Don’t think the brand has the same cache now that Eddy’s not personally involved in the company, and as you say Dave, simply adding his name onto the bikes doesn’t necessarily carry that much weight with modern bike buyers. The bikes themselves do look very nice nonetheless, or at least the metal ones do.
Merckx has not been involved for many years before covid. He sold the factory in 2008 and it became part of the Ridley brand (Belgian Cycling Factory) in 2017. The carbon bikes are basicaly Ridley Noah frames mpdified with the s-seat stay that's typical for the Merckx brand. The steel Corsa bikes are just for Merckx. Ridley doesn't offer any steel bikes. Guess they want to put the brand in a more 'boutique' marketing niche. They look really good though. I'm considering a Corsa Pévéle as my next 'road' bike. Currently own a Ridley Kanzo Fast.
I ride a 525, and they still have that unmistakable Merckx feeling of old. I am biased, but I like it, and in ways it feels similar to previous Merckx bikes I've owned, and it is noticeably different from my Ridleys (I'm a fan of Belgium geometry). All of that said, I think he gets things correct in the video. I'm not interested in tires beyond 28s, but it is more and more common to see 30s on the road. It is stiff and efficient, handles great like most Merck's frames, while also being very comfortable. It is so comfortable that I have to remind myself to stand every now and then (that rear stay works). The only negative is the weight. It does not ride heavy, but it is not exactly the lightest bike in my stable. Fully built up with campy chorus, bora WTO 45s, look pedals, and my heavy preferred seat, my size large bike weighs in at about 17.4 Lbs. Merckx Bikes of late offer a lot at their price point.
While I'd still love a retro steal Eddy Merckx bike, these new bikes don't offer any reason to buy them other than the name on the downtube. Nice video, none-the-less.
Thanks. I do think it's a brand that will appeal to a certain demographic or to those who like its look. It'll be interesting to see how they market the brand again - Dave

I'm interested in steel gravel bike, but do you know where those are made and what kind of tubing they're using? I mean those cheaper, not those custom builds.
@@VeloVeloVeloTV thanks, so probably not Reynolds or any other higher quality triple butted tubes. Then, my first choice remains as Ritchey swiss cross.

Shoddy, you're top dog in the TH-cam cycling channel world as far as I'm concerned. You never disappoint!! Luv'd this vid.
Cheers, Pjw
Thanks for the super kind words. I'll keep the vids coming - Dave
Nice work. Fair assessment of the brand and its place in today’s market. Nice watch too.
Thanks for watching. Cheers Dave

Would love to go the gravel bike as everyday on top of dirt riding. Shame not sold in the USA. Bikes to honor one of the greatest ever.
Eddy is still the best whether or not the modern peloton can appreciate him.

The steel Corsa Strasbourg is handmade in Belgium with Columbus tubing.

Love your videos shoddy, but………Eddy is THE GOAT.
8:57 They need to learn how to paint a bike. Look at the orange-peal finish on the dark blue section. I've done better myself at home with spray cans.
They look like less attraktive versions of Ridley´s bikes. Not a surprise as the brand is owned by Ridley.
28mm is the new standard with it going to 30 and 32mm soon.. 28mm is not outdated pal.
Outdated, no, but give it a year, and I think it'll be the new 25, Hehe. - Dave
Outdated, no, but who want to spend a few thousand on a bike that is physically limited to 28s? Might as well have released a rim brake bike.

28mm the 525 is not going to succeed as a model unless they address that.
That's why I think they'll be an updated race bike later in the year. We will see - Dave
Steel and Ti bikes look nice. Drop Eddy from the brand name.

The ti is lovely, very, very lovely. - Dave
To bad they don't warranty their frames. Buy a brand that does.
Wtf are the rear stays about . In fact there hurting my eyes take it away! 😩
Belgium - The heartland of cycling.......Apart from MTB.....which they're pretty ignorant about.
Fair enough, for road cycling, it's unquestionably the heartland. Cheers Dave
Prices.........way overpriced

A lot of rim brakes.....
Oh yes. Thankfully. The Corsa range is lovely for that - Dave
