you not suppose to drink the liqueur like that, its made to drink with coffee or mixed in with other beverages. but its hard liqueur so if you are going to drink it raw, you need to use shots, not wine glasses. its like drinking vodka out of a cup :D
Thanks for nice videos of my city - Riga :) Regarding Black Balsam. Best ways to drink it are:1) with black cofee and whiped cream or vanilla ice cream; 2) with hot or cold black currant juice 3) shots 50/50 with peach nectar. Cheers!
Small info about Riga Balsam - one you tried - its Classical Black Balsam, which was first made around 300 years ago from around 30 different ingredients (like oak bark, root bark, ginger, honey, peppermint etc.) by a local alchemist and was originally used as medicine (so haha- taste ... is what it is). But now there is 3 other versions made - 1) Balsam with Rum; 2) Balsam with Blackberries; 3) Balsam Cream ( everyone says it's "Lady's" due to it being sweeter and gentler than other ones). Last thing - if you can't drink it ... directly .... you can mix it with other drinks (tea, coffee, cocktail) or sweets you like! Anyway - Awesome videos! Please don't stop them anytime soon! OwO
LoL, if you want to drink black balsam straight, go for black currant version of it, not the original one, that feels too much like a medicine (well, duh, that's what "balsam" suppose to be!), and is usually poured into coffee or, what I love to do - pour a couple of teaspoons of balsam over an ice-cream, it adds bitterness, but tastes really good. And yeah, "potent" and "one sip" is a perfect description. XD. That's why in restaurants and bars it's usually served in a tiny shot glass next to a cup of coffee.
I love this ! I was born and adopted from Riga Latvia back in 1998 and live in the US with my wonderful parents who adopted me. I have not had the chance to go to back to my birth country Latvia yet. I am 24 and one day hope to go back and possibly find my birth mom and if possible dad. Seeing this video was so wonderful and I got to see some of it without even leaving my house! Absolutely amazing ! Love your videos !
I suggest to come to Latvia at the end of spring or at summer, its really beutiful here at those times, and if you do come, look up what some tourists have recomended and what we Latvians would recomend
You should had tried the black currant one. That is the true one. That saved me on latvian winters. On my opinion you tried the worst one so maybe thats why you didnt enjoyed it so much. With lemon tea is good! I lived with latvians and some drink it with tea!
Fair enough! We really just wanted to just try the original before anything else, but next time we'll definitely be using it as a mixer and sticking to black currant 😄
You don't usually drink original Black Balsam on it's own. You mix it in cocktails or drink it with coffee. Black Balsam Currant is the one to drink as shots. Or you can add it to a warm black currant juice with slice of orange.
Latvian Balsams is an acquired taste. I’m an American who lived in Riga for years and I actually love it. It’s great on ice cream or in coffee. But it’s a miraculous tonic for colds and, believe it or not, stomach flue. I loved your video. You made me homesick.
My fiancé and his family are from a small village in Latvia and they love the cherry flavoured Balzam which I like too (I'm irish) they also take a shot whenever they have a sore throat
I’m a Latvian who loves people who speak English and if me and my friends see and hear someone on the street we will probably talk to them!!! Also great video!!!!!!!!!
I love that stuff. Try mixing it in a cup of hot coffee, especially a latte. Either that or mix it with warm blackcurrant juice. Riga black balsam was in fact invented to be a medicine for flu and counters allergies. And it also goes well with Chinese dishes. I boil it with my chicken soup.
I bloody love your vlogs! Am catching up on all the ones I missed between early last year and now. I just checked out flights on Ryanair to Riga from London, so cheap! Will go in the next few months. Thanks for the entertainment!
omg that balsam botle was so small😂 it's designed to be as a souvenire. the 0.5 liter or 0.7 liter is for drinking😂😂😂 it's often given as a gift here too with some "Laima" chocolates
Hi there, found you guys from your blog, just wondering, how did you achieve the really smooth time lapse shot at 2:06? usually whenever I attempt a time lapse it comes out really fast without the smooth motion blur that yours did.
Hilarious liquor tasting segment!!! I loved the video. I have to wonder if the "meringue" on the cake was made from sour cream? I also loved how you started the video with a beautiful drone shot....
About the balsam --> as beginners for balsam you should better try the ones with berry tastes. The least alcohol taste is with Blackcurrant (as you mentioned) or the next best option is cherry flavor.
never really herd of mixing balsam with black currant, but there is an actual black currant flavor available. and I think there are smaller volumes available as well
I am from Latvia myself and yeah, it is a great country, but you know - like any country it has its pros and cons. Tourists usually come here because it's fairly cheap and in summers it's is really awsome, especially in Jurmala. Super good job on the montage and as i can see you used some nice lenses as well. Overall I'm really glad You enjoyed it and great job on the montage! :)
You should have had a Riga Coffee at the Apsara Tea House and the layered honey cake. It's black coffee with classic Balsam. Also good if you add heavy cream. Balsam "Element" with the red label is sweeter and more like Jaegermeister. Last time I was in Latvia in 2018 there was a version of Balsam with cherry flavor and it was sweeter. You will not wake up with a hangover if you have some Balsam along with beer.
You make Riga look so interesting and beautiful. I live here and go to the central market almost everyday and it is not even half as exciting as you make it look. 😄 and you should've came here in the summer.
Really enjoying your RIga videos. I'm hoping you check out Mezaparks before you leave the city. It's really beautiful. Looking forward to the next video to see if I know which coffee roaster you're going to. It's not on Miera Iela by any chance?
Have you any plans to return to Ireland in the future? You would love The Wild Atlantic Way over here. So many cool places for you to explore and lots to do!
Another nice video thanks I'm in Scotland and don`t get away much but I did date a German lady for a while last year so it gave me an excuse to travel there every few weeks :)
Went for a weekend to Riga and Balsam was insanely strong. Worst thing was we were already drunk in a bar and asked for a local drink, so we hadn't prepared at all for it! There's an Italian liquor called Fernet that's similar, but that's more floral.
Oh my! That's definitely a drink you need to mentally prepare for 😳 and ohhhh yes, we've had fernet before. And it was equally as offensive (at least for me, haha!) - Allison
What a beautiful city 😍 Looks perfect for me and delicious but Riga Balzams is that strong? The description of the flavor was weird! The notification arrived so late but doesn't matter, was fantastic, hugs guys.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it was a lot stronger than we anticipated! 😄 That's strange your notification came so late! I guess they all don't go out at once 🤔
And black balsam I think nowadays we do t drink so much, I remember old people like my grandmother in older days used to drink it :) it's strange that nobody drinks it and yet it's one of the most popular souvenir here :)

Water it down with Vodka.....I like that.....My liver doesn't ;)
The Endless Adventure finally after a gap of so many days 😆
Sorry about that! We actually post Monday, Wednesday and Friday around 1pm CST. So keep your eyes out for new vlogs on those days!

+Natasha Jerjomina
A cup for vodka?! Гранёнка!
Natasha Jerjomina Ha ha ha ha! Yeah, that's true!
btw its not just liqueur its herbal balsam.
but with coffee it tastes awful haha
Add a bit of it to tea when you are feeling sick! Works wonders
You don't need to go to specific bar to buy balsam. You can buy it almost in every grocery store
Thanks for nice videos of my city - Riga :)

looks Great! Q-! How many understand English in Latvia? ;)
Funny Q :) Mostly latvian people are tri-lingual - we speak latvian, russian and english.
with coffee - ok, with peach nectar????!
Pint of Porter+Balsam shot (with the shot glass) - the depth charge Latvian style.
Ar kafiju vēl nav mēģināts :)

Exactly! I mix my balsam with tea, or even disolve it in just hot water (blackberry one) - makes for amazing winter hot drink

I am very sad to read your story, I pray to God that your dream of going to Latvia may come true so that you can meet your mom and dad ?
Thanks guys. I think I'll put Latvia on my bucket list.
Definitely do, we had a great time there!
well id otn need it on bucket list cuz ima lready here!
Make sure to put it at the very bottom :D
There really isn't much here.
I suggest to come to Latvia at the end of spring or at summer, its really beutiful here at those times, and if you do come, look up what some tourists have recomended and what we Latvians would recomend

Original is true one, but it is a mixed in drinks etc. you shouldn't`t drink it alone + I recommend you a real Latvian beer
Balsam actually was sold for medicinal purposes a long time ago.
Rigas Balyams is really great in winter or if you are cold.

Love Riga, I've been there often. Great city with great people.

We'll definitely try it as a mixer next time!

It's great for when you have the flu!

Did you marry or not yet ? You looks beautiful
I love your description of the liquor! 😆🥃 you should do this more often!
I’m a Latvian who loves people who speak English and if me and my friends see and hear someone on the street we will probably talk to them!!! Also great video!!!!!!!!!
YOU SHOULD’VE TRIED THE PURPLE ONE! The purple Latvian balsam is WAAAAAY better!
Greetings from Latvia 🇱🇻
drink balzam just before you feel getting cold - with coffe, tea etc. (mix)
Just finished watching all your videos from the beginning; absolutely love your channel!
I'm from Latvia!!
Sveicieni latviešiem!!!
Oh Latvian woman are beautiful 😍🤗
Haha. You guys rock. I'm from Rīga, and that's exactly my experience with Rīgas Balzams. The one with black current or cherry is very good though.
American cake looks like a cross between cheesecake and bannoffi pie (banana and toffee British invention)
I bloody love your vlogs! Am catching up on all the ones I missed between early last year and now. I just checked out flights on Ryanair to Riga from London, so cheap! Will go in the next few months. Thanks for the entertainment!
That "American" pie is called Banofee pie. It's amazing! And Black balsam is amazing if you drink it right way 😇
Moroccan people love couscous and tagine .🤗
I an half Latvian, born in the U.K. try the bacon rolls. Beautiful and yummy. Nice place. Nice peeps..
Loved watching you guys trying the little bottle of dooooom ! Great video as always guys.
Excellent description 😂
omg that balsam botle was so small😂 it's designed to be as a souvenire. the 0.5 liter or 0.7 liter is for drinking😂😂😂 it's often given as a gift here too with some "Laima" chocolates
?
Why didn't you show Nikita trying the drink!? You don't show him enough!
I like it when Eric occaisionaly lapses into London accent at tea times etc...or does he not realise it ...lol
Hi there, found you guys from your blog, just wondering, how did you achieve the really smooth time lapse shot at 2:06? usually whenever I attempt a time lapse it comes out really fast without the smooth motion blur that yours did.
Really enjoying your travel vlogs. I look forward to each new and exciting instalment. How long do you intend to be traveling Europe?
Thanks! We'll be here for a few weeks longer, then we'll head to SE Asia for a bit.
Dude! Belly laughing! Cool graphics. Thank you for the amusing tasting!
That drone footage is 😍 I feel like I've been to Latvia now. Thanks for sharing ☺️
Glad you enjoyed it! I feel like seeing the drone's perspective always helps us understand a city better. - Eric
Had my American friend try balzams and he gave it the best description. He took a sip and said “Tastes like the woods.”
one little tea spoon RIGA BLACK BALSAM and cup of black tea.Pour into hot cup of tea one tea spoon balsam and enjoy it after summer swiming.
Hilarious liquor tasting segment!!! I loved the video. I have to wonder if the "meringue" on the cake was made from sour cream? I also loved how you started the video with a beautiful drone shot....

You should drink the black currant Balzams, that tastes amazing, mix it with grape juice or black currant juice. Amazing, my go to drink!
About the balsam --> as beginners for balsam you should better try the ones with berry tastes. The least alcohol taste is with Blackcurrant (as you mentioned) or the next best option is cherry flavor.

Anyone knows name of the song when video starts?
Beautiful city... and the Balsam is gorgeous, but you have to treat it like a shot, or mix it with coffee or hot chocolate. Love it...

Do you like tajine from Morocco?
8:50 The Riga Black Balsam is not meant to be consumed as such. It can be added to sparkling wine or champagne. Greetings from Estonia!
Should have added the balzam to coffe, great stuff. As for adding black curant juice, we a couple of flavours, black curant included)
Have you guys tried Kleiner Feigling its German fig liquor, totally delicious if you're going anywhere near there xx
i live in Latvia and now i am going to be famous because of it.
Went for a weekend to Riga and Balsam was insanely strong. Worst thing was we were already drunk in a bar and asked for a local drink, so we hadn't prepared at all for it!

You can actually make really great drinks with Balsam.
I never pay to be a Patreon for TH-camrs because I've not yet found any that are worth my time doing it for, but you guys? If I get the job I applied for yesterday, I'll become a Patreon. I am from latvia and if u want the balzams drink to taste good u have to try it with oraange juice or coca cola
Try Purple/Blue Black Balsam, because those are flavoured and actually taste pretty good raw. The brown one should be mixed, that's why it didn't taste so good
can someone tell me please what is the track name? I went through all of the track on Beatknitter soundcloud and cannot find it :(
Great vlog btw :)
I'm from Riga, Latvia but almost year been living in Milan :) it's so nice to see my city and it makes me miss it :)) for very good cakes you should go to "bskeberry" or "kūkotava" and for good latvian traditional but modern food " Valtera restorāns" "3 pavari" or "rocket bean rostery" which has amazing coffee serving culture as well :)
