BofA's Cabana Expects Fed to Cut Rates by Another 75 bps This Year

  • On "Bloomberg Real Yield," Bank of America Securities Head of US Rates Strategy, Mark Cabana, says he expects the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates by another 75 basis points this year. BNP Head of US Credit Strategy, Meghan Robson, says she's only expecting the Fed to cut by another 50 basis points in total this year.

    If you think they will do 50-75bps of cuts this year, then your prediction is that recession is imminent.

      My speculation (and I write this as someone who went on the 'Tube opining 25, no guidance, so clearly I'm clueless): They gotta get debt service costs down, and cuts have nothing to do with the economy. They know they can import deflation at will, and they are comfortable with wage growth given productivity growth and inflation. I got more opinion but I'm saving it for later. I doubt there can be an r-word when financial conditions are so loose.
