OMG! I completely forgot I had this with my Hordak figure as a kid. Yeah, the original slime was translucent and had this sweet soapy scent. Thanks for the memory.
I had this as a child, and I loved it! They don't make toys like this anymore, and that's a shame. Getting messy and putting figures in torturous situations. Worth it!
I bought this at a vintage toy store in 2001 for $30...I been looking in the garage for it for 10 plus years...I have a feeling it was thrown away at some point by my parents..along with my 30 plus figures and a few vehicle's...so now I'm starting to collect again...great job...you are the best my friend..thumbs up as always....cheers from California...
"I have a feeling it was thrown away at some point by my parents..along with my 30 plus figures and a few vehicle's" Heard that story so many times. I can only hope those stupid parents realize how much the stuff they tossed was worth.
I work in Boat restorations and love watching your work. I would recommend getting some 2 ton epoxy to really weld those plastic pieces together. Works great and is as neat as glue... Anyways... keep em coming!
On Mattel's shop site you may still be able to find the Ghostbusters Slime they released for the Movie. It's the exact same stuff that was originally used in the Slime Pit so that would give you the best results
My story about the Slime pit. I had been asking for the slime pit for a long time after seeing the commercials on TV and had come to the conclusion that I wasn't gonna get it when it wasn't under the Christmas tree that year. So along come my Birthday in August and my parents gave me the Slime pit!!! So my friends at the party and myself get pretty psyched up about it and wanna try it out. So we get it all set up and put together, Heman figure in place with the claw and I open the slime container and instant disappointment. Inside the slime container was a real toxic cesspool of green water and black clumps. Come to find out my Mom had found the Slime pit on clearance after Christmas and had hidden it in an old trailer we used for storage on our property. So apparently slime doesn't like being frozen, thawed. frozen again, with the winter weather and then sat in there in the summer heat until August. I ended up having to wait for about a week to get a new can of slime from the store next time we went to town. It was a long wait to experience the Slime pits awesomness. After I got some new slime I soon found out that you really shouldn't put Moss Man through the Slime pit, he was never the same.
Stinkor was unfortunately rejuvenated by the slime when I put him through 'the treatment'. Mum exiled him to live between the window and screen outside until he calmed down again
I think the issue with the slime (as you illustrated at the end) is you’ve essentially got a ‘noise putty’ rather than slime. A good slime for this playset would be one that is (normally) translucent as they are normally runnier slimes. Also one that’s a bit sticky do it doesn’t fall through the skull in one blob.
if ever you're working with lego, you can try putting a bit of acetone on the lego piece and a little on the part you'd like to stick it to, then press the two together. acetone melts lego and most plastics, so when you push them together it creates a chemical weld much stronger than glue.
Glad to see more stuff going on thats not Action Man or StarWars toys, both of those are great but some more variety is a good thing as the 80's were full of lots of great toy lines
Dollar stores in the states usually have great pouring slime. Sometimes they rip easily but they usually are a great continuous pour. If your pound shops are like our dollar stores check them out. Great restoration by the way. I just bought a slime pit off eBay in the middle of watching this to have a go myself.
I just discovered a type of slime being sold right now (2018) at Dollar Tree stores in the USA. It’s only one dollar per canister. I bought some to test, and it’s just the right amount of drippy for the slime pit. I’m going back to buy some more. They come in little plastic cans with a sticker on top that just says “slime“
It had a weird sort of smell, kind of like a mixture of play doh and Crisco. We had yellow shag carpet and my dad would always say "Who's been eating on the carpet again? Somebody was eating cereal in here, there's little green bits all over the rug."
Impressive as always! I wish there was a slightly easier fix the tab (even if it doesn't look as good). I don't have the snips, lego part, small file, or putty... but I might have to invest if I can't think of anything else.
Wondering if anyone can help, I just got one of these, and the peg on the skull, the bit that actually sits on the bit Toy Polloi fixed is broken, wondering if theres a way to fix it.
love the slime pit, i've got a wind raider with broken wings and don't really want to glue them in place, has anyone got any idea of how to fix them, love the videos dave
@@toypolloi I re-watched the die cast Eagle resto vid last week, now all the classics are popping up in my feed! The three-part Optimus Prime episode is calling me now!
I just noticed today that one of the clips on my personal Slime Pit is broken...then randomly this video pops up into my list, coincidence? Me thinks not.
Older post I know but you should try to get your hands on a slime called Silly Sludge, I don't know how easy it will be to get in the UK but in the US most Walmarts carry it as do most Family Dollar stores (don't know if you have Family Dollar where you are though).
Love your videos on Masters of the Universe restorations. I wish you had a video on fixing the button on the Masters of the Universe Laser Bolt. Mine has been stuck for about 20 years and I have no idea how to go about restoring it.
Yeah, the starchy stuff that is commonly called "slime" in the 21st century is extremely different from the drippy stuff that we called "slime" in the 80s.
I love it that you had to speed up the film to show the slime flow and that it was STILL too slow! :) I think cheese curdles faster! Hahahahahaha The Japanese make some good hobby product but this is not one of them...
Really nice vid. For good slime I'd recommended a solution of PolyvinylAlcohol (PVA) and Borax. There are loads of recipes for this and the PVA may be a little pricey but both can be picked up on ebay, it's completely safe and you can add food colourings to make whatever colour you like. If you want the slime to be runnier then you should add some acid, I think distilled vinegar should work but I've always used hydrochloric acid.
i still have a motu slime pot.i had keep it seal during about 20 years until open it.the untouched slime had became so really liquid and really, really sticky that it's unusable.sniff! :(
I have been using Clay, Super glue & Baking, Soda to fix my stuff. I made new tabs Out of Super glue,Clay & baking soda. Shape the clay first make sure it works. cover it in super glue. then Add baking soda to Harden it. Just have to put paint over it. I made some new parts too from the clay too. I tested it out to see. what would super clue & baking soda do to clay. It hardens it. Most of the time it can be fix. Even if it is Plastic thanks to new methods.
The problem from slime that when it gets older it starts to get really hard it stops becoming gooey same thing happens with the Ninja Turtle sewer playset that ain't brought slime that look like mutagen
OMG! I completely forgot I had this with my Hordak figure as a kid. Yeah, the original slime was translucent and had this sweet soapy scent. Thanks for the memory.
@@chestercopperpot777 lol. oh, Yup! every now and again that smell pops up in something & I remember the slime too!
Me too! Wow

when I was a child I used to put my hand inside my sleeve and pretend the claw was my hand lol
great video mate :) it brought back a lot of memories
That would have been cool to do. Nice idea.
I done that with the fright zone puppet. It would give girls a fright haha.

so nice to see that these toys are ending up in collections and not in plastic waste dumps
It looks really great as a repair

brilliant restoration toy polloi. I to wish I had the slime pit when I was child.

a great piece I may do just that toy polloi.

+daniel pepin Great story. At least you got it in the end.
The heat and cold created a violent reaction, destabilizing the chemical bonds of the slime.
Stinkor was unfortunately rejuvenated by the slime when I put him through 'the treatment'. Mum exiled him to live between the window and screen outside until he calmed down again
My Grizzlor was also not amused as he got punished in the Slime Pit.
I wish you'll do a Webstor backpack repair :) Great channel by the way.!
Good stuff dude glad I could help!
Well, look at it this way: that newer slime in its original state doesn't mess up the figures at all, and works well for still display!
Thanks for the video. Mine is broken in the same exact place. I'll go find a lego piece to fix it.
+RedSoxKal The fix worked well. Good and strong. Good luck.

What is miliput? Like if I'm going to look for something like it, what generally am I looking for?
It's a two part epoxy modelling clay.
Ah memories of that cold moist strange smelling 80s slime, got everywhere and then dried to a crust in your carpet lol
Yeah, I can still smell it when I think about it. Much more of an all olive color and runnier than the stuff he used here.
It had a weird sort of smell, kind of like a mixture of play doh and Crisco. We had yellow shag carpet and my dad would always say "Who's been eating on the carpet again? Somebody was eating cereal in here, there's little green bits all over the rug."

great project!

I know I'm not alone in saying it, but look up Mattel Slime! Awesome restoration, and another excellent use of lego!
+Anthony Karklus I'll check it out. Thanks
As always..great job and another toy saved :)
You have to knead the slime like on the old Slime Pit instruction sheet. Otherwise it will tend to lump up as a slow-dribbling mass of blob.
Have you thought about 3D printing the missing pieces you need?
amazing
Did you know if you sprinkle baking soda on wet crazy glue you can fill any gaps at the contact point?
Wondering if anyone can help, I just got one of these, and the peg on the skull, the bit that actually sits on the bit Toy Polloi fixed is broken, wondering if theres a way to fix it.

?was there a story about the pit? Is this a punishment? Or just a toy?
The benefit to the thick slime is that it is presumably easier to clean off the action figures.
It is. You can just pick it off in one lump. Made if very easy to clean up after filming this.

I seem to remember the slime coming out the nose holes of mine. can anyone confirm?
I believe mine did too.
Toy Polloi do u know Glenn Webb? He introduced me milliput first. I miss him :(
+Marvel Section I do. He was an early supporter of mine. Very sad.
What color red I can’t find. Red 423 in America ?
There are conversion charts online that will convert humbrol numbers to other makes of paint. Check those out. Cheers
Thanks so much

Ha ha. True.
You Could try to thinning the slime by adding its chemical Base component.
Great video

Poor Beastman, 2 times in the Slime Pit :D
brilliant again. Do you ever bother with Real Ghostbusters toys?

One thing I've noticed about Toy Polloi - when a toy is a little bit dirty, he tends to say that it's 'absolutely filthy'

here's an idea; use gelatin w/o an emulsifier, and green food colouring; just like the 'trash can' slime from the 80s!
2:07 HOT SOAPY WATER.
Poor Beast Man 😢
A toy gimmick I could never really fathom. Left an oily residue on figures as I recall. Not a fan. Now Castle Greyskull, there was a playset!
Lego a toy repairmens best friend great repair and video get slime from the pound store or dollar store here in the states it works great
You can make slime using Elmer's Glue there is a recipe I saw online
Lots of things on google as to how to get homemade slime usually liquid soap etc
Use the slime from the 200x slime pit
My kids make super runny slime with Elmer's glue.
Honestly don’t know if they make that kind of slime anymore cause it ruined plastics and possibly other stuff back then I really don’t know🤔
You need a Dremel.would have been easier to make the original tab
Faster Better
