    Hello Mr Hedge,
    I have watched this video for quite some time now, over and over again and i'm still getting goosebumps from the sound of the DX7 MKI and II
    I also love the song nikita as well for many years, never knowing that it was partialy created with the DX7 synths.
    As a matter of fact i never new that these synths were used on so many songs from the 80's, i just found out it was!
    I instandly bought an DX7 and i'm lovin' it, i will keep it for the rest of my life!
    Thanks for this awsome video, greetings from Holland!
    (Sorry for the mistakes, if there are any : - ) )

    I knew Elton John used a DX7 when i first heard the song years ago plus on a live performance he had one on top of his piano.

    Elton used a Yamaha GS1 on Nikita but not sure which presets he used.

      Interesting. I tend to tweak these from scratch. But if you’re on a preset hunt then both EP and bell made it into the DX7S and DX7II Factory sets. Initially there were a few variants on the vRC sets. These are typical FM so I wouldn’t be surprised if the GS-1 did something similar. From what I gather though it was a much simpler setup. You’d kind of need the extra operators and routings to get these right.

    What factory patch off the DX7 was used for the brass solo?

    • @Hedge777
      @Hedge777  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Patch name is “I.BRASS 1”. There are lots of versions of it and I do not remember which one I used specifically.
      Go to Dave Benson’s DX7 page and grab all the DX7 banks. There’s one “Brass” bank in the “DX7 EXTRAS” folder. Another 3 are in the “dx7patch” folder. One of them should have the variation of the patch you hear in the video.

    • @jaggass
      @jaggass 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hedge 777 I have the that patch but it does sound slightly modified on Nikita.

      Just a possibility but the sound I'm playing in the vid might sound brighter because all of my DXs MIDI outs are scaled to do full 0-127 velocity. If you can't bump velocity then try cranking up the modulator levels slightly. That might do it. If not then browse through the banks on Dave's page.
      P.S.
      The brass sound on the album version is definitely different. It's not even an FM sound. Recall looking over the gear list and the Jupiter and MKS80 were on there.

    • @jaggass

      The brass sound is pretty close to the original. A Jupiter 8 was more than likely used because it's what Fred Mandel often used between 1984-1986. It can be seen on Elton John Live At Wembley 1984 and Elton John Live In Australia 1986.

    Is it just an E Piano 1 type patch?

    • @Hedge777
      @Hedge777  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only have access to Hedge’s current setup.
      In the beginning of every verse he uses “FullTines “. Then before the chorus he doubles it up with “HarpsiWire”.
      And I know you’re not asking about the brassy sound but he switched to one of his OB-Xd presets for that. Anyways, see pinned post on FB for all patches/downloads.

    what piaNO PATCH YOU USED?

    • @Hedge777
      @Hedge777  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t use presets. Program own sounds. Old video so I no longer have the voice data. Here’s a link to a DX7S Factory Set. One of the electric pianos sounds similar: www.dropbox.com/s/x2nqg35rexj9oh8/DX7S.zip?dl=0

    What efect is this one?

    • @Hedge777
      @Hedge777  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only “effect” used was reverb and some slapback chorus. As shown in the video everything is coming out of my DXs. You can download the sounds and play them with Dexed plugin. See description/ page for the rest.
