I have a few questions before signing up for ACP...I listened to the full interview and I just renewed my license in California 2 weeks ago and asked for the apostille and stamp and DMV said they DO NOT provide any such document and have never heard of one...that was at the physical DMV. I then contacted the top tier Toks Omishakin Secretary California State Transportation Agency and made an appt. and received a call and explained what I needed Rita worked with me trying to locate any such thing and also got off the phone and checked and called back...same outcome. I live in Portugal for 2 1/2yrs with R.V. and last August before my U.S. license expired I went to a driving school Escola De Conduçao Lusiada . I took the medical 30 euros and gave the documents "they knew about" another 30 euros. They turned it in. I heard back from IMT missing documents? Booklet? certificate of authenticity of the apostille from the consultation. I called the Escola they knew nothing and would not look into it and would not return my call. Now I want to get a complete clear answer please I'm going back to Portugal in a month and need to get this resolved and paid again. Below there is two answers Embassy or state What does it look like exactly this form can someone provide a photo. How about booklet IMT asked me for? Proving class C is the equal to class B license. Thank you
The doctors enter it directly into the computer for the IMC. I think it’s IMC. Make sure if you have a motorcycle addendum that he adds all the ones you want on there. Make sure you have your certificate, and better yet proof of taking the class for your motorcycle licenses, there was a time when they were denying many many people who are wanting their motorcycle license. So not only did I do everything and make sure all the boxes were ticked, I had my attorney come with me just in case they gave me grief. She was awesome and super affordable and actually drove me to the IMT and when they issued the temporary license, it didn’t include my motorcycle addendum so then my attorney stepped up and said we’ve provided everything they needed that they need to issue my temporary, including the motorcycle denim. They stepped back. We waited 10 more minutes then they called us forward and wala, I had my motorcycle addendum on my temporary. And it’s also now on my permanent license.
Also, every state capital where the apostle legal documents from that state has a direct service where you can print forms, fill them out, put a cashiers check in there with a self addressed envelope home. It’s only $30 in my state. It’s cheaper than others and maybe a couple more dollars and others as well, but if you hire someone to do it, they’re gonna charge you an arm and a leg. For me I rather pay my friends to help me do this. I still did all the computer work and sent all the documents to my friend and they just had to do the mailing and you know that kind of work for me.
When I came from the US, I had done everything. I had a Paul steal my driving record and got the certificate from the embassy but since SEF messed everything up, I was here 10 months before I had my residence card and could get my Ua back then during the Covid time you had one year to exchange it Currently I’ve heard several different stories of how you actually have to exchange it. Because mine went over six months I immediately paid my friend in the US to do everything for me. I ordered my driving record online and he printed it out and got it notarized and apostle, and then he sent it to the embassy, and I can’t remember if I had them send it back to him or if I had the embassy send it directly to me because you have to put an envelope that send it a paid envelope to send it wherever you want to go. but I got it in time and was completely prepared for everything
Hello winny I'm Olivia needing some clarification about drivers license . I moved to Portugal 2021 . In August 2023 before my CA. Dl expired I went to a Driving school company that handles exchanges...did the med and gave them docs they said I needed I gave my DRecord print out they said I didn't need I said send it anyway...at this time I didn't know all requirements thats why I hired them. IMC refused my docs and no help from DSCompany. Right now I'm in Ca. and renewed my DL and got a new print out of record. Asked DMV and State Department about certificate of authenticity neither knew anything. Came across this forum and your info and still unclear of notarized and apostle and embassy part. Is there another form from state department or is the DRecord all thats required? Who, what and where exactly does and is the three parts to this? I realize this is lengthy but there is still alot of confusion out there I wanted to warn other expats to do their due diligence before hiring Driving School Companies. Thank you for your time, Olivia
Good information. Does anyone know if the process is different for a motorcycle license or endorsement (or whatever it's called here)? I have a California drivers license with a motorcycle endorsement. I should add that I'm also over 60.

Hi John. We also have a community forum where anyone can come and search for information or ask a new question - expatsportugal.com/community/
Hong Kong? Is HK considered as part of China? A HK licence is different.
Get a second US driver license ("lose" your actual one). Then when you get to Portugal exchange the new one and keep the lost one. Done
