  • We replace our original oil filter housing with the revised version with an internal oil bypass valve that helps maintain oil pressure when the oil is cold and thick or the filter becomes clogged. Porsche 986 Boxster 996 911 Updated Oil Filter Housing With Oil Bypass Valve.

Mine is original from 2003. I never knew this was a consumable part.

Does it still have the valve inside? Mine didn’t and probably wasn’t filtering like it should. Update you other oil valve to the 997 version too! I did a video on it as well. Better oil pressure at startup when it is most critical

Great little update. This is the only time I've heard of this. Thank you.

Strange - I have the oilder oil filter housing part number ending with 54 and looks the same as the housing ending with part number 55. I did notice the filter fits more snug in the housing one way vs the other side. Next time I'll make sure it's snub both side.

Your original is missing the valve, good job you replaced as your filter would be doing very little filtering
