+Serujio96 it's not even a battle of looks, the girls were choosing the actors not because they looked more handsome, but because they looked less like final fantasy characters, kpop guys can look too overboard gay sometimes (not saying there's anything wrong with being gay, it's just an expression)
+Serujio96 I do like their music and music videos, but I still can't tell them apart no matter how hard I try and I gave up that I ever will. I mean one guy can look like 8 different people in just one music video
***** When westerns think of K-pop stars they think exactly of THAT, the skinny anime-looking boybands, so he showed exactly what comes to a western's mind when we think about k-pop stars, I mean seriously go and look at all the most viewed K-pop videos and tell me that those pictures are not an accurate presentation of what we're seeing. There's no point in him showing the masculine side of K-pop stars cause in a western's mind, it really doesn't exist, the other thing is that those girls in the video are out of their poster-boyfriend phase so of coarse they'll pick someone who looks like he won't use their mascara without asking
***** I just googled all of them, and non of them struck me as masculine at all, at most they look as manly as the tattooed chick who's into punk rock, she's definitely not girly but definitely not manly either. some even look like they go to gym at the same time look like they would faint if they cut a nail, their tattoos and 6 pack may make them look manly, but then their faces still look like they could be the poster boys to attract customers at any local gay club. I don't go to the gym so I'm not buff in any way, but unlike them no lesbian would ever question her sexuality if she sees me. I must say I think Big Bang don't look girly at all that's why I have no fear of ever feeling a bit homo watching them, but please remove BTS from that list lol they look gay as fuck and are the definition of the ideal k-pop boyband, the others I don't know them so I just googled their images.
No matter, they all look the same whichever picture they are in.... "Feminine." Western or non Asian women tend to go for masculine men... and I'm talkin about the women, and not girls. Though the young ladies in here seems to go for manly, rugged kind of guys.
+SUJULOVES13 but to be honest with you, i would say most of kpop groups are like that. nicer photos would not make any differences since they all pursue similar styles. no offence, but nice photo of super junior still would not make any difference.
Sooooo. When you gonna remake this video with better picture of the Idols and more feminine actors? Put a picture of an idol alone compared to an actor. T.O.P compared to Song Joongki. Bang Yongguk compared to Lee Jong Suk. Do it. Come on.
The thing is most idols are feminine looking. Top is just one of the rare idol that isn't feminine looking. And vice versa, Most actors tend to be more masculine looking than idols and go for the timeless gentleman style. It's not really that accurate to get a rare example of both groups, compare them & see the results that way.
Claire Riri But thats not true. Most idols aren't feminine looking. Maybe they may not have as strong of features as the actors, but they aren't mostly feminine. There are some that are feminine, but most of them have an average amount of masculinity in their features and same with a lot of actors.
Trigger Warning I guess it's mainly because of the style, but regardless idols in GENERAL tend to look more feminine than actors. Either because of there actual features or the styling.
Seriously? they couldn't find less feminine pictures of K-pop male idols?? XDDDDD I agree that Korean actors are definitely more masculine than Male K-pop idols, but they are not always more attractive. The interviewer kind of lead girls to answer that way... If they would have shown pictures of TOP, Choi Siwon, Taecyeon, Taeyang or Rain representing K-pop and pictures of Song Joong Ki, Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Seungi or Jang Geun Suk representing actors, I'm sure the answers for the question "Who is more attractive?" would have been different.
moochimichimoo I understand the point of the video. I'm just saying they could have shown different type of K-pop idols and different actors... a wider range of men :) I'm 32yo... of course I prefer manly guys, but I only thought two of the actors were attractive :S (Won Bin being the sexiest man on the planet!)... I would have definitely chosen Siwon, TOP or Rain as the most attractive if they would have been there!
IKR?? Like couldn't they choose more sexy or handsome group pictures? I mean yeah they look feminine and girly but that's because the theme or idk what was the reason.. this made me kinda irritated @_@
yiuume Yup, there are Kpop idols like Siwon, Taecyeon, T.O.P (just to name a few) who are masculine but they chose the most feminine pictures... I guess because they knew what reaction they would be getting. If they showed two masculine pictures, then there won't be that much of a varied reaction.
Thos pics were old and like they were younger and these hairstyles were trendy back in 2005-2010.. now they all have better fashion style and hairstyles
They still same in my openion . Colored hairs , make up full face , weird clothes (however they call those as sexy outfits). These are just too unattractive for many westerners . But it's ok since there are many people around the world who loves this kind of style on men . I respect it also .
lol just because they look feminine that doesnt mean they are gay. and dont use old pictures. use the latest one. why? because in the old pictures, those kpop idols are just high schooler and just graduated from high school which means that they're still young. plus the gap of age btw those kpop stars and actors u chose are really different. because all of those actors are above 30 while those kpop stars are still under 30 and even under 25 years old. that's why the actors look more masculine. how abt u chose the actors who is on the same age with those kpop stars? i bet all the girls will also said that they look gay. pffftttt
+JomoWhore But in the west if you dress like that it is perceived as gay and un-manly. It's just cultural. E.G. Koreans see beards as dirty where right now in the west it's manly as fuck to have a beard.
+Benji banjo i'm living in west and i think it's not very bad if guy is a little bit femenim in means of looks because we have that barier of manly guys who's malnines make's them think they are better blinding theire vission on thing you know and are very much ignorent who's pride is amazing, i don't think being open about your sexuality and that type of stuff is good a little bit femenisity from my point of viev will only make relationship better because then such guys respect women and are much loving to them, isn't that most inportant thing?
JomoWhore I agree. But a big part (not everyone) of the gay community act and dress a certain way, and everyone knows it. That's why they connect the way those guys looks like, as 'gay'. But you're right, and irratates me as well. It annoys me that men cannot be feminine without being called gay and things like that.
Guys, stop hating on this channel. They specifically said that the stars presented were recommended by the viewers. And the kpop stars are all looking feminine for a reason while the actors look masculine. They wanted to specifically find out which type was seen as more attractive. No one is trying to make your oppas look bad. Gosh darn it kpop fans and their whining -_-
Don't try to make sense. People want to get mad because they think they know better. Don't you know the world revolves around KPop? *cough* Fangirls like the ones hating on here, are the reason I am starting to turn away from KPop.
nope this video was meant to pick the best photographer :] which photographer can take the best picture that makes the model look hot? there's many different images that kpop stars can have - including manly - yet they chose the worst pictures they could find while choosing the best pictures for the actor... is this not true?
Momoko4ever1 You must be 12 years old or younger. Let me tell you this: profanity isn't going to get you anywhere. You're just making the kpop fandom look bad. It's the fans like you who make us look annoying. Stop.
They are young people that are unaware of the history behind both. Plus they are looking for what they have seen before in their own country which are not k-pop artists.
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 아 개웃기네 근데 배우들이 괜히 배우가 아니죠ㅋㅋ 아이돌들도 잘생겻는데 배우들이 넘사벽.. Keep going Asian Boss, that was just hilarious video, and you guys're on the right track! This is the most intriguing stuff I've ever seen Looooool. Even though the the gap(looks or attractive level.. whatsoever) between the K-Actors and Idol was so much obvious, I'd frankly say those girls definitely have nice eyes when it comes to picking HANDSOME guys.
He did say "which do you find more attractive *as a man*" They were BOUND to pick the actors. They weren't even looking for an attractive guy, at that point. They chose the one who was manlier. This would've been way better tested if the K-pop stars were NOT group pictures (because group pictures give off a teenage vibe), but solo photos instead. And then just ask "Which do you find more attractive?" "as a man" is unnecessary for this video. -_- BUT IN TGEIR DEFENSE, they all looked pretty young in those pictures, so they looked more like boys rather than men. Either way- to each their own :)
+Janet Matsukevich I disagree. Saying "as a man" or not is irrelevant in this current situation, because what he was attempting to display was the way the western mind works. Should a woman find a feminine MAN more attractive, then they would have picked the idol (assuming it's the idol that looks more feminine, this is the case most of the time). But they didn't. Why? Because of gender roles. A man is expected to be masculine. This mindset isn't just ingrained to men in the west, but to women in the west too. It is very difficult to find a woman, that has this mindset ingrained into her, that would choose a feminine man over a masculine man. What he was showing was simply what gender roles cause in terms of attraction in physical appearances.
+Harry P Nass "as a man" imply literally in sexually atractive. I find the kpop idols really good looking, but doesnt mean I'm atracted to them. I find most of them cute, and many women dont think about cute in bed. That doesnt mean everyone think like that, is personal. Plus depending on the age looks really wrong to think about them in that way, even using different pics, many of them look like boys.
+Daehyun Is My SideHoe I suggest they do a re-take of this survey, using one on one shots of kpop guys vs the actors, seriously! And they should use better photos! Re-take please?!?!! I am both a Shawol and a BABY, I am not amused
Sooooo, just why did he/they choose photos of idols in which they either looked like infants, feminine, and/or just the complete polar opposite of the actors. LOVED, the actors but at least make it a fair comparison.
+Jersiey Dono Lol say something that makes sense. The actors ALSO take care of themselves, but they're weren't qualified as ''feminine'' for the foreigners. It's because of they're hairstyles, and most (not all) of the kpop stars have ''feminine'' traits as in ''cuter'' and they also wear a lot of eyeliner (oh please, doesn't take much knowledge and logic to know that a guy applying eye liner appears a lot more feminine''. Also, the foreigners are saying that the kpop actors have more ''manlier'' traits.
Hoàng Vũ well makeup would make anyone look more like a girl, because makeup is mainly worn by women. So we are just used to seeing it women. Remember that makeup was first invented for men by men.
well to be fair, some idols are rocking an almost winged eyeliner and red lip gloss almost appearing like lipstick. It's no wonder they would think he's gay or feminine, because almost only gay men wear make up besides women.
I do think the comparisons were done unfairly, but, unlike most, I don't think the idols were the problem. All the idols pictures (except for B.A.P's) were fine, they were fit for the age group of the contestants. The actors were wrongly chosen; those actors play in dramas targeted to women in their late 20s and older. A better choice of actors would've been actors like Kim Woobin, Lee Jongsuk, Lee Hyunwoo and Kim Soohyun.
I SO AGREE! They should have also showed more masculine k-pop artists as well as more feminine-looking actors. THEN, it would be fair. Age group is a factor as well!! It needed more components for this study.
I honestly think those BAP and JYJ pics aren't doing those guys justice. They didn't choose good pics are those 2 groups. But they sure pick better pictures for the actors. That's so unfair.
Apparently, Asian Boss said somewhere in this comment section that pictures were sent to them by people for the comparisons. Regardless, I think too many K Pop fans are taking this personal. The pictures were more shown to get an idea of how western women think. A lot of K pop stars do have a feminine thing going on with them. It is not even about them picking the right pictures. Why do feminine looking pictures even exist in the first place? Clearly there is appeal behind them in Asian countries. In the west, women like a more rugged look. This is more of a comparison between a more flamboyant and stylized look with a more basic and straightforward appearance without unnecessary flash. Don't necessarily think of it as K pop vs Actors. I think they just put that in the title for views.
DanLuu69 Well, if that is really the point of the video , than it is in no way a social experiment and so, there's no real use to it. Although, someone as obviously close minded as you wouldn't realize that, would they?
Namira Shock lol i was thinking the same thing. i'm all for these kinds of videos but you could tell how biased it was. many kpop idols don't look like that but they wanted to prove some kind of point
There's also the age range of the women. Ofc they wouldn't choose the "feminine" and younger looking ones bc they look like "boys" compared to the actors who look like "men". If they asked younger women (not necessarily teens) they might've gotten diff answers.
+christina murray While these kinds of videos are always gonna end being ''biased' in one way or another, I don't think people's opinions in the west are going to change that much. It is a cultural thing. Most girls in the west don't like ''cute'' looking guys, but rather more mature, sexy ones. While, being young and cute and really popular in Korea.
Toxic Hyper Masculinity is always a hoot to me, like I can't help but wonder how anyone enjoys anything when they're worried about being perceived as feminine. I remember a guy I used to hang out with who refused to put lime in his gin and tonic bc I guess he had the bright idea that fruit was for women, it's a shame that you would miss out on a superior tasting drink bc of that. As a society I had hoped we had progressed enough to realize that this way of thinking is harmful to everyone and that there is zero wrong with having feminine traits but we haven't and I think that's why dating for me has been a bust. I'm not out to date a guy who thinks having bangs are gay, or who would have a breakdown if I asked him to hold my purse. I'm not interested in men who don't think I should pay for dinner every once in a while, or who will whinge at the idea of going shopping, buying skincare products or getting a mani/pedi. And I certainly can't stand a guy who feels that he has to bottle up his emotions because "feelings are for girls", fuck that, it's super basic and boring.
well basically that's what society expect from men . to always be masculine. in some societies is pretty intense. in others is not. usually most of that pressure comes from women .
U picked worst pics for male idols... there are bunch of idols that are manly but u totally ignored it and put like fetus shinee when they were 12, worst JYJ pic there is, most feminine BAP pic ... while u put like best won bin pic. How is this fair? Why didnt u put i dont know shirtless Siwon or Taeyang or some other masculine idol?
Seriously. If they would have showed a picture of SHINee now, and other idols more recent/more masculine photos those girls would have had totally different opinions. They should have showed a picture of Jonghyun from SHINee from his Internet Wars performance...that would have changed their mind about idols being feminine. Haha
MuSicPooL888 its obvious point was to make another dumb video/poll since korea is obsessed with actors beating idols. and of course they picked pics that will make idols lose
lavender rose Yeah, they still wear lots of makeup, but that's all celebrities and models. Even in the US male actors and models and singers wear makeup so that they look good on camera...eyeliner, mascara and foundation being the common cosmetic items worn. I know SHINee wears crap tons of makeup still, trust me. I'm just saying that these days they look a little more like men, and a little less like 12 year old girls.
Lol I won’t lie K pop stars look all feminine to me. Literally ALL of them. I think Asians overall are just obsessed with being cute in a child like/innocent manner
You literally chose the most feminine photos of male kpop idols. Kpop groups consists of varying styles from cute to masculine. The photos selected were bias, so that the westerners would obviously choose the korean movie stars.
I'm Western and 20 years old .. and I always felt more attracted to the ones on the left. You might think it's because I'm into K-Pop, but I've just been into K-Pop for about 8 months and I've always (like since I was 15) been attracted to pretty asian boys. I don't really know why, since I wasn't exposed much to this kind of guys, but that's just the way it is.
Ikr? They're just somehow butthurt because they don't agree with looking delicate or something, but everyone has their fucking own taste in everything. And yes a lot of people like pretty boys, like they could like a cute girls or a mature one. It's PERSONAL shit I don't get the whole point of this video. Also it kinda looked to me like the video wasn't a real comparation but a just a way for them to say ''ya these guys are looking like chicks, we ain't all like that''. Good job as asian butthurt men I guess
Aww kpop idols are so cuuute tho. Stop calling them gay! Why do men that have a feminine style have to be gay??? Wtf i can guarantee that most of the guys in supet junior, exo, bap, etc are straight. The way you dress does not determine your sexuality
exactly. & those are just costumes that they wear on stages & in mvs. what they wear in everyday life is normal t-shirts & jeans or even maybe sweats too.
Sapphire Ocean Obviously, when they say the kpop males are gay, they actually mean that they LOOK gay. They are not really referring to their sexuality but their appearance.
This is a bit of the reason men in western countries have a hard time with their sexuality. If they wear their hair a certain way or dress a bit more clean, women label them as gay. Females complain their guy is not sensitive enough or stylish enough but this is what they have to deal with if they are. Even before I liked kpop I was not ignorant enough to straight up call a guy gay just for how he looks. Sorry but if those guys look gay or feminine then those females look lesbian. There are some idols that legit look feminine like Ren, I will admit but not all. Jeesh. Not trying to be a dumb butt hurt fan but this ignorance people have not only will be about this but about everything. Would not be surprised if they were shown pictures of korean females and the woman said they were too skinny.
+Katarina G. they are feminist, thats the fact.. thats why i cant understand why asian girl so into such a sweet feminist. The real man dont wear makeup, dont apply podwer in face, etc..
+Katarina G. How does being asian change ANYTHING in this context... lol... I love KPop too obviously, but for Girls, especially if you're talking about foreigners, obviously they would prefer ''manlier'' looking men. Yes the K-Pop groups do look feminine, why? because of the eyeliner + haircolors.
+Get lost it's a social construct. Eyeliner was originally invented for men, to be worn by men. It's just that girls adopted it later on, that it become a trend for only girls to wear eyeliner. Korea is a different world of its own. It has high strict education system and a fast growing economy. It's a competitive place. They value looks, wealth, social status, and education far more importantly than other countries.
Ye. I agree completely. I mean, have you seen EXO? Once in a performance, they were on stage and a massive white thing came through so you couldn't see them getting changed but the material was thin and I can't remember who but one of them broke it and all of EXO were shirtless on the stage. I wish I could have been there, at that concert.
Interesting experiment. I myself have written my Master's thesis on the successes and failures of K-Pop breaking into Japan and the US. Looks definitely play a role, sadly, and it's definitely something that the K-Pop industry needs to reevaluate a little more if it wants to succeed in the U.S. market before it's too late. But keep in mind, there are plenty of other defining factors too. Not just looks. I could go on and on, but there's definitely a lot of social experiments to play with these ideas.
Everyone, get over it. So what if they picked more mature looking men over men that had feminine-ish looking faces. It’s true, that Bieber style haircut does make them look no older than 23, which isn’t a bad thing. If i were to answer all of these questions, i would say the actors are more attractive to me. Yeah, he could’ve used different pictures for the kpop idols, but he didn’t. Y’all acting like these girls are completely dissing kpop boys, but they aren’t. They have their opinion, and so do you. Stop getting offended that your favourite boy wasn’t chosen by anyone.
1st; the right side 2nd;the left side 3rd; I like both to be honest. 4th;the left side. prefer actors and K-pop idols to be honest they both are good looking in my opinion.
I am a huge BTS fan but must admit I love seeing them more in jeans and a snapback than in full makeup on screen, they just look more boyfriendish when dressed casually or more masculine (suit and tie).
I don't see anything wrong in this video a lot of kpop idols unfortunately look feminine and young because of the age market they are targeted towards, Especially when they first debut. Although they may not be physically 18 or younger at times they are conveyed with softer images. Even 2pm started youthful because at the beginning they targeted a youthful audience. Also in western culture masculine men have dominated society. Media has promoted more rugged men for ages and it almost seems normal to think that men with clear skin or makeup are frail or feminine. Yet in Asian countries like Korea and Japan they are a little more accepting however I wouldn't go jump the gun and think all women would find a "flower boy" sexy or masculine. It ultimately boils down to personal preference and that has nothing to do with what country you were raised in. It may hurt to realize that your favorite group may not be perceived the way you think but that's part of liking something foreign or not culturally integrated into society. So just suck it up and move on.
In western media, the kpop groups would be marketed to young girls, ages 5 - 14. They would most likely be on a disney channel or nickelodeon series to further provoke that. And the actors, would be used to market toward girls ages 17 - 27 That's where the cultural differences come in But can you imagine? " Hi we're SHINee and you're watching Disney Channel! "
I'm a girl, European, straight and... Yes I find that some men on the right was better looking than the ones on the left, but I also think that wearing make up or rings and stuff aren't just women things. If a man is handsome, is handsome period. They were a little bit rude calling them gay, because it seems they used that word as an insult when it's not. Calling someone "gay" has not to be an insult or a label.
it's funny how the west fights for lgbt rights and puts others down when they dont feel comfortable with people being queer and absolutely hate using gay ad a derogatory term, yet here they are, saying gay. I literally cannot understand their mindsets. also, i personally thought both sides were good looking, but my two favourite groups came up; BAP and JYJ so I had to choose them. Plus, Jaejoong, in my opinion, is the modt handsome, most attractive person on this planet. I know I'm speaking in big terms, but not only is he good looking, he is extremely talented. Actually, all of JYJ act too, Yuuchun and Jaejoong act in drama's while Junsu does live musicals. So they are all actors too. I think Yuuchun is credited more for his acting though.
Well, firstly I think he interviews the foreigners instead of the Koreans because being Europeans/westerners, they are open minded and are more exposed to lgbt whereas the Koreans are conservative and the gays there are closeted thus the opinions that were given by these women are more open? We know how the gays look and dress like and I don't think they are putting down the gays or the Kpop boys. They are describing and explaining why they think the actors are more manly and why they think the kpop boys are more feminine that's all. :)
+JakziixRulezz I think you have a point but also i think it's because they're choosing who they are attracted to...and obviously if they are straight women they won't be attracted to what they view as "gay" men. It doesn't mean that they aren't accepting of gays though! Just my thought :)
+Sunny G. i thought that too, if they were gay themselves, they wouldn't call these guys gay, but even if they aren't, you'd assume that they, living in a western country, would at least know that gay isn't an adjective for feminine looking guys. And I'm not even someone who goes out to gay pride events or publicy supports the lgbt community through campaigns and protests. I guess the thing that annoys me the most is that the way they use the word 'gay', is like an insult, something wrong or like a turn off; which is exactly how they feel, but still, there is no excuse to use the word like that. Just my opinion though. Thanks for understanding me!

I totally agree with you on the fact that they expressed it in a negative light. They didn't outwardly explain that it's just not their preference. And yes, I think you're right that gay doesn't mean "feminine" and they should have been more conscious of that!
I agree with the last two but it's weird to me that they kept saying they prefer a less 'girly' look, I find a slightly androgynous look way more attractive. It's clear that all of these guys are attractive but in different ways so I don't think you can judge who is better.
ForCommentingMusic&Etc. :D♥ I'm addicted to kdrama. I love the clichè and sweet relationship between the characters ahah and I love expecially drama where Minho is! And let's talk about Lee Hyun-woo I really can't choose a favourite between them
I agree with the participates in this video. I prefer a more masculine look as suppose to the flashy, cute, and feminine look. Many of the boy band pictures presented have you questioning their sexuality, and for women, this is not attractive nor appealing.
I am a kpop fan and watch a lot of kdrama and kmovies and i have to say I still agree with their choices tho. Gurllllll duh they were So Ji Sub, Jo In Sung, Won Bin and Song Seung Hoon DUHHHHHHHHH
+Hazelyn Lin Pretty much, I thought, okay they could have used the One Shot era pictures, or the Badman era pictures.... seriously.... they chose the Crash era....
I see a lot of K-pop fans being butthurt here. lol I find it sort of amusing tbh. The interviewer made the challenge. Not the girls in the video. Of course they're going to judge people based on a single picture, when that's what they're asked to do in the damn challenge. I actually found this video to be a refreshing surprise. I kinda expected this challenge to be an easy victory for the K-pop guys. Asian guys often look quite young for their age compared to western guys already, so I think it's a good thing that they don't have to wear make-up and try to look even younger simply to attract girls. I would imagine this being nice to hear for the Asian guys out there.
People are mad because the host picked the worst pictures he could find for the Kpop idols especially the last group (JYJ) out of all the pictures they have you pick that one? even SHINee the five guys with the flannel the oldest was around 18 and the youngest was 15 of course they're going to look like kids because they're kids! if he had actually put in some effort to find decent pictures no one would be mad
The majority of people that comes watch these videos are into either k-pop or are into korean guys/girl, the comment section here are very bias towards liking koreans in comparison to the real world. You guys need to go out more and stop living inside your boxes.
I just rewatched this video, and I think enough time has passed that a redo would be good now. Especially because the image of kpop stars is changing and a lot of idols are starting to workout a lot now. If you chose similar profile pictures of actors and idols - the comparison would be more fare too.
yes but, kpop entertainment promote soft masculinity. that push singer to be more left. (they have contract, they cant cut hair out looking ,like what they want) the directors artistic, control all.
are only women allowed to wear make-up? Is a woman who doesn't wear make-up considered not feminine? no! Are only women allowed to wear colorful clothes? Is a woman who doesn't wear colorful clothes considered not feminine? no! Are only women allowed to have long hair? Is a woman who doesn't have long hair considered not feminine enough? no! So WHY does this not apply to men too? " Men with make-up? yuk! Men with colorful clothes? Eeew. Men with long hair? Nope" the list goes on... Don't you notice the unfair treatment here??
Its their own taste, their own preference as a woman, they know what they like, if they are not into k pop idol/ bunch of men with make up , what do you expect then?
Well yeah because different people perceive beauty different ways. For me i'd have to look at the people. When it comes to love, almost always i'll love the kpop group more than the actor. But when it comes to looks....im willing to accept that some actors are just super fine, like Jo Insung, Jung Woosung, Won Bin, and on.
I think ppl in the comments shouldn't be upset on how these women viewed these men, It's their opinion...No one can controll that so its no point in stomping your feet and throwing a tantrum about it. If they believe kpop idols look gay and unattractive (thats their opinion) if u think they look hot and attractive (thats your opinion). I view them as young men that are still figuring out themselves and exploring different looks, Im from the USA and the looks they are exploring are a bit non-boyish more for girls but Its not like I can change the way Korean idols want themselves to look like....so its no point in complaining.
It's true, though, some Kpop idols are so feminine VS Actors, but the pictures they used to compare with idols and actors are so different. Like the SHINee's pictures, they are being cheeky and cute in their picture compared to the serious one. The topic is about who is attractive, of course they'll choose the serious and manly one and the fact that each member of the group have different charisma. Duh!
You should have put masculine kpop stars and Korean actors it would be more fair instead of the groups you picked or different images. Should have put 2PM lol
Seriously. If they would have shown a more recent SHINee picture I can bet that their answer would have a hot different because holy masculinity SHINee is hot. Imagine of they would have used a picture of Jonghyun performing Internet War...I think they'd have a hard time calling that feminine.
But isn't that the point? It's probably their debut picture (from each group), where they are marketed to the public, for the first time. Maybe if we took the SHERLOCK promos, they would play better.
***** Taemin has actually gotten a bit more muscular thanks to his solo debut, but notice that I said I said they should have used a picture of Jonghyun(who I think in terms of looks, is the most masculine member of SHINee.) And yes, some girls would take Taemin over Song Seung Heon...it's called Taemin biases. I myself have always been attracted to slim guys, maybe even slightly androgynous guys, and I have friends who are too. It's all just a matter of personal preference.
That's the thing about society a girl can be a tom boy and a girly girl and guys would think they are both attractive on women but guys can't be well dressed or have their hair done.
Have u seen suga in agustd, taeyang, top, taecyeon, kangin, there are plenty of scary guys in kpop. Btw kim jong kook is a kpop singer. Ummm yeah!!! Sparta is all I have to say! Plus movies and kpop are different. When idols act in dramas they look completely different. BTS's V died his hair black when he acted. But when wing came out he dyed it blonde. It's just what sells in movies don't necessarily work for kpop. On stage kpop has a little bit of theatrical presence hence the makeup, colorful hairs and fleek outfits. In acting they still wear makeup but leans toward less theatrical. If you are playing a doctor it would be strange to wear outfits you wear on stage. I actually find more freedom in performance of kpop idols. Acting and kpop are different genre. You can even compare the same person top for example. When is acting and when he is rapping same person but two completely different appeal. You are comparing apples to oranges.
I hate that Western standard that man need to be masculine to be handsome ! What's wrong with man being feminine ? I think we in the West have some sort of issue ! And OMG the gay remarks ! What's wrong with being gay ? Gay is not a look and even if it was why would it we unattractive. I'm no K-pop fan but seriously, people ! =.= Sincerely from a girl who likes both "types" (with a preference for feminine men).
***** The girls are NOT saying that need to be masculine to be handsome, they are saying that they are hotter than the kpop idols. I get it and I understand is many of the kpop fans feel hurt after watching this video (Im fan of a Kpop ban too) but you have to understand the different points of view, even when I do love Shinee I think they are showing and expresing what most of girls think out of Korea. To be honest, even when Kpop have bunch of fans around the world this is still being a minory, I mean, maybe 5 or less between 150 aren fans of kpop or do like kpop idols. I say his because is the reality, if you have many friends that like kpop thats pretty cool but in my case, I know LOTS LOTS LOTS of people and didnt find anyone yet that like Kpop or are intrest in Kpop idols. When I show a picture to my friends, or when I talk about kpop idols the coments are "They are too femenine", "they are gay", "Wtf are you serious?". But Im pretty sure if I show a photo of an Korean actor they will probably say that he look good. And you say it here, you have preference for femenine guys, so you are kind of admiting that yes and most of the girls out of Asia prefer masculine over femenine (when they like boys).
Honestly I prefer the feminine males. Also, did you even think about how western people are raised? Yes the mass majority of westerners would choose masculine males, but not everyone will.
Kpop fans needs to chill tf out. Not everyone is attracted to the kpop style of guys with soft skin and that kind of hair. I would choose the right ones as well. Everyone has different preferences so chill tf out 🤷
Look most people aren't pissed coz they didn't find them "hot" or "attractive", most of the fans are just pissed how some of the girls in the video said that the idols look "gay" for wearing makeup. Which further pushes the stereotype that straight cannot wear makeup and if they do they will lose their so called "masculinity". And yes everyone has different tastes but don't use that correct statement to push forth that stereotype.
Indeed, the kind of media you're exposed to makes you see things differently. "Looks gay" is such a vague way to describe someone, though. Gay people can be masculine, and straight men can be feminine. And celebs wear make up, male or female. The pictures given for the kpop stars are a bit dated, though, considering this vid was uploaded in 2014. I guess you picked the pictures gearing towards a certain response?
Yes, K-pop stars tend to be more styled in a 'feminine' way, but it depends on the concept. Sometimes they get styled in a more 'masculine' way for photoshoots or for when they do concepts like the 'badass concept.' So they do rock both styles. I also just want to point out that a lot if the photos were old photos, so of course they'd look a LOT younger than the actors. But I do still agree that K-pop stars tend to be more feminine.. There's really only a few stars with bigger bodies and stronger looks in K-pop. (And it's understandable, considering the demographic they aim for)
Looks don't matter. I agree. But if the guy sees potential in himself to make him more attractive, would you stop him and not change his looks and body for the better?
Even though I am kpop lover, I really loved all the pictures of the actors. If I didn't know about KPOP then I'd probably also pick the Korean Actors. They were all smoking hot. That girl at 1:55 is so pretty, her dimple omgosh!!
If you consider yourself a true fan of Asian Boss, become a member of our community to join the cause: asianboss.io
You literally picked the hottest male actors and the most unflattering pictures of kpop stars...
+Serujio96 it's not even a battle of looks, the girls were choosing the actors not because they looked more handsome, but because they looked less like final fantasy characters, kpop guys can look too overboard gay sometimes (not saying there's anything wrong with being gay, it's just an expression)
***** I was just being sarcastic
They could have chosen nicer photos of the kpop groups ... xDD
These were photos the viewers recommend so... But I don't think it would have made a difference if they were recent or not
SUJULOVES13 exactly...
No matter, they all look the same whichever picture they are in.... "Feminine." Western or non Asian women tend to go for masculine men... and I'm talkin about the women, and not girls. Though the young ladies in here seems to go for manly, rugged kind of guys.
SUJULOVES13 ARMYYYY!!!!!
+SUJULOVES13
but to be honest with you, i would say most of kpop groups are like that. nicer photos would not make any differences since they all pursue similar styles. no offence, but nice photo of super junior still would not make any difference.
Not really a fair comparison. Try TOP, Taecyeon, Si Won and Taeyang.
not si won its lee sang hun😂
And Taehyung
Sooooo. When you gonna remake this video with better picture of the Idols and more feminine actors? Put a picture of an idol alone compared to an actor. T.O.P compared to Song Joongki. Bang Yongguk compared to Lee Jong Suk. Do it. Come on.
i totally agree with you
The thing is most idols are feminine looking.
Claire Riri clearly the person wearing heavier makeup is gonna be deemed as more feminine.
"Looks lesbian" ...."looks gay" ....oh boi
When someone don't get it be like xD ( not talking about you)
Is English not her 1st language.
Doesn't she know the difference b/w the two
Bob Mag I think she knows the difference I think she is saying that they simply look feminine and not manly.. some people use that term to state that
Seriously? they couldn't find less feminine pictures of K-pop male idols?? XDDDDD
I agree that Korean actors are definitely more masculine than Male K-pop idols, but they are not always more attractive. The interviewer kind of lead girls to answer that way...
If they would have shown pictures of TOP, Choi Siwon, Taecyeon, Taeyang or Rain representing K-pop and pictures of Song Joong Ki, Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Seungi or Jang Geun Suk representing actors, I'm sure the answers for the question "Who is more attractive?" would have been different.
exactly, the interviewer was biased which already ruined the video
oktaecyoongworld-ac9524 the point of the video is to see whether they prefer the "flower boy" or the "manly"
***** It was me. XD
moochimichimoo I understand the point of the video. I'm just saying they could have shown different type of K-pop idols and different actors... a wider range of men :)
I'm 32yo... of course I prefer manly guys, but I only thought two of the actors were attractive :S (Won Bin being the sexiest man on the planet!)... I would have definitely chosen Siwon, TOP or Rain as the most attractive if they would have been there!
i know right that was so sided
they literally chose the worst/most feminine boy group pictures lmao
IKR?? Like couldn't they choose more sexy or handsome group pictures? I mean yeah they look feminine and girly but that's because the theme or idk what was the reason.. this made me kinda irritated @_@
Exactly. They are trying to please the knetz, I guess. They always hate on idols and think that actors are gods
Seriously. Most of the groups they showed have taken more masculine pictures than the ones they used.
yiuume Yup, there are Kpop idols like Siwon, Taecyeon, T.O.P (just to name a few) who are masculine but they chose the most feminine pictures... I guess because they knew what reaction they would be getting. If they showed two masculine pictures, then there won't be that much of a varied reaction.
true, but it's not only about whose picture it is, even SHINee has better pictures than the one they showed lol
Thos pics were old and like they were younger and these hairstyles were trendy back in 2005-2010.. now they all have better fashion style and hairstyles
BTS SLAY DEM BITCHES yh
BTS SLAY DEM BITCHES this video was made in 2014...
They still same in my openion . Colored hairs , make up full face , weird clothes (however they call those as sexy outfits).
These are just too unattractive for many westerners . But it's ok since there are many people around the world who loves this kind of style on men . I respect it also .
This video was in 2014
this got really offensive really quick
Aiden Wilcock very true
Yeah
ive never gotten triggerd this quick into a video
I got so damn triggered. I just wanted to punch this 50 year old, gross lady with that bad hair and makeup.
Luckily I'm not so offended, coz I have right side guys' look.
lol just because they look feminine that doesnt mean they are gay. and dont use old pictures. use the latest one. why? because in the old pictures, those kpop idols are just high schooler and just graduated from high school which means that they're still young. plus the gap of age btw those kpop stars and actors u chose are really different. because all of those actors are above 30 while those kpop stars are still under 30 and even under 25 years old. that's why the actors look more masculine. how abt u chose the actors who is on the same age with those kpop stars? i bet all the girls will also said that they look gay. pffftttt
ikr seems like he purposely did this
blossem yup..like he really want to show ppl that kpop idol is gay although they're not. lol oh please~~~
+Jung jazle agree!
YES same right here
It's was obviously done purposely to prove a point
Makeup and clothes doesn't make someone gay. Whether you're attracted to the same sex makes you gay. The end.
HelySteam
I'm not saying it's right just how you will be perceived by the majority.
+JomoWhore not the point.
*cough* Fangirls like the ones hating on here, are the reason I am starting to turn away from KPop.
so they picked worst pics on purpose? there aremany pics where idols picked looked manly but they piced feminine pics on purpse
nope this video was meant to pick the best photographer :] which photographer can take the best picture that makes the model look hot?
there's many different images that kpop stars can have - including manly - yet they chose the worst pictures they could find while choosing the best pictures for the actor... is this not true?
Momoko4ever1 You must be 12 years old or younger. Let me tell you this: profanity isn't going to get you anywhere. You're just making the kpop fandom look bad. It's the fans like you who make us look annoying. Stop.
Ali J I agree with you on that. Some fans can be so sensitive and illogical sometimes.
Wow.. judging the comments below, i can tell that most of them are kpop fan .. they triggered easily lol
Tora datang lagi
Yeah I guess so...the video commentators just saying their own opinion .. the neutral zone .I love this video
They are young people that are unaware of the history behind both. Plus they are looking for what they have seen before in their own country which are not k-pop artists.
Like as if they're idol care about them.
I personally just think that they could’ve picked better photos but I understand if people prefer masculine guys
I liked idols when i was under 18 years old. Now i'm 20 and i love movie stars more cuz they look manly, not too much make up.
What the heck 19?! Why they look so much older than me? D: (I'm 21)
I'm shocked too 😂 they look kinda old for being 19 (I'm 18)
+Sherman Stanley they do but even sometimes Asians don't look like there age and they appear to look older :D
Haitani I was looking for this comment...i knew i couldnt have been the only one who overestimated their ages
I like older looks girl tho, coz maybe I dont like weak looking girl, coz I looks weak and young, I want balance 😋

ㅇㅇ틀렸어
He did say "which do you find more attractive *as a man*" They were BOUND to pick the actors.
They weren't even looking for an attractive guy, at that point. They chose the one who was manlier.
This would've been way better tested if the K-pop stars were NOT group pictures (because group pictures give off a teenage vibe), but solo photos instead. And then just ask "Which do you find more attractive?"
"as a man" is unnecessary for this video. -_-
BUT IN TGEIR DEFENSE, they all looked pretty young in those pictures, so they looked more like boys rather than men.
I am both a Shawol and a BABY, I am not amused
the actors look more manly and handsome!!
Sooooo, just why did he/they choose photos of idols in which they either looked like infants, feminine, and/or just the complete polar opposite of the actors. LOVED, the actors but at least make it a fair comparison.
Just because these men look more feminine doesn't mean they look gay. I guess guys who take care of themselves means feminine to them *smh*
+Get lost only Kpop idols wear eyeliners. Because they want to look best and trendy on camera, in almost every category.
+Phanteus but sometimes their makeup stylist make them look like a girl. Anyway they do that for money
I completely agree! It's as if they set up these interviews already knowing the results without being considerate of the level of fairness
This video is so biased I cant hahaahahhahaha
Namira Shock lol i was thinking the same thing. i'm all for these kinds of videos but you could tell how biased it was. many kpop idols don't look like that but they wanted to prove some kind of point
There's also the age range of the women. Ofc they wouldn't choose the "feminine" and younger looking ones bc they look like "boys" compared to the actors who look like "men". If they asked younger women (not necessarily teens) they might've gotten diff answers.
+Cheezukeyku this women are younger their age between 19 and 25 years old.
+Cheezukeyku Yeah but the point is they were 18 or 17 so younger women would mean teens...
Woah...comments section was as expected...pop fans are triggered!!
Hell yeah cuz the comparison was not fair but meh whatever
"theyre like lesbians" deaddddd 😂😂😂😂😂
I'll let my bf know that he's a woman now lol.
I'm just saying that these days they look a little more like men, and a little less like 12 year old girls.
lavender rose if u want facial hair u can always stan siwon
Lol I won’t lie K pop stars look all feminine to me. Literally ALL of them. I think Asians overall are just obsessed with being cute in a child like/innocent manner
They dont look feminine.... they are very extremely well groomed
@@UnmeshaMishra
If they not feminine then who is feminine
They even wear cat dress with full make up
Lol
You literally chose the most feminine photos of male kpop idols. Kpop groups consists of varying styles from cute to masculine. The photos selected were bias, so that the westerners would obviously choose the korean movie stars.
you could have choose BTS's danger concept
just because they look feminine doesn't mean they are gay
It's just a fact that most women prefer total masculine men so we have to accept it. More cute guys for us! :)
Sapphire Ocean seem like gay, kinda like gay. I think that's what they said which refers to the outfit and make-up and not with the person.
Sapphire Ocean Obviously, when they say the kpop males are gay, they actually mean that they LOOK gay. They are not really referring to their sexuality but their appearance.
Not if they watch anime haha cuz they will like anime guy
Ok but why do you choose foetus pictures
Would not be surprised if they were shown pictures of korean females and the woman said they were too skinny.
can't believe it... i'm asian and i don't think they look feminin. i love k pop and goosh they're all so hot *~* #army #multifandom

You know when k-pop stars do the masculine hairstyle the look exactly same hot like korean movie stars the picture is just too one sided
"This guy looks like justin bieber" LMAO
I kinda agree tho
Won bin is the most handsome korean man alive. period.
Barney Stinson AGREED. MY FAV ACTOR
Yeah and still most of the korean agree with that even though he hasn't appeared in his new movie for 7years
IKR
1st; the right side
2nd;the left side
3rd; I like both to be honest.
De Shell He should've chosen a group and an actor about the same age to compare them.
In western media, the kpop groups would be marketed to young girls, ages 5 - 14. They would most likely be on a disney channel or nickelodeon series to further provoke that. And the actors, would be used to market toward girls ages 17 - 27
That's where the cultural differences come in
But can you imagine?
" Hi we're SHINee and you're watching Disney Channel! "
I'm a girl, European, straight and... Yes I find that some men on the right was better looking than the ones on the left, but I also think that wearing make up or rings and stuff aren't just women things. If a man is handsome, is handsome period.
They were a little bit rude calling them gay, because it seems they used that word as an insult when it's not. Calling someone "gay" has not to be an insult or a label.
대부분 우리는 서양인들이 개방적이고 차별이 없다고 생각하는데 이 영상을 보니까 반대로 생각되네요! 꼭 여자만 염색이나 화장을 해야하는 건 아니니까요. 남자다운게 좋다는 건 취향이지만 게이같다거나 레즈비언 같다는 건 조금은 차별적인 생각같네요. 좋은 영상 감사합니다!!
but but, they're all attractive and cute ;-;
I think its more like
"asian man in their 20 vs asian man in their 30" 😂
it's funny how the west fights for lgbt rights and puts others down when they dont feel comfortable with people being queer and absolutely hate using gay ad a derogatory term, yet here they are, saying gay.

So they haven't seen Minhoo from Shinee
How couldn't you choose Minho? God
Minho is beautiful and gosh, i love kpop n SHINee, dont even watch kdrama but..next to Won Bin i'd have to rethink a lot of things. 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
ForCommentingMusic&Etc. :D♥ I'm addicted to kdrama. I love the clichè and sweet relationship between the characters ahah and I love expecially drama where Minho is! And let's talk about Lee Hyun-woo
I really can't choose a favourite between them
Harold Edward Styles yeahhhh he's cute too!:D
i bet if he showed her a shirtless photo of Minho or Jonghyun next to him, she's pick Shinee hands down XD
+Harold Edward Styles they just picked shitty group photos :/
"they look like a girl" 😂 agreeeeeeeee
I all ways choose the k-pop star
baekhyunkkaebsong same
In my opinion Minho is one of the most attractive idols, but if you compare it to Won Bin... Won Bin always be the winner.
BAP fans....let's attack! hahahas XD
Lol yeah! Bap is gay?! Noooo siree
+Key Williams no she said they're lesbian. omfg i'm cracking up xDDDDD
Oh...lol olio going to shut up now 😭
+Hazelyn Lin I blame the pictures that were used BABYs where you at?! and SHINee's picture could be soooooooooooooooo much better!
Thanks god! I totally agree with you.
True words
I just rewatched this video, and I think enough time has passed that a redo would be good now. Especially because the image of kpop stars is changing and a lot of idols are starting to workout a lot now. If you chose similar profile pictures of actors and idols - the comparison would be more fare too.
I personally thought the left was more attractive, and I don't see how wearing makeup makes you gay, I wear makeup but I'm not a lesbian xx
More than 4 years later, but your comment is so hilarious!!!
이거 일반 한국인 여자한테 물어도 오른쪽이라해요 ㅡㅡ;;;;
eungyo Seo 이게 팩트ㅋㅋㄱㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㄱ
Agree
글쌔요 첫번째 사진에서는 왼쪽이 좀더 인기많을거같아요... 요즘추세로는...
I bet if you put a picture of Daniel Henney beside A-list Hollywood actors, girls would say Henney is more attractive every time guaranteed.
Daniel Henney is basically nothing ccomparint to some hollywood actors looks wise
***** many koreans from korea have non korean name so how does not having an asian name means u arent asian?
MushroomFany Taengoo His dad is white, which makes him a hairy european.
Great choice of people to interview, all so cute.
Kpop stars can be easly be transformed like guys on the right- it is just hair style and clothes. Amazing how it change everything
yes but, kpop entertainment promote soft masculinity.
that push singer to be more left.
(they have contract, they cant cut hair out looking ,like what they want)
the directors artistic, control all.
I think a great idea would be remaking this video 'cause the attitude towards kpop idols has changed significantly throughout these years
Me: Korean actors, they're definitely more attractive and mature.
I'm an HUGE fans of SHINee but yeah.. I do agree with those girls. I'll choose manly mature men for my life.
Honestly that women on thumbnail earned half million view of this video. Nice thumbnail pick bro
Please do this in 2023 it would be totally oposite 😂💜.
Won Bin is the answer
Pick actually good looking K-pop stars I.e. T.O.P
Boys are not supposed to be manly and girls are not supposed to be feminine but again its their opinion and i respect it.
are only women allowed to wear make-up? Is a woman who doesn't wear make-up considered not feminine? no!
Are only women allowed to wear colorful clothes? Is a woman who doesn't wear colorful clothes considered not feminine? no!
Are only women allowed to have long hair? Is a woman who doesn't have long hair considered not feminine enough? no!
So WHY does this not apply to men too? "
Men with make-up? yuk! Men with colorful clothes? Eeew. Men with long hair? Nope" the list goes on...
Don't you notice the unfair treatment here??
Its their own taste, their own preference as a woman, they know what they like, if they are not into k pop idol/ bunch of men with make up , what do you expect then?
Im half done with this episode, and they ALWAYS freaking choose the right one... I mean i would choose the kpop bands all the way...
Wow thank you for this because i find actors way more attractive than kpop stars, kpop boys are waay to feminine cutesy for me.
"too feminine" you mean too beautiful? i gotchu i got it
yeah like a girl...
what? no.
It's ok *forced smile* people have their opinions *gets teary eyed* My display pic must be too girly for them too T_T
***** Aww thanks
That is the shittest picture of Shinee, Taemin was about 15.
MuSicPooL888 i dont know about that. U telling me a girl would want skinny ass taemin over song seung heon?
Ali J they didnt pick debut pics for actors. but the pics they look hot (except 2nd guy lmao he is old as shit)
2:45 "Kidda like me", and the girl's reaction lol "yea...h hahahaha"
이런 영상 좋은것 같네요. 앞으로 많이 만들어주세요. 괜히 이런거 보고 한국사람으로서 자부심 느껴집니다.
I know right!? Being feminine actually has its ups, don't you agree?
Catherine Zhang Yes,I agree ! :)
:) *****
I SAW BAP AND CLICKED SO FAST
so did i 😂
omg i didn't notice B.A.P is here HAHAHAHA
WHERE ARE MY BABYZ AT????????
I'm here🙋
Asian Boss, you need to make part 2 with current kpop trend and style.
Gotta love seeing how triggered all these people in the comment section get.
(And it's understandable, considering the demographic they aim for)
서양남자들이 생각하기에 이쁜여자 배우 사진들 보여주면서 누가더 예쁜지 이런거 해주시면 안될까요? 반응이 궁굼해서요! 늘 좋은 영상 감사합니다ㅎㅎ
"Gay... Just putting it out there. It's just not attractive." Well, I find that a bit mean, and not all KPOP stars look like that.
I choose Korean Actor too
freaks me out how disgustingly and mindlessly judgemental people STILL are about appearances
Beckies Charms Don't be foolish. It is ingrained in human nature. Appearances and the image are very important.
i dont believe that blaming human nature for assuming someones sexuality based on what they look like is okay.
Looks don't matter. I agree. But if the guy sees potential in himself to make him more attractive, would you stop him and not change his looks and body for the better?
***** im not even white, racist little bitch.
***** half my family is asian, the other half is latino. shut the fuck up you have no idea what you're talking about
Even though I am kpop lover, I really loved all the pictures of the actors. If I didn't know about KPOP then I'd probably also pick the Korean Actors. They were all smoking hot.
That girl at 1:55 is so pretty, her dimple omgosh!!
