      Because the matrix squat already exists. It's done with a roman chair squat, and its a much more advanced exercice.

      Because the sissy squat existed way before the movie "the matrix" came out. I was doing sissy squats in the 80's.

    For taller people with longer legs, these do much more for your quads than a traditional squat, which only activates glutes and hamstrings due to leg length

      Yeah I was going to say, for me they work well but for my wife they completely blow up her quads. She proportionally has long femers.
      Even when she squats 315 for sets of more than 5 she still mainly feels it in her qlutes and hamstrings, but doesn’t feel too much in her quads. But when she uses sissy squats less than one set in and she has a full pump already.

      The muscles used to support weight up or down don't change because ones legs are longer. It's like saying a bicep curl only uses the triceps if you have a longer arm

      ​@@VapeandJuiceTV I wouldn't say the mechanics of a single joint exercise like a curl is the same as a multi joint one.
      The squat is more similar to an overhead press. Can you make an overhead press more shoulder or tricep or chest focused?

      How exactly do you think you extend your knees in the squat without using your quads? Find me an elite powerlifter with small quads

    For everyone saying it’s bad for your knees, it can be if you don’t regress the exercise to your level. Progress slowly overtime and it will make your quads bigger, more flexible/mobile and bulletproof your knees.

    Thank you! I am going to do these when I bulk again and I couldn't figure out how to do them properly. I was rather concerned. I presume I could load this somewhat by holding plates. So at least up to 55 lbs. Should last a while.

    My left knee cap will crunch doing this, not risking it as a regular exercise but might give the kneeling variation a go thanks.

      Do it after at least two other quad exercises … if you’re nice and warmed up it’ll be fine

      @@Mr123tallpaul Yeah I done my leg workout today and some of the kneeling ones at the end. Surprisingly difficult, I'm probably more hamstring dominant so it could be a good one to keep doing.

    Once you’re proficient enough with these you can progress to the Sissy hack squat

    If there are people out there that think that this exercises is pointless...it's not. The sissy squat works the teardrop muscle of the quads (vastus medialis) while the regular squat does not, the regular squat targets the vastus lateralis which is the the biggest muscle of the quads located at the outer side from the front view. If you want the complete asthetic look of complete quads, you need to perform both exercises. Trust me it makes a difference.

    I'm a little concerned about trying these as I have had both knees operated on for meniscus tears. Are they safe for the knees or risky?

      Ben Patrick, aka KneesOverToesGuy, recommends these as part of the programs he sells (I think). He's had a knee partially replaced and was told that he should never play sports again. Look him up

    you only have one pair of knees, said pair can only be broken once for effect that lasts a lifetime.

    There's a sheering damage effect in the knee with leg extension machines or sissy squats. Not recommended 😕

      no. this is an old belief. if you ease into it they will make your knees stronger. itd probably be bad for someone really weak and deconditioned to hop into deep sissies off the bat tho.
