Ok, looking through the comments, y'all need to ACTUALLY read the lore instead of going "hurdur you catch anomalies but u n anomaly, Updike". He doesn't go off and capture just any anomaly, but ones that are dangerous. Whitty, for example, while a decent guy, is a living bomb made by a doomsday cult, and is capable of blowing up entire cities. Heck, we see him do EXACTLY THAT in the game over sequence of the "Date Week" mod. Updike is basically in the "would you redirect the train to kill one person instead of letting it kill ten people" scenario. THAT'S why he says it's "for the greater good" He also tries to capture girlfriend because she's a literal demon...the daughter of two highly dangerous demons who ruined a lot of lives, as a matter of fact. Even in canon, they trapped souls in video games, attacked a Mall Santa, etc. Updike sees her as a threat as a result. Does it suck? Yeah, it sucks. But the world isn't black and white. Sometimes bad things have to be done to save others. Are we still gonna hope Whitty escapes every time? Yeah, hopefully followed by him miraculously finding a way to stop exploding.

As a writer and an artist, I sometimes get inspiration from mashups and covers. This one’s no different. Just what is Updike and Garcello’s relationship? Maybe they were old friends one time (hence the title being called Memories) before the latter disappeared and found dead in the alleyway. Maybe he thought he wasn’t really dead when he collapsed, only semiconscious, alone and cold in the dark, with no one around him to help him. Maybe he blames himself for his death, but finds the perpetrator and vows to get revenge. Maybe Garcello’s death made him start The Greater Good, to save the lives of people like Garcello: People who just wanted to live. Maybe he remembers the begging of his targets to be spared, and they haunt him. Whitty would be no different; if he was killed, he would just be another voice added to haunt him forever. Maybe he thinks Garcello’s voice is there, too, begging him to keep him alive or spare the innocent souls he’s murdered in hopes of saving everyone. Maybe GF would’ve been one too if it wasn’t for BF. Maybe he wishes for a way to reform the monsters he chases, but has given up all hope for that plan. He’s conditioned himself that this is the best. For everyone. I never thought while writing this, I would tear up. When I think about it, Updike is just as tragic as Whitty and the other unfortunate victims of Daddy Dearest. And he’s not even a victim of Daddy Dearest. Imagine this scenario: After fading away Garcello comes back and realise that "curse" Daddy Dearest put in him make him kinda "imortal", due to the fact Garcello comes back alive with more urge to smoke after all "death" he has, wich caught Updyke's attention to find him ask him "questions"
Updike looked reflexively at the gun in his hands, he really didn't want to do this but it was for the greater good, if he let whitty live it would only be a matter of time before people got hurt, he was created for that after all, he sighed and started walking through the alleys, according to the residents he frequents this place, it wasn't long when he saw smoke coming out of one of the alleys, he immediately ran towards the alley, if he didn't kill whitty before it exploded the whole city would explode, he took out his gun and pointed to where the smoke was coming from, he was puzzled when he saw that it wasn't whitty but a homeless man who was smoking, the man immediately raised his hands and spit his cigarette on the floor. "They're common cigars I swear," he said hastily. Updike lowered his gun and sighed, it was a relief that it wasn't whitty in this situation, he holstered his gun and addressed the homeless man. "Sorry about that, I thought you were someone else" the hobo sighed in relief and pulled out a pack of cigarettes and took out another putting it in his mouth lighting it, he looked at updike and offered him one, updike denied the offer and garcello shrugged and put the pack away. "May I ask who exactly you're looking for, maybe I can help you, you'd be surprised how many people come through here." Updike thinks about it for a moment, if this man has been here constantly it's possible he's seen whitty. "Have you seen a tall guy with a bomb head recently?" The homeless man blanches at the question, it's obvious he saw him, though he doesn't know if he freaked out because he's his friend or because he did something to him. "...What exactly did he do?" Updike shakes his head and garcello looks mournfully at the ground, he smokes his cigarette again and looks at the sky, the golden glow of dawn reaches his eyes, he sighs and lower his head and see one sign with a Picture of mom and dady dearest. "Then I haven't seen it" he says simply, removes the cigarette from his mouth and throws it on the floor and steps on it to put it out. "Do you realize the risk you put everyone at risk just to protect him?" Putting thousands of lives at risk just to protect one, how selfish was this guy?. "I know exactly the consequences of what I'm doing" the drifter replies looking him in the eye, his dark green eyes staring at him menacingly. "But as long as THEY two exist, death sounds more like an act of mercy" garcello points to MOM's sign and walks off down another alley. Updike looks at the sign and thinks what did these two did that would make a genocide sound like a merciful act?.

Here's a fun story I made up Garcello used to work for T.G.G before eventually retiring and picking up smoking to try and forget all the pain he caused to anomalies. After 12 years Updyke and Garcello meet again and decide to catch up. Updyke constantly tries to get him to come back but Garcello keeps refusing as he's become a "pacifist".
Updike: "Have you seen a bomb humanoid anywhere around here?" Garcello:"Oh, you mean Whitty? Yeah, he just went downtown with Deez." Updike:"Deez who?" Garcello:"DEEZ NUTS! *uncontrollable wheezing laughter* HA! Got 'eem!"
Updike:*has Whitty cornered* Garcello, about to possess Updike because he owes Whitty a favor:"I'm going to do something that's called a pro-gamer move"
I have this theory Garcello is not human. He is just some sort of messenger ghost who, goes around in human form, sending messages of what is right, and when he thinks his time is up as a saboteur human, he sabotages his body, and mortally kills himself. But because of his aura of smoke, his body somehow disappears, and when he really thinks it's time to leave the one/s he met, he fades, probably to do his missions of, I don't know, sending messages like Hermes. That's probably how he faded from his own mod, and how he goes to Updike's HQ.

After fading away Garcello comes back and realise that "curse" Daddy Dearest put in him make him kinda "imortal", due to the fact Garcello comes back alive with more urge to smoke after all "death" he has, wich caught Updyke's attention to find him ask him "questions"
Updike looked reflexively at the gun in his hands, he really didn't want to do this but it was for the greater good, if he let whitty live it would only be a matter of time before people got hurt, he was created for that after all, he sighed and started walking through the alleys, according to the residents he frequents this place, it wasn't long when he saw smoke coming out of one of the alleys, he immediately ran towards the alley, if he didn't kill whitty before it exploded the whole city would explode, he took out his gun and pointed to where the smoke was coming from, he was puzzled when he saw that it wasn't whitty but a homeless man who was smoking, the man immediately raised his hands and spit his cigarette on the floor.
"They're common cigars I swear," he said hastily.
Updike lowered his gun and sighed, it was a relief that it wasn't whitty in this situation, he holstered his gun and addressed the homeless man.
"Sorry about that, I thought you were someone else" the hobo sighed in relief and pulled out a pack of cigarettes and took out another putting it in his mouth lighting it, he looked at updike and offered him one, updike denied the offer and garcello shrugged and put the pack away.
"May I ask who exactly you're looking for, maybe I can help you, you'd be surprised how many people come through here." Updike thinks about it for a moment, if this man has been here constantly it's possible he's seen whitty.
"Have you seen a tall guy with a bomb head recently?" The homeless man blanches at the question, it's obvious he saw him, though he doesn't know if he freaked out because he's his friend or because he did something to him.
"...What exactly did he do?" Updike doesn't know how to answer in a way that doesn't sound cruel, but it's best to warn him of the danger so he'll talk to him in case he sees him.
"Legally nothing...but his own existence represents in danger to this entire city." The homeless man is speechless, he looks like he wants to say something but can't, he repeatedly smokes his cigarette and seems calm enough to formulate words.
"...isn't there some way to stop that from happening?" Updike shakes his head and garcello looks mournfully at the ground, he smokes his cigarette again and looks at the sky, the golden glow of dawn reaches his eyes, he sighs and lower his head and see one sign with a Picture of mom and dady dearest. "Then I haven't seen it" he says simply, removes the cigarette from his mouth and throws it on the floor and steps on it to put it out.
"Do you realize the risk you put everyone at risk just to protect him?" Putting thousands of lives at risk just to protect one, how selfish was this guy?.
"I know exactly the consequences of what I'm doing" the drifter replies looking him in the eye, his dark green eyes staring at him menacingly. "But as long as THEY two exist, death sounds more like an act of mercy" garcello points to MOM's sign and walks off down another alley.
Updike looks at the sign and thinks what did these two did that would make a genocide sound like a merciful act?.
It was a cold and rainy afternoon. Updike was in the alleyway, still searching for his old ”friend”.

He was started by a voice that came from behind him. It was an old looking man. He had teal green hair and held one cigarette. He ignored the man and continued his search.

Here's a fun story I made up
Garcello used to work for T.G.G before eventually retiring and picking up smoking to try and forget all the pain he caused to anomalies. After 12 years Updyke and Garcello meet again and decide to catch up. Updyke constantly tries to get him to come back but Garcello keeps refusing as he's become a "pacifist".

I have this theory
Garcello is not human. He is just some sort of messenger ghost who, goes around in human form, sending messages of what is right, and when he thinks his time is up as a saboteur human, he sabotages his body, and mortally kills himself. But because of his aura of smoke, his body somehow disappears, and when he really thinks it's time to leave the one/s he met, he fades, probably to do his missions of, I don't know, sending messages like Hermes. That's probably how he faded from his own mod, and how he goes to Updike's HQ.
