Hopefully this will help you understand how to take apart your Kubota D905, D1105, D1005, D1305 05 Series Diesel engine, or at least see the general process and all the parts. The engine in the video is a Kubota D905 3 cylinder diesel. The 05 Series D905 engine is found in many applications like compressors, light towers, generators, excavators, skid steers, pumps, man lifts, utility carts, and more. This is how to take apart a Kubota D905 engine, save for the crank because it is stuck. This Kubota D905 engine take apart video is a timelapse to save time and for visual satisfaction. If you need to slow down the video, click the gear cog in the lower right corner of the video and change the speed settings. If you need more help, I may be able to cut a part of the video and post it at normal speed. If you don't like the music, turn your volume down; there wouldn't be sound otherwise because of the time lapse.

It gives me some appreciation for the engineering skills and draughtsmen that did the first drawing of this engine ! Such a complex bit of metal well done chaps !
Please I wish to ask the procedure for setting valve clearance for this three cylinder engine, thanks
If this engine had a turbo, yes a tiny turbo, that puts out 30 psi/boost with a ceramic piston layer this engine would put out so much power in a generator application it might put out a steady 30kw and only use the same amount of fuel as this engine in a none boosted state. One oil for the turbo. A heavy oil for the engine. And a very large radiator.
engine take down video worked will for me. I disassembled my l2250d quite easy after this video.
the engine crank shift is beyond repair. wondering if the guy in the video have one for sale ?
Bro how do you put up together the engine ?
Does the main camshaft have bearings?
I enjoy watching the time lapse videos, thanks for uploading.
you're welcome and thanks for watching!
do you have the service manual by any chance for the torque specs
anyone know the part number for the cap that is removed at 6:19? Parts diagrams stink!
Thanks. Useful vid. I have a D1005 in my boat. Workshop manuals available in Brisbane Aust. are a bit ordinary.
Thats cool, what kind of boat is it?
@@aDIYCarGuy It's an S&S34 yacht. Industrial Kubota, Yanmar, Isuzu and similar engines are popular inboard diesels for boats. Reliable and parts readily available. Easily marinized. I'm still learning about them.
that's awesome!
I have this engine in a Vermeer S600TX mini skid steer - manual says oil change with filter is 5.1L. dipstick shows waaaayyyy over full. removed about 1.5l and its just above the full mark - is the shallow oil pan common on these? any damage likely from being run overfull? it ran a long time as previous oil change shows it had way too much in it as well.
Part of this is in my future, I have a piston knocking in my B7100 with a D750 engine. I am hoping to get by with just pulling the head and oil-pan.
Bro I need the plungers springs. Mi gen have the same issue that this one, one plunger spring broken. But I can´t find it because no one wanna sell it trying to redirect to pump lab for rip off people. But I can replace this spring by my self. Would you sell me a few plungers springs???
Injector pump spring collapse is common on D905 same thing on mine...
Yep, long with injection pump racks seizing or plungers hanging.. all very simple fixes.. aside from that not much can go wrong with these little work horses
I've got a D1105 in a scag mower we got from our neighbor. I love that little engine! I need to find a replacement fan for it though because the plastic is pretty dry and brittle.
Awesome, I bet that's a powerful mower!
It is. It's a Scag Magnum 3 with a 72" deck. My brother and I are in the process of refurbishing it a little at a time but on the one test cut i did it proved to be a beast! We've put a few hundred bucks into it so far but it's VERY much worth the investment. From what my research has been able to uncover that was a VERY expensive commercial mower. The neighbor just decided to park it in his field because it got a little difficult to start (the starter doesn't want to engage, I think it just needs to be shimmed because you roll the motor over by hand a little bit and it will engage, crank, and start just fine) But I can't believe that thing cranked over and ran perfectly with diesel in it that was god knows how old. We've done the standard filters, soft lines, fluids, greased the zirks, and replaced tires and will have new deck belts on order as well.
excelent video . where can a buy this motors
Injection pump return spring seemed to be in pieces...
Génial merci.
Je vais devoir démonter mon moteur Kubota D950 pour le refaire
Cela va m'aider
Do you know if there is any oil galley plugs on the flywheel side? I got a leak
Cool. Waiting on the Assembling video now....
Still waiting?
Hello do you have any parts left from these engines looking for the governor
have you got 2 thimbles that screw into the injector parts for a kubota D1105
can you link me to a picture of what you mean or send a pic to my email adiycarguy@yahoo.com
bold man doing any kind of mechanical work over gravel. he must have magnets for hands
Sir. Would you be able to find parts in your country for this type of engine?
Sun Sun Readily available from several sources.
These are great little engines,
The injectors pump has a reputation for going out and cost about 400 dollars.
@@samlogosz8422 cheap fix for an engine that can go well over 8k hrs with regular maintenance
crazy guy!!!!!
I am looking for a 5kw up to7.5 kw diesel generator
Solid vid! Thanks for sharing
Nice syntwawe music 👍👍
Hey bud I have bx2200 d905 I have taken out the cylinder head out and forgot to marked the position location of the flywheel so I could install the cylinder head back in without messing up the push rod or valve interference. Is there a way that I could set the timing without taking all of the accessories in front of the motor. I knew the piston #1 TDC is there any mark on the outside of the timing gears cover or on the harmonic pulley? Thanks
here's a maintenance manual, page G-20 has something about timing, and I'm sure there is more on other pages but I don't have time to look manuals.minutemanintl.net/PowerBoss/Engines/Kubota/D905/D905_Workshop_Manual.pdf
@@aDIYCarGuy thanks bud, went to the kubota dealer today bought belt and that blue oring in the between cylinder head and block. Asked the part guy and Parts guy nice enough to point me to a better service advisor and he brought me to his tech. Tech said the crank needed to turn so many revolutions b4 the timing all the Mark's matching together (just want to drop in my cylinder head with correct timing and not damaging my valves)! I had it close but not on the money, I will let you guys know how it's turning out. My Mark's weren't lining up yet, will do this weekend! Thanks again man! If it turn out like the tech said I own that tech and his boss a set of lunches lol I wish u live close by I treating u too man!
haha sounds good! you're welcome and thanks for keeping us updated!
Are the main bearings normal white metal bearing.
And what about crank thrust bearings. Where are they located..
Also the bolts that you said hold the crank in place.... what are the bolts locating exactly.
Cheers
i was planning in replacing/converting my 3 cyl gas small van to one of those
that would be pretty cool
@@aDIYCarGuy I put a Kubota 905 into a Geo Metro convertible. Had to adapt the Kubota bellhousing using a .500'' steel plate. The flywheel and clutch was from Suzuki Swift and the crank holes almost line up to the Kubota crank. They needed egg shaping with a die grinder. The center spigot fit on the flywheel needed to be bored to interference fit the Kubota crank. There was 1/8'' interference from the transmission input pilot to the Kubota crank so the end of the crank needed to have clearance ground into it. Any stock trans will fit the engine with zero modifications. Using the stock 2 transmission mounts, a new front motor mount was made and the crank pulley clears the frame by a half inch. Tight!
All said, it was gutless. The 905 governor had to be modified to get 3600 rpm. Driving it was nuts as the governor would kick in at shift points. Removing an injector body shim and messing with the rack stop screw gave it a bit more power.
It did 62mph wide open on governor. 25 to 50 mph was nice on rolling hills. It got 70 miles per gallon. I used the in-tank fuel pump to circulate fuel to the injector pump but used the engine lift pump and a vacuum bottle to work the power brakes.
The worst part was that the standard 905 oil filter sits right in the middle of the right axle. There is a block off plate on the other side of the Kubota block that LOOKS like a filter will screw in there but the oil passages don't line up at all. I made a special plate to fit under the oil filter bolt that directs the oil through the filter...now on the front side of the engine...opposite the governor/injection pump side.
It was a fun project but the governor is just not designed for automotive use and actual drivability sucked. The People's Republik of Kaifornia would not license it so it sits covered in ivy in my side driveway awaiting the EMP strike or Carrington Solar Flare. I made a fiberglass removable hard top with Pontiac glass heated rear window and Nissan 300Zx sunroof for it.
I helped a fellow named Forrest in Texas get his 1005 Kubota Metro running from the things I learned. YT dumped my video, lost forever, but here's his installation. th-cam.com/video/eJEMgN1r-j4/w-d-xo.html
I m thinking about pulling the 6.0 turbo diesel out of my 1 ton ford and putting in one of these.
now just how do you think that little 25 horse power engine is going to do the work of a 300 horse power engine? I'll agree the IH 6.0 liter engine is a piece of junk, but you need to find something better than a little kubota. A friend of mine put a cummins 5.9 liter in the place of his 6.0 and it worked out just fine, daily driver.
Get a IDI 7.2
actually that would be a 7.3 444 cu.in. I.H. with electronic direct injection. A powerhouse that is indestructible. Ford quit using them in 2005 and went to the undesirable 6 liter. EPA mandated lower emissions. For real, Ford had so many warrantly claims on the 6 liter that I.H. quit honoring the warranty and Ford and I.H. went nose to nose in court, never did hear how that came out.
go hydraulic drive with a massive accumulator for boost on hills and passing
I just bought one of these 902 ev engines for $100.. wonder what i could use it for 🤔
I like those engines too. if I can some day I'll buy me a diesel engine and swap it in my lawn tractor. And speaking of diesel engines i might want to do the same for my project truck in the future.
That'd be pretty sweet!
a DIY Car Guy I'd say goodbye to bogging with wet grass.
Jimbo Booth definitely lol
a DIY Car Guy with all that natural torque id be able to do alot
Respect....
Sabaraha pangaosna kang?
Tengo un motor kubota en un mini cargador pero no acelera
How long was it under water
I don't know, probably a day or more, it was in a flood
a DIY Car Guy can you tell me how to set timing d905 , I am about to drop a new cylinder head. The bad thing forgot to mark where the pistons/ rear fly wheel sitting so I can put it back at least on the old spot. Saw couple videos but not clear. Don’t know the valve interference would damaged the cylinder head, would you let me know thanks
Hey Brother do you sell those engines let me know thanks brother
not usually, but when I come across them I do, I haven't looked around in a while, just no room for more stuff right now
That was incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Great vid
Ok , why you put this in speed mode?
Too long in normal speed. maybe I could post a normal speed video in the future
What did it come out of?
Low hours Ingersoll Rand light tower or compressor that were flooded. I have 2 engines, not sure which one came out of which apparatus, I just know one was from a light tower and the other was a compressor
a DIY Car Guy why dose my d 905 has a Elric fuel pump
Guy. Dose it has two have diesel pressure
Like how much. Psi. Dose a 3 cyl Deisel Fuel pump. Should have
how much hp is a 905
about 20 +/-
20 hp would be @3000rpm, but at 1800rpm would be around 12 hp? generator use inquiry, seems like a neat engine.
1-3 is me when ever I talk
That looks like an 1105
Now can u put it back TOGATHER and run ???
yea if I had a machine shop at my disposal
I’m a diesel mechanic to and I’m looking for small diesel like at D905 and D850s D9 50s 1105 so if you find some let me know for sale
will do, i haven't looked for them in a while though
try looking for them in cold units from carrier, i repair lots of
this engines.
Greetings from italy
Hello!
I could take one apart... the real trick is putting it back together and making it run.....
even trickier when it's been submerged in flood water like the one in the video
boy you are crazy :D you took off the head bolts in the wrong order.... the head could be bend....
i did a rebuild on a kubota v1505... video coming up soon... still great video tho!
How the cylinder head het bend if the its cold no matter how he get off the bolts ... its cold
how money
OK thanks
You didnt remove the valves from the head
No reason to. I sell the valves with the head.

ok
Bro I don't even know how to do my own I'll change lol
lol that's ok, hopefully there's at least an entertainment value, which is what i mostly am going for with this video
Definately thats why i subscribed i enjoy your channel alot!
Charles O'Donnell awesome, thanks man!!

think i could put this in a jeep?
nah it's too weak, it only makes around 20hp, ~38ftlb torque. They put these in little Jacobsen UTV's, but it wouldn't move a full size jeep.
buy it anyway. if you don't want it, where is it? lol
thanks for the quick reply
what part of PA are you in?
👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Not a good idea to dismantle on gravel. Very east for screws, nuts washers and o rings to get lost. At least use a tarp or plywood. One thing I've learned over the years is to at least "try" to be neat and organized. Saves a lot f headache. I was once rebuilding a diesel and lost one rod bolt so I went to Ace and found one that fit. The bolt snapped and the rod went through the block!!! I got lucky, it ONLY cost me $3K to rebuilt it after weeks of searching for a new block! ONE BOLT LOST cost $3K!
