This group also made an album, I think it's called Stardust, with Freddie Hubbard's Povo. Awesome band. Benny Golson was one of the giant improvisers on the tenor.
Cruising youtube Mr Golson is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine. This video really makes me wish I was In the house. Respect due to these wonderful musicians and the uploader
One of the best jazz videos I've seen. Should be nominate for an award. Everything comes together at high level of excellence - performance of the extraordinary musicians and the photography, i.e., cinematography. When I saw this was made in Japan I thought - 'that figures'. Thanks much for sharing it.
bro shits so fucking crazy litterlay made my jaw drop like thse motherfucker keep it so goddamn clean like i aint ever hear people lay it down as smooth as this son
I don't think Freddie was at his most fluent. You can tell in his body language he was having some of the chops problems which dogged him throughout his later career.
To me, it's kind of a mix between post-bop and hard-bop. It's has a traditional bebop structure with bebop phrasing in the solos, but also some "free" lines which would come from free jazz. Then again the tempo is very relaxed and the beat is quite bluesy. Really the only thing I can say is that it's some form of bop and all the musicians bring their own thing to the table making it a very dynamic performance.
R.I.P. Benny Golson :-(
Don't be sad he had a great life and gave us amazing music 😌
Enjoy the Big Band in the sky where many friends await you, Benny! 🎼🎷🎶🎵❤️

Goodbye Giant and thank you. 😢
Un monumento! ❤

a ravishing Session, thanks for share !
RIP Benny Golson 🙏🏿
Now THAT is what I call "Cool"!
Awesome!!!
Excellent jazz!
