IT DOES NOT HAVE A CVT. It does have a single speed/gear connection between the petrol engine and the front axle. It's just like top gear in a manual gearbox. It only engages at higher speeds, apparently at or higher than 70 km/hr or 45 m/hr.
@@ACURACALABAR11Yeah it does give you a heavy steering and when I drove it through winding road, it does feel like the suspension has stiffen and it doesnt wiggle as much from my experience. @@ACURACALABAR11 The problem with reviewers of this vehicle is that they dont really go in deep using Tarmac mode and then make a final review of the supposed overall performance of the car using only Normal, eco mode for the most part. If you're doing highway driving, say more than 100kms. Fully charge the battery and then select "save" mode. And once you've got 55kms to your destination use "ev" and finish your battery off. Fuel economy never goes above 6.5L/100km.
Work the battery down to 50% before hitting save. Will get longer life from battery keeping it between 20-80% of you want to keep it longer than the 10 year warranty
Yep yep. This set up is similar to Honda Hybrid which uses single speed transmission but all the work happens on one of the electric motor. I think lol

We've had our base ES PHEV since April 1st. 10k km covered so far. Averaging about 1200-1400km/tank (heavily application specific) smooth, quiet, enough power to get out of its own way. Comfy seats. Been very pleased with our outlander as of now.
Just leased one of these a few weeks ago in Louisiana. Dealer was doing $3k under MSRP + $7k lease cash so $10k discount. Dealers marking up RAV4 Prime several thousand. No brainer decision. Better interior, better warranty, more features, just a better value overall!
@@HeyElliottI'm guessing the lease cash was that they treated the tax credit you get in the US which you still could get for leasing as cash towards the deal
@@HeyElliott Leased it. They give you $7000 cash which lowers your adjusted capital cost. If you’d rather purchase, you can still lease it to get the $7000 discount then just turn around and buy the lease out early.
Picked up a 2023 this year, it's a solid vehicle. I would like some more stiffness in the steering, but that's nitpicking. It's handsome and comes with a lot of perks for the money.
If the PHEV third row is a dealbreaker consider the non-PHEV model. It has a lot more room, comfier headrests, and can recline further than the default (which adds headroom) by pulling the recline tab after you're seated. I'm 6'2" and can sit in mine slouching and without my head touching.
They should have used the Tarmac mode when doing that winding road. It has the same as power mode but with heavier steering and giving you somehow feeling of a stiffer suspension.
@topnineshow I think this one is 100% Mitsubishi. The only thing Nissan did here was the platform, this doesn't use the 2.5 from the Rogue and the non-hybrid Outlander.
I’ve been waiting for this…and yes, should have booked it earlier. Good news is, now you can do the ‘24 and have a companion video. Great video…miss the box test
Wife and I own a 23 PHEV SEL Premium and it is SUPER nice. I have also had Rouge rental cars and they DO NOT compare to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. They really feel like 2 different vehicles. It even seems like Mitsubishi is using some type of acoustic windows??? Extremely quiet. My wife’s only complaint is the way the brakes feel. While we are very happy with the PHEV that being said we probably would not have bought a non PHEV Outlander. As for the GKN transmission and Mitsubishi 2.4 engine those components are bullet proof! My only fear is 5 year resale value. I know it won’t be Toyota like but I hope it maintains some value.
This car has been on my sight for ages and I really love it. Would have bought it if I wasn't moving back to Europe in 2 years. Mitsubishi is no longer present in many European countries unfortunately so for maintenance and support it would be complicated. Good job guys. Don't fire Yuri. 😅

i had the rav4 on my watchlist but the outlander will be replacing it. the outlander seems like more of a better buy at the price point. i'd prefer to go for the model with the least amount of electronic driver aids. i cant stand lane keep assist, stop/start, collision warning etc. etc.
Waiting 8 years for a model that would be replaced within 5 years is ridiculous. Maybe if it were a Land Cruiser 70 (still being sold new where I live), maybe that would make a little more sense since after 8 years, it would still be the same model as before.
I love my Rally Art Mitsubishi PHEV Outlander. It actually gives me 45 miles on EV only, and now I have to worry about using the gas so that I can change it out every 3 months. The mudflaps and artwork give it an 80s/early 90s kind of look with a modern build. I was originally looking for a Toyota Rav4 Prime, but for the price and features, I'm super happy with my Outlander purchase. I highly recommend that you consider a test drive if you're looking for a similar SUV. I couldn't be happier, and can't wait to take it out camping with my family.

@batmama4242 1 year after purchasing my outlander and I have zero regrets, and still highly recommend it. Drives great, great mileage, comfortable, ac and heaters work great and I still think it ranks above the rav 4 and any competitors. The only thing is the third row seats are quite small, but they fit my 6 and 8 year old fine when I bring my parents or in-laws on rides with us.
I want Mitsubishi to succeed! not sure if Nissan is holding them back or helping them but I wish this Outlander had more Mitsubishi-esk design rather than borrowing from the Rogue, which is an OK car but considering their reputation I would love to see an Outlander design from the ground up by Mitsubishi rather than copy and modify a model from another company. To me is just sad some car companies have to do this to stay competitive it lacks innovation IMO.
Interesting, my mom just bought a 2023 normal gas Outlander, switching from her 2021 Outlander Sport which also had the CVT transmission. Her old car had a similar CVT to this where it just screams at you till you get to the desired speed. But the Outlander she has now which is just the gas-only version of this, also has a CVT, but they make it mimic a traditional transmission giving you the experience of shifting gears as you speed up. I wonder what did they do different from the regular version to the PHEV.
This car looks great, seems like a vehicle that you can take out in tough storms and on mountain trips. Would be cool also if they check out the new Atlas
I wish PHEVs would offer a solar roof option. Is it going to get you accross country? No Is it going to extend your range? Yes The average SUV has enough roof space that a bright summer day will see around 8kWh over a 9-10 hour work day which is just shy of some L1 chargers.
Not a CVT tho. It's one gear gearbox that works only at 70km/h, before that its just a gasoline engine at optimal revs powering the generator who then powers the electric engines.
I own one since December and I love the car, but I learned a few things that is not is great: Once the gas engine kicks in, even if you battery is full, it will take a VERY long time to turn off, for no reason The B mode will turn on the gas engine if your battery is more than half full. Then you fall into the same issue above (using gas when you have plenty of battery) EV priority mode is disabled if you have less than 25% of gas, even if your battery is full. EV real range is around 45 to 55km, on a good day
I think you need some adjustments to how you use the EV mode. To turn off the gas engines during B mode, ensure you switch back to B2 or lower (B1 or B0), then switch to EV mode - the ICE will turn off within 1 - 2 mins. Also it’s not true that EV mode is disabled under 25% gas in the tank. As a matter of fact, a lot of us only fill up to 1/3 tank to avoid forced use of ‘stale’ fuel after 3 months of not filling up. EV range is reliably in the low 70 kms for us here in New Zealand if not more, based on weather and A/C or heater use in mixed city and highway drives.
I worked at a large dealership in thr gold coast, australia, that sells Mitsubishis, and these came out not long after i started working there and i was genuienly really suprised by it. Coming straight from the previous gen to this was night v day. I hate the previous gen, boring, Souless, really dislike them, this deletes the negatives and builds on the positives. No suprise these spawned out of nowhere so quickly in australia.
Definitely take it over the Rav4 without waiting a year. Outlanders are awesome. Regular or Sport. Actually Outlander Sport is the true Outlander. They should let Outlander Sports have the Outlander name. And they should rename Outlanders to Overlanders and make them 6 inches longer, so that the third row is legit.
Due to the scarcity of the dealers in my area test driving and purchasing an Outlander phev was a challenge. Ended up in a Hyundai santa fe hybrid that I’m very satisfied with so far, but think I might have gone for one of these if a dealer had been more convenient to access. I do lots of short trips so could have feasibly filled up once every couple months. I do like taking long trips often through the year so that’s why I wanted a hybrid vs a full electric suv.
I bought one at the start of the summer (2023). I got 9000 miles on the clock and love it. comfortable for road trips but the gas mileage kinda sucks when you are out of electricity. That third row is the idea of a third row, like they said not very practical. If it was removeable it would give you room and take weight out. I go a thousand miles on a quarter tank of gas in Pinellas county, mind blowing
Honestly, i thought Mitsubishi was going to be the next brand to exit from north america after Suzuki. This Outlander is a looker for sure. I haven't experienced the interior first hand but everything looks really nice. The only thing I wonder is how well will the materials hold up? Also, Mitsu is top ten in JD power dependibility(6th), ranking higher than their partner, Nissan.
@@danielzhang1916 yea... Most Americans want big SUVs and trucks for utility and practically, and also for family road trips as well. And I think Suzuki went out of the US a few years before the trend of small crossovers and SUVs has risen up.
My neighbour came by to drop off my mail (while we were gone) and was telling me it's been 16 months since he's on his Sorento Hybrid (maybe plug-in?) waiting list and they still have no ETA for him. He said he was going to visit Mitsubishi to see their offerings.

Good luck finding a CHAdeMO charger these days
You don’t need to pull power from CHAdeMO port. It has two 1500w AC plugs in the interior.
If you wanna go super fringe there’s also the Polestar 1 with a CCS port for 50kW DC
@@plemieux84completely different technologies. The v2g (grid) tech through a 2 way charger allows the battery to be connected like a house battery (Power Wall for eg). It will sync to grid frequency and can feed your house and grid (assuming your retailer allows it).
If you plug the v2l 1500W inverters into your house, they will be at different frequency and you'll likely nuke them. You could put a dedicated circuit in your house for them, but that's very clumsy compared to true v2g.
Good luck finding a CHAdeMO lol
These are very popular in the Knoxville,TN area. I pass dozens of them daily anytime I’m driving around the area. It’s a good looking vehicle honestly.
its almost the ultimate poor man's car if you don't fk with Kia
@@UnknownCharacter-n9v "poor man's car" lol. Why spend more than you need to. Not often the best solution on the market is also the cheapest.
I've suddenly started seeing these things everywhere, which is kinda cool after seeing almost no new Mitsubishis on the road for the longest time.
Its the best selling phev in the world!!!
more people are buying because it's cheaper and the quality has improved
I am glad you guys did the review of this car. I have been driving one for the past few months and love it!
Have one, got it in 2023 and absolutely LOVE it. Still trying to figure out the best drive modes to get the best mileage but with my work having L2 chargers, manage to go at least 4 weeks without seeing a gas station and my commute is about 33km straight highway driving.
I've owned Mitsubishi's for 30 years. I can't wait to own the Outlander again. This one has some great features and I was looking at full EVs but after this video I'm gonna go with this instead.... Thanks for a great and informative video!!!
how have they been on reliability? ive heard nothing good of them, and their pricing matches that expectation
i had the 2008 Outlander V6 AWD - that was one sweet little ride. It's AWD system was amazing. I ended up trading it in at the 6 year mark - but I never had ANY issues with the car. It ran flawlessly for those 6 years. I hope someone else is out there enjoying it.
Yep, we've had Mitsubishis since 2004 and never a problem with any of them. I also have had other vehicles too over the same time that had to be serviced. I traded my Jeep Grand Cherokee in for the phev about a month ago and have no regrets
Fantastic vehicle! I went ahead with the purchase of a 2023 PHEV Sel Premium and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the decision.
Forget about the RAV4 Premium, just go with the Outlander and I promise you'll be happy.
Love what Mitsubishi did with this car, I own a 2011 Outlander and still drives with 145k miles and the 2.4 engine. super reliable.
Is that the same 2.4L they used in the first generation Outlander? 2003 era. My mom had one of those and that thing was bulletproof.

After a year waiting for a Tucson or Sportage PHEV , we did buy an Outlander PHev. Great car. Love it !!!!!!!
HELP PLEASE! I’m on the fence. A few questions questions.:
1) I hear the driver seat isn’t all that comfortable after sometime driving?
2) I hear there’s no real air conditioner fan in the back seat. It doesn’t blow air.
3) there are issues with it, heating the cabin? something about the design?
4) I’ve heard the car might not turn on if it’s too cold
5) The steering makes an uncomfortable drive
6) is there anything else I should know about?
7) do you have any regrets?
8) have you had any major issues?
IT DOES NOT HAVE A CVT. It does have a single speed/gear connection between the petrol engine and the front axle. It's just like top gear in a manual gearbox. It only engages at higher speeds, apparently at or higher than 70 km/hr or 45 m/hr.
For cornering use the tarmac mode instead of the power mode. It tightens up the steering and handles much better that way.
Does the Outlander have adjustable suspension? I don’t recall ever seeing anything about that.
@@gpaull2😂😂😂😂 tighten up suspension.....😂😂😂😂 pretty sure is the steering get a bit heavy
@@ACURACALABAR11Yeah it does give you a heavy steering and when I drove it through winding road, it does feel like the suspension has stiffen and it doesnt wiggle as much from my experience. I tried both power and Tarmac mode, there is really a difference in terms of handling feel, but power delivery are the same.
@@f50koenigg i just find it hard for them to put electronic dampers on it. Not saying you are wrong
@@ACURACALABAR11 The problem with reviewers of this vehicle is that they dont really go in deep using Tarmac mode and then make a final review of the supposed overall performance of the car using only Normal, eco mode for the most part. But at least here, they did go a little in detail using power mode.
I was on the RAV4 prime waiting list for 9 months and I got so frustrated and just happened to drop by a Mitsubishi dealership and took the Outlander PHEV.
Two weeks later I found a Ash black Outlander PHEV GT- Premium in my garage.
The best purchase I made and 6700Kms in till date with just 2 gas top ups!!!
Maybe the reason you don't feel the CVT is because there is no CVT 😅
Yep, it has a 1 speed transaxle GKN Multi Mode E-Transmission.
😂
Yep yep. This set up is similar to Honda Hybrid which uses single speed transmission but all the work happens on one of the electric motor. I think lol
Yep
@@verynick You're mostly right but I think the Honda hybrids can also connect the engine directly to the wheels at 1:1 (5th/6th gear equivalent speeds) at highway speeds
It’s too late in the lifecycle for you guy but I had no idea Mitsubishi had a plug in hybrid. Might be something to look at to replace my Tiguan. Thanks Yuri for taking on this car! Here’s to another 200,000 views!!

Curious, what is a "lease cash" discount? Did you purchase this car and finance it or...?
@@HeyElliottI'm guessing the lease cash was that they treated the tax credit you get in the US which you still could get for leasing as cash towards the deal
@@HeyElliott Leased it. They give you $7000 cash which lowers your adjusted capital cost. If you’d rather purchase, you can still lease it to get the $7000 discount then just turn around and buy the lease out early.

I'm glad that I will buy a fully loaded 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV because it's great and it's the world's best selling PHEV.
did you buy one year you've been commenting on videos for a year
I would have liked to see the box test. It's a test I appreciate when you talk about a family-oriented car.
This car looks so awesome! Thanks guys, hugs from Brazil!
🎯
I own since 2 years ago an Outlander SE 2.5L We like it so far, Is our family car and my wife daily car. I got it since is naturally aspirated AWD.
After seeing all these comments it seems like this Mitsubishi outlander is going to replace the rav4 in the US as a top seller
Nissan did not help Mitsubishi to make PHEV. It’s the other way around.
Actually, they're right. Nissan helped them create the engine such that it acts as a generator to charge the vehicle.
@topnineshow I think this one is 100% Mitsubishi. The only thing Nissan did here was the platform, this doesn't use the 2.5 from the Rogue and the non-hybrid Outlander.
Nissan actually owns 30 percent of the car brand. So they're relaunching as more of a sports brand
Those Outlanders have been pretty successful
CVT can't sing if it doesn't exist
Glad to see you two enjoying the 2023 Outlander PHEV!

Mid cycle refresh that adds ventilated seats into that blank button spot would make these killer, tho $60k CAD after tax is wild
I have this exact car. Absolutely love it!
Yuri, you’re hired.
Thanks can I bring jakub with me? I don’t know how to talk about cars with anyone else 😂
Isnt the outlander one of the best selling phevs in europe?
Y'all need to do more of that cinematic style camera 🎉🎉🎉
could you please add a little segment going to a dark place and checking how the lights (parking lights, low and hi beams; fogs etc) looks when turned on ?
new cars with these crazy headlights are really appealing when the lights are on .

i had the rav4 on my watchlist but the outlander will be replacing it. the outlander seems like more of a better buy at the price point. i'd prefer to go for the model with the least amount of electronic driver aids. i cant stand lane keep assist, stop/start, collision warning etc. etc.

YOUR BIGGEST KENYAN FAN RIGHT HERE, 18/08/2023
I would buy one of these compared to a Rav4 Prime and 8 year wait
I’d Buick anything over an 8 year wait
Waiting 8 years for a model that would be replaced within 5 years is ridiculous. Maybe if it were a Land Cruiser 70 (still being sold new where I live), maybe that would make a little more sense since after 8 years, it would still be the same model as before.
don't forget the 10k-20k markup at the stealership.
anyone else noticed the quality of the video is wayyy better on this video?
Yeah they def fixed their interior cam.

@@chuyesque dear for your thoughtful reply it is very helpful!
I LOVE THE FRONT. There. I've said it.
@@David-bv6xz religion is mental poison.
but the design is so cool
That front really reminds me of Land Rover, but worse 😂
Interesting, my mom just bought a 2023 normal gas Outlander, switching from her 2021 Outlander Sport which also had the CVT transmission. Her old car had a similar CVT to this where it just screams at you till you get to the desired speed. But the Outlander she has now which is just the gas-only version of this, also has a CVT, but they make it mimic a traditional transmission giving you the experience of shifting gears as you speed up. I wonder what did they do different from the regular version to the PHEV.
New camera setup? or messing around with the settings? kinda liking on the wide shot inside.
This car looks great, seems like a vehicle that you can take out in tough storms and on mountain trips.
Would be cool also if they check out the new Atlas
I think they are pretty nice looking and the interior is really nice for the price
I’m very glad to have seen this video…will be looking at this after getting frustrated by lack of inventory from others.
I wish PHEVs would offer a solar roof option.
Is it going to get you accross country?
No
Is it going to extend your range?
Yes
The average SUV has enough roof space that a bright summer day will see around 8kWh over a 9-10 hour work day which is just shy of some L1 chargers.
Not a CVT tho. It's one gear gearbox that works only at 70km/h, before that its just a gasoline engine at optimal revs powering the generator who then powers the electric engines.
I own one since December and I love the car, but I learned a few things that is not is great:
Once the gas engine kicks in, even if you battery is full, it will take a VERY long time to turn off, for no reason
The B mode will turn on the gas engine if your battery is more than half full. Then you fall into the same issue above (using gas when you have plenty of battery)
EV priority mode is disabled if you have less than 25% of gas, even if your battery is full.
Actually I considered buying one before finally waking up from my dream inside my '24 prius
I watch this w coffee instead of the news! Pipers unite!
It do look awesome 👍🏾
I have a 22 SEL non phev version, and the interior was the #1 selling point. Nothing else can touch it at the price point.
Getting one 🗣
Love the fullscreen widescreen. Finally a reason to zoom my screen.
There is NO CVT in the Mitsubishi PHEV.
Scion actually went out of business after Suzuki about 6 years ago.
@@jonlosito2004 True, however Scion was always part of Toyota. It really just got re-absorbed.
Suzuki failed because people didn't want small SUVs and sedans, they got pushed out of the market
@@danielzhang1916 yea... Most Americans want big SUVs and trucks for utility and practically, and also for family road trips as well. And I think Suzuki went out of the US a few years before the trend of small crossovers and SUVs has risen up.
Love all that tech
My neighbour came by to drop off my mail (while we were gone) and was telling me it's been 16 months since he's on his Sorento Hybrid (maybe plug-in?) waiting list and they still have no ETA for him. He said he was going to visit Mitsubishi to see their offerings.
