The night before Elvis' funeral James Brown asked the family if he could have some time alone with Elvis. He sat by the coffin for hours talking to Elvis, praying, and singing gospel songs they used to sing together. He truly loved Elvis as his brother.

Elvis never took street drugs, he was dead against that. He had many hereditary health issues, so he took prescription meds. He had glaucoma, high blood pressure, suffered from insomnia, a liver defect, severe colon problems. His mother also died in her 40's. Very nice reaction. I enjoy your enthusiasm. The lady he bought a house for was his housekeeper. He also bought her two cars and jewellery. He was colour blind, and loved all people.

BB King said he knew Elvis very well and that he did not have a racist bone in his body. I don't know if they have spoken about this but when he was touring and was going to stadium's they told him he could leave his backup singers at home(Because they were black) and Elvis was like Um no I just won't come. It had something to do with the cars they were going to ride around the stadium in. And he made she sure the backup singers ended up riding in the first car. He wanted everyone to get along and was trying to lead by example...Also he was known for buying cars and houses for those in need. Or paying a hospital bill when needed. All races.

Elvis bought homes and cars for many many many people, even strangers, also paid their medical bills, bought equipment for the disabled, played countless charity concerts with all the funds going to charity throughout his whole life and career.
He was in the highest tax bracket but never once took a write off tax break or exemption for anything including his charitable work.
He always said he was the luckiest and most blessed person on the planet and felt he needed to pay for that privilege and needed to give back for all that he'd been given.

Elvis never said any negative things about black people. He grew up playing with black children. An interview with one of his black childhood friends is interesting to watch. Mr Sam Bell was interviewed before he died in 2021, and said there was no racism in Elvis or his parents. The comment about shine my shoes, has been proven false. Elvis had never even been to Boston, where some guy told the magazine that happened. Also in the Sam Bell interview, he told about the peanut butter and banana sandwiches that Elvis’ mom made for the neighborhood kids.

Regarding the rumors about Elvis saying that blacks were only good for shining his shoes. Sepia magazine reported that he said that & when the sources were questioned & the details that Sepia Magazine provided were determined to be false, the magazine folded. The investigation was led by Ebony Magazine & published in a copy of their magazine.

  • @depper
    @depper ปีที่แล้ว +33

OK I researched the story about the “shine my shoes” accusation. It never happened.
The "racist" rumor was started by a white owned music magazine named SEPIA written for the Black community that had an agenda. The goal: To tear Elvis' reputation to shreds before he got any more popular and spread black music around the country, through the suburbs and countryside, aka white America.
JET magazine did an investigation and found the rumor to be a complete fabrication.
Those words went against Elvis entire being. Elvis was like Eminem but on a much deeper grass roots platform.
Elvis opened up doors that noone else could have opened, nor wanted to open at that time. He shook the world.
Bottom line. None of the black folks that hung around Elvis ever believed that accusation. It didn’t make any sense.
He donated far too much of his time and money for black owned businesses and causes. He worked with and hired Black people and black musicians to all types of positions. He paid for Jackie Wilson’s medical expenses.
He raised money for poor black children that were starving.
He played with and sung gospel with black children during his entire youth, and 10 years in black churches around the south.
It just simply doesn’t make sense. That wasn’t Elvis Presley and everybody around him knew it.

It was wearing on him , however ... he employed so many people and felt the desire to help everyone he could ... he couldn't stop working . Elvis had a multitude of physical problems ... his drug problems stemmed from prescription abuse not street drugs ... that's another long story that makes his story such a sad one !

Who knows what Elvis REALLY felt privately about the fame and what comes with it, but,in an interview, he said that without the fans' attention, he would probably miss it. He said it was just part of the business, and he accepted it. You will NEVER find a picture, video, or even hear a story where he was mean to fans or refused autographs, within reason, or looked or acted annoyed with the attention. The fact that he insisted on looking his absolute best every time he was seen in public proves that he understood the game.

Elvis supported blacks and got a lot of heat for his style of music. It wouldnt be unheard of for whites that didn’t like his promoting of black culture and jealous blacks to try to put a riff between Elvis and black people. Racist will want to believe he doesn’t like blacks and blacks won’t want other blacks to like him so false rumors will be created. Look how people are labeled racist today for politics. It’s powerful and can come from thin air. I think anyone who has follow Elvis can tell he wasn’t the type to think that way. He got a lot of heat for his ties to blacks that he could have easily avoided if blacks didn’t mean anything to him. He had his pick of artists and could have went with all white people and had less of a head ache. But he didn’t and did the right thing because he believed it!

Elvis never said a racist word about anyone and his best friends as a child were all black, with Sam Bell being the leader of the group Elvis hung in. And they would always sneak in the movies together and Elvis would climb over the barrier that was supposed to separate blacks and whites so he and Sam could always be together. While as an adult, his best friend was the awesome singer Jackie Wilson; also a black gentleman. In fact, when Jackie had his career ending heart attack, Elvis not only paid the hospital bill, but the nursing home bill for the rest of his life. Before Elvis was famous, and 18, he also helped Johnnie Bragg of the Prisonaires (a group formed in prison) record their top hit 'Walkin' in the Rain.' Johnnie had a bad stutter and Elvis a very slight one, so he understood, so he mouthed the words to Johnny when he cut the hit song after they had practiced together for about an hour. He'd also visit the group in prison to offer help with legal expenses, etc., when few whites would do such things. Elvis also recorded 'Crying in the Chapel' in 1960 and the black singer Carol Fran had a hit with it in 1964. Unbeknownst to Elvis, however, they released his version of 'Crying in the Chapel' from 1960, in 1965, and it became a huge hit and knocked Fran off the charts. So, when she later saw him she kiddingly said something about him knocking her off the charts, and he really didn't get it and was confused and also felt bad. So, he gave her a $10,000 check to apologize. Elvis was also best friends with Muhammad Ali, and when they playfully squared off in Elvis' suite, Elvis leg swept Ali knocking him to the floor, but everyone laughed as they were such good friends. That is the time, too, Elvis gave Ali a new boxing robe worth thousands that said the "People's Choice." There are so many cool stories! And, a lot of them are in newspapers so you know they are basically legit. Such as the time in the 60s when a white worker came to Elvis' house complaining that Elvis had replaced him with a black worker. With Elvis trying to patiently explain that the black gentleman had the job first and the white guy was only hired to fill in for him until the black gentleman returned. However, this didn't sit well with the white jack ass and he eventually started cursing Elvis and even used the 'N' word, something you never did around Elvis. So, Elvis dropped the guy like a bad habit and the cops came and took him away. lol
I think Elvis was just about the greatest singer, too, as he could sing every genre, really awesome, which few if any can do. But aside from the singing, the stories - like above about him - made him like a modern-day superman. Such as the time he bought 30 Cadillacs for family, friends and even strangers all at one time. While he also regularly gave away jewelry, giving Sammy Davis Jr. a $50,000 ring and Red Fox something very similar. And, of course, for his maids, Elvis bought all of them several cars and even homes. He would also read the paper each morning and look for people to help and he one time read a story of a woman who could not walk and actually had carboard on her elbows and knees to get around. So, he found out where she lived and took her the best electric wheelchair money could be; showed her how to use it and also stuffed some cash in her pocket. Then, after walking out the front door, his bodyguard, Sonny West said, "You know, I don't even think that woman knew who you were." To which Elvis replied, "It doesn't matter; all that matters is that she now knows someone cares." He was just off the chain, dope, and I highly doubt we'll ever see anyone better. And, of course, it really doesn't matter, but it's for all these reasons and that incredible voice which makes him the greatest selling artist in history, with a lead that is so huge, he can't possibly be caught. Especially as Elvis still to this day, being gone for almost 50 years, still sells in the Top Ten! Hope you enjoyed the stories and good luck with the channel as well, my friend!
And, if there's anything you wish to know, please feel free to ask!!! Best wishes ~ Chris

Elvis bought her a nice brick ranch house in Memphis... he paid it in full and several years of property tax so she would not have that burden... he personally went out looking for the home... and when the realtor showed him the one he really liked, the doors were locked... he found a side window that was unlocked, he climbed up and pulled himself thru the window and came and opened the door... he also bought her a brand new Cadillac...

Elvis was 6ft tall. The drugs he took were prescription drugs from his Dr. Elvis suffered from bad insomnia & he would stay up all night & sleep, when he could, during the day …. As musicians mostly perform at night, these could be a problem for them, because after concerts, they would obviously be hyped up, & then it would take several hours before they were relaxed enough to sleep. But Elvis had a problem going to sleep, & he also, unbelievably suffered from anxiety before performing, & he would often be doing two concerts a day for 5 weeks at a time, to sold out audiences. So he was taking prescription meds to help him sleep, & then meds to help with his anxiety. Elvis was actually a shy, introvert & he once said in an interview, that the image was one thing, & the human being was another, & it was hard to live up to the image. So he would take prescription medication to sleep (downers) & prescription medication to deal with his anxiety & to give him the energy to get through those two performances a day (uppers), & then after staying up all night, he would then need prescription meds to help him sleep (downers) so it was a vicious circle, & one that many big name performers have problems with. Those narcotic meds are highly addictive, which is why many performers end up addicted to them, & that happened to Elvis.

The rumors about Elvis saying negative things about black people started when a writer for a black magazine wrote a article about Elvis. He mention Elvis was at a certain place and said things. It turned out that Elvis was not at this place and never said things like that. Turn out the writer had something against Elvis. The writer was told by the head of the magazine to apologize to Elvis. This happened in the late 60's. So all the Elvis haters just want to believe it. So Elvis had to carry this false accusations through his life among among other things. James Brown and Elvis were good friends. When Elvis pass James Brown was devastated . He had a private viewing with Elvis talking to him and crying. After so long he didn't want to leave. Brown body guards had to help him to leave.Elvis was a big fan of singer Jackie Wilson. They also were good friends. When Elvis heard Jackie collapse and was in the hospital in a coma Elvis paid all his medical bills. you can check this out on google. There is also a video of Jackie son talking about it. There are alot more stories about what Elvis has done for people.

Great reaction! Rock 'n' roll was created by black performers. Elvis picked up the torch. Love to see black performers take it back! Though bands like Living Colour are a great example of that.

No wonder Elvis liked them so much.... now I feel like I am going to have a heart attack every time i eat one.... but it would be so worth it lol

Elvis singing In the Ghetto is beautiful. Mac Davis wrote the song and asked Sammy Davis Jr. to sing it but he turned it down saying no it's to race specific. Elvis said I'll sing it because he really understood what the song meant. His record company said it was suicide to do that song. Guess what it wasn't.

@Shon great reaction! I don’t know about black in him. Little known fact, he was half Indian. I think he learned ways and tones of blacks because that’s who he grew up with! Oh, he was very ill later in his life heart issues along with other issues. That why he took prescription medication. What the LIVE PERFORMANCE on July 20, 2020 which is his final performance that was just put on TH-cam that day. Yea u will see how ill Elvis was. He died in 1977. The King FOREVER! Thanks fren! 😊

He was raised in Tulpeo. Miss. in the ghetto, and his only friends were black boys so he talked like they did. He loved all people. He joined an all-black revival church as a young boy and learned to sing like the congregation there. Elvis was NOT black, but he didn't mind sounding like he was. All the blacks in Tulpeo loved Elvis.

Shon, Elvis is a very interesting person, many facets, a huge heart for all!!! He was never racist far from it.. One of the reasons some people back at the beginning wanted him banned was because they felt he was too much like the Black Community!! That was Elvis Roots and he wasn't going to change that for anyone, and never did - He was a very religious Man, embraced all religions. You will notice that he wore different religious emblems on his chains and someone once asked him why and he said he didnt want to miss heaven on a technicality - Some of his biggest influences was black people, infact most of his influences was the Black Community and the music they made. Just a bit of info... When Elvis went back to Vegas in 69 one of his back up girls singers was Cissy Houston, the mom of Whitney. After his divorce he had a long term relationship with a Lady called Linda Thompson who wrote the lyrics to I have Nothing (Whitney) those lyrics were with Elvis in mind... And as you likely know Elvis daughter Lisa Marie went on to marry Michael Jackson. Keep digging and watching and you will see what a great performer, person he was its a shame that the media like to play on down sides x

He shared an icecream with his friend who wasnt white when he was a little boy. So no he was not racist and even refused to play at venues if they didnt treat the sweet inspirations with the same respect as all of his band members.

Yes, Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich! Make it buttered on the outside and grill it like a Grilled Cheese. They're SO good! I also love to spread a flour tortilla with peanut butter, put an entire whole, peeled banana on it and roll it up. Kids also like to eat these in lunches and on picnics.

Elvis did not do drugs, he took prescription medications due to real health issues that many people didn’t know about -Sally Hodel a journalist did a ton of research about his health history and found out he had an autoimmune disorder, as well as insomnia, hypertension, glaucoma, arthritis, liver and heart issues-at that time they didn’t have a lot of choices as to what to treat these conditions with and some of them were powerful medications. He did end up taking too many medication but it was in an effort to continue being Elvis.

The "story" of what Elvis supposedly said has been proved a lie. A magazine article claimed he said it on a certain date at a concert in Boston, HOWEVER on that date Elvis was on the other side of the country and he never performed in Boston. It was later discovered the owner of the magazine was trying to destroy the popularity of Elvis in the black community and he partly succeeded since so many younger people believe the lie. The lie has also been repeated a lot by a particular black music producer who wanted the fame of conducting Elvis' band and was turned down since Elvis did that job himself. Jealously breeds ugly lies...

In case you didn't know, his only child, his daughter Lisa Marie Presely, was born exactly 9 months (February 1, 1968) from the time Elvis and Priscilla were married on May 1, 1967. She was conceived on their wedding night. She looked EXACTLY like her father. Unfortunately she passed away 4 months ago. She was married to Michael Jackson and actor Nicholas Cage. She also made 3 albums and toured. I saw her live in 2006.

30 years ago, you discovering Elvis might've never happened because Public Enemy ignorantly stated Elvis was racist, simple, and plain. That turned a generation of young fans against him. He already had a bad rap because of what JET magazine wrote about him being racist when he was blowing up.

Elvis sadly became hooked on the prescription drugs which were prescribed to him by his Doctors. He was very ill. And back then these drugs were just on the market and the side affects were unknown such as how addictive they were. And also at that time there were no dry out centres. Elvis was also like if one helps, then if I take more they will work even better.
Elvis wasn't into hard drugs. he was totally against them. He did once try LSD when married to Priscilla. They sat there watching the fish as if they were watching TV. That was the one and only time. Remember, though Elvis was super talented; he was as human as the rest of us, he wasn't perfect. But he was always under a lot of pressure; so many people were reliant on him for a living. And that wasn't just those who hung around with him. He alone, kept business running, record plants, merchandise companies and many others and still does to this day, some fifty years after his passing. Thanks for reacting to this video. Elvis wasn't racist. TCE

Shon, you know Elvis was a marshall arts athlete, a black belt in Karate. All that stretching thing going down low to the floor is Karate related, required a level of strength and agility to even do those sort of contortions.
Yes, Elvis was imperfect and on a path of drugs, allegedly messed him up and killed him. Many people think it was all orchestrated and that he never died, but needed to get totally out of the lime light, go underground, disappear. Lots of rumors. Like he went CIA rouge. Who knows. His life was a frantic whirlwind. Yes Elvis was married to the lovely Priscilla(still alive)and had a daughter at that point. In fact his Daughter just died, drug related. Lisa Marie.
