    i just use a pallet fork to penetrate beneath the rocks that stick up and pop them out. a lot less destruction to the lawn then what that grapple is doing but you do what you can with what ya got!

      Morning LH! So true. I find that you tend to what you can with what you have. Have a Happy 4th of July weekend!

    Now you went and dug up all your blade sharpeners for the lawn mower. LOL Nice job GP. It's cool all the stuff you can do with these add-ons.

      Hey LA! Yes, several folks told me when I got the tractor that I would find more things to do with it than I could imagine at the time and they were right. Sure beats the old way!! Take care and all the best to you!

    Great grapple work GP! Seems like as soon as you pull up one theres a bunch that come up with it. Mowing is going to be breeze now. You have a beautiful piece of lakefront property there. Gorgeous view. Thanks for sharing!

    Probably a little overloaded @ 6:15 ! It would have looked much safer if you would have kept the grapple lower to the ground. Your machine was looking pretty tippy as the weight came off the rear tires! Keep the loader arms lowered for more stability and greater lift capacities. 😊👍👍

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Mark. I always appreciate helpful advice. Back then, I was still pretty new and have since learned the importance of keeping the load low. And fortunately, without any incidents. But thanks! Always appreciate help as there is still a lot to learn. Cheers and enjoy the weekend!

    I went with the HLA root rake (shorter lower tines like yours) thinking that it keeps the pressure closer to the lower joint vs the ones with the longer bucket tines that seem like the leverage would work against the tractor more for digging up rocks or stumps. Will see when I get it going, can't wait.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey congrats Kingsqueak! Love my grapple. Just a note of caution, if you don't mind me offering: I started getting a little careless this summer as I got more used to using it. You may have noticed I have a few bent tines now and i figured out the reason is because I started applying too much down pressure when picking up rocks. In other words I would close the jaw around the rock, and then I would keep pressing the down pressure on it ( cause I wasn't sure if I had a good grip or not). So the repeated pressure would finally bend a tine when the tine was hitting a side surface of the rock. Hope that helps a bit. I have gone back to being more careful and all is well but thought that might be helpful for you. Good luck and enjoy it!

      @@GPOutdoors Yup caught that, thanks. My tractor is a bit of a tank, went with a Massey 2607h, filled tires, and the HLA RRG66 (it's the one with the dual lid, wanted single but also wanted the heavier rake build too so had to go with the dual clamp) as rocks and heavy raking to clean up a fair amount of aged forestry slash is the main use.

    You weren't kidding when you said you had a lot of rocks. You are becoming a master of using the grapple. A job well done! Thanks for the shout out. Later.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ronnie. This grapple is a "root Rake" grapple - it is designed to push through just beneath the surface to rip out roots and rocks etc. I have learned there are a number of different types of grapples. It works really well for it's design. There are other types I have seen that have much more elongated bottom tines, some are straight and others have a slight curve to them. Some have jaws that arc sharply and others have a more gentle arc to them. Others have an almost 90 degree bend in them. Lots to choose from out there for sure. Good luck on your search!

    I was wondering, I have a 2601 comming, and I watched this about the grapple , what kind is it.. did you install the 3rd function valve , if so what problems did you have ,,and do you have wheel spacers? Thanks much

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning Skeets and congrats on the B2601! I had the 3rd function installed by the dealer and yes, I did install wheel spacers (because I need chains in the winter with the big hills on my driveway). Rimguard in the rear tires and a block heater as well. Hope that helps. Enjoy your new tractor and let me know how it goes from time to time. Cheers!

    Thanks for the B2601 videos; I discovered your channel after deciding that my next purchase would be a B2601, and it's been very helpful. Can I ask for details on that root/rock rake? We're in a very rocky part of Arkansas and have very similar rock issues to yours. Thanks

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day John. You bet . I just dug 4 more boulders out of the lawn today. It is made by HLA Attachments here in Ontario, Canada. It is pretty heavy compared to other models you may find, so you have to consider any impact on overall lifting capacity. It is a "Light Duty Root Rake with Grapple". You will see it on their website. Hope that is helpful and thanks very much for watching and glad if the videos have helped a little. Cheers!

    any chance of you doing a video of your third functioning valve? What it looks like and how your opinion of the install would be? I know you didn't install it but I am thinking of doing one myself and just thought I would ask.

      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day Kevin. Thanks for the questions. I am not very mechanically minded unfortunately however daveknowshow did a series of videos on this very topic. He installed his own 3rd function valve so it would probably be really helpful for you to watch his videos. He is very skilled at mechanics and with tractors. He has some really good how to videos. Sorry I could not be more helpful to you. Cheers and best of luck!

    That one rock at 5:30 was pretty big! Were you worried about the stability of your machine with it? The grapple looks like a fantastic tool!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey good evening Rob! Good question. I always lift slowly and "feel" the tractor as I do things. If the tractor starts to get unstable you can feel it get light on the back or on one side or the other, so I always do things slowly so I can tell if I have gone too far or not. It was good! Cheers and thanks!

  • @goatram1
    @goatram1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You and your friend need a project this coming winter. A Smaller Rock Grapple! Only 3 tines wide on the bottom and a 2 tine wide Thumb. Use the Hydraulic Cylinder and hoses from your present one. (easy to swap back and forth) They sell the mounting Plate for $150US. Make a pattern of your tines. Cut and weld it up. You won't tear up so much grass. Should be able to lift about a 2 to 300 lb larger rock and you would have an easier time getting to the rock due to the smaller foot print of the grapple.

    You did a nice job. So is your grapple really a root rake that is sturdy enough for those large rocks and what brand is it? Thanks for the video.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael. It' a beast. It is a root rake. After 2 years I have bent two of the tines a bit but easily corrected. I have hauled out so many large granite boulders from the earth, among other things. To be honest I have never used a different brand but I love this thing. It's heavy, mind you, more so than the other carbon steel models. It is made by HLA Attachments here in Ontario. They have a website. This s the "Light Duty" Root Rake Grapple model. Thanks for watching! Cheers!

    At some point (pardon the pun) you might want to think about welding some T-1 round stock to the bottom of the grapple teeth to extend their life.
    Are you planning to get a mid deck mower as well?

      Good morning Ronald. Thanks for the question. It is an HLA Attachments unit and it's their "Light Duty Root Rake with Grapple" - 60". You can find it on their website, along with the specs. They make different sizes too. I bought it from my Kubota dealer but you can also get it from Farmer equipment Sales if you live in Canada. Cheers and best of luck!

      @@GPOutdoors goodmorning and all the best to you too. thanks for the reply gp. we have a saying here. hind sight is 20/20. the extra weight of the 60"grapple is just a little extra ballast for you when you have a heavy load on the rear. but i see your point it detracts from your front load capacity a tiny bit. cheers

      Each pound of grapple weight is one less payload pound your hydraulics can lift. We are trading our BX2680 for a B2601. Since grapples are designed to lift from the center and my grapple is a 48" with more than ample hydraulic pressure we will be keeping the much lighter 48" grapple for the 2601.

      Hey good evening KC! So true - every rock is a mystery until I start digging. :)) It is a medium - sized lake. I am in the bay of the lake so you can't see the main body of the lake, which is nice. Every morning and evening, many folks are out fishing here in the bay. The water turns to glass in the early morning and late evening - really beautiful. Cheers and thanks as always ! Have a great week.

    Isn't if funny how you get an attachment and think of the projects you can do with it. Then the more you use it, you realize there is so much more than can be done with it. You pulled out some nice size rocks. The root rock also did a minimal amount of damage to the turf. Getting rid of those rocks will cut down on the mowing time.

    Do you see any advantage to the 2650 instead of the 2601?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day Lew. Yes I do for sure. Not sure how much you have looked into the specs but if you can afford the extra amount, then it is certainly a good tractor, from my perspective. Heavier, a couple of inches more clearance, lifts more etc. For what I needed to do here, I decided the extra lifting power and capacity etc of the B2650 was not worth the additional cost to me. Plus I wanted to be as thin as possible (but still have enough capacity) to be able to wind through the forest easily. Here, the cost difference was material enough to consider however if I had more budget I would have probably purchased the 2650. 100% happy with the 2601 to date but as many folks say, you should always buy as much tractor as you can afford, tempered of course by what types of things you will need to do and size of your property. Also, because of the work I do a lot in the forest, I did not want a cab, however if I did not have the forest to work with and had a reasonably open property, I definitely would have considered the cab option because it sure gets cold here in the winter. LOL ( and the cab is only offered on the 2650).Hope that helps a bit. Good luck with your decision. Let me know how it goes. Cheers!
