    I hate to be negative to anyone trying to teach people, but this class jumps all over the place. There is no rhyme or reason why topics are in the order that they are. I mean the first thing the instructor talks about are amplifiers! Why amplifiers? It's not the first part of a signal chain, nor the last part. Then auxiliary outputs? The instructor hasn't talked about inputs or signal flow at this point, yet wants to talk about aux outputs! I would expect a introductory class to start with the basics and then logically build from one topic to another. I mean the instructor talks about compression and EQ (which are more complex concepts) before he even talks about gain and gain structure (which is the most basic building block of sound reinforcement). I expect that any real beginners to audio engineering are going to have a really hard time comprehending all this information because of the way it is presented.

      @Brian Simmons you are right, but you know it takes a lot of effort to put this together for free audience consumption, you'll probably would have appreciated the effort and then direct messaged him on further improvement.

      This class has nothing to do with signal flow or gain structure etc. it's more of defining some commonly used words. Maybe you listened to critic.

    Thanks a lot for this... my question is, is it advisable to always leave the phantom power on or only when I,m using condenser mics?

    • @BrianSimmons
      @BrianSimmons 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most analog consoles only have a single phantom power switch and it turns phantom power on/off for all inputs. On these consoles, if you need phantom power for even a single channel, it will be on for all channels. If you have a digital console, most will allow you to turn phantom power on/off at each preamp/channel. While it is rare to have this occur, phantom power can damage certain equipment that isn't designed to have external voltage applied to it's output. Therefore best practice would be to turn phantom power off on any channel that doesn't require it (because you are using condenser mics or active DI boxes for example).
