Down home oh down home there used to be rivers and trees Fresh bread every single morning and sweet magnolia in the breeze Oh fishing lines and young dreams oh I hear them calling to me But there's no way to get down home cause down home's just a memory Wish I could leave this big town city living ain't living to me But there's no way to get down home No you can't retrieve it cause once you leave it oh down homes just a memory Down home oh down home
Vegas.Bound Despite everything, I think that he and Jeannie WERE mostly happy for the most part for a long time. No marriage is perfect, and no-one really knows what goes on ‘behind closed doors’ but there is no doubt that Dean loved his kids, and enjoyed being a family man. I also personally feel that he also loved Jeannie ‘in his fashion’ , after all they DID stay together for 24 years, despite his philandering ways. And she certainly must have loved him because even after he divorced her, when his marriage to Catherine fell apart after just a couple of years, Jeannie still took him back despite all the heartache he must have caused her over the years. And though they never actually remarried, they did stay together for the last years of Deans life, until he passed on. As much as I love Dean, to my mind Jeannie was a very special, tolerant and strong woman, and he was lucky to have her in his life.
A lovely, gentle and nostalgic song that recalls A.E. Housemans poem from A Shropshire Lad: ‘What are those blue, remembered hills/what spires, what farms are those? That is the land of lost content/I see it shining plain/The happy highways where I went/and cannot come again.’
I have the 45 RPM record of this song by Dean Martin. If I remember correctly this song was not on any Dean Martin album release. Released only on 45's. It's also included in the huge 4 box set from Bear Family Records though. 🤗 The song Come on down is on the flip side of Down Home on the Reprise 0893 45 RPM record.
