression, age, and/or time, it's all just "being". His music is timeless, aIl feeling and experience, all soul stripped and laid bare.
I find him so fascinating. I hope he goes far and gets bigger than he is now. I hope he touches more ears and hearts, more people need to experience his gift.
