I do love how light my Concept 2 is. We keep it stored upright in our tiny home gym, and my boys are easily able to bring it down by themselves, as am I.
I'm getting into Hyrox and have been getting the equipment I need to train at home. I was going back and forth on the Concept 2 Rower and the Rogue. I know Hyrox uses Concept2 equipment but for the price and quality I went with Rogue for the Rower. I still ended up getting the Concept 2 SkiErg but I'm glad Rogue finally came out with their own Rower. I have their Echo Bike and it's solid. I would use it over any other Air Bike. Great review as always and keep up the great work.
I've been using the Rogue Rower for two weeks and have to say the Concept 2 PM5 monitor is still king. Rogue's is good but a little clunkier to navigate and the presentation isn't as clean. The best feature is the tuf tires which makes it easier to wheel around on surfaces that aren't perfectly flat. The fold up feature is nice if you have a basement gym like me with low ceilings. It's quicker & easier to store away standing like on the C2 and will be the way non-home gyms store them. Quick release straps are ok and will save maybe half a second on transitions for crossfit workouts and shouldn't be considered a game changing feature imo. Performance wise, they are pretty close but I am noticing some slight differences. Still trying to work those out across different tests though.
@@slimerone They’re honestly super close but I’d still give the edge to Concept 2. Not sure if it’s because it actually feels better or if it’s just the more familiar feeling considering I’ve been using C2 rowers for over a decade and that is my measuring stick. I’m going to have more people test them side by side so I can get more opinions also.

C2 world wide community built in to every product. The OG baby… it means a ton and over built matters where it means something, not where it doesn’t… think racking big weight with force not 45mins of rowing, then completely fried, lugging extra mass for no apparent reason. Obviously RowErg stands the test of time as is. But must admit the folding is nice.
The problem is that current C2 owners, like me, won’t switch to this and there are many. Rogue was 4 years late on this IMO. Also, the Logbook on C2 is excellent with the phone sync. The price difference is great but C2 is still king.
@energizer7354 too much is invested in c2 rower. Rogue rower might be a nice in addition to but for most crossfit gyms and home gym owners there's literally no point for the rogue rower
Yeah, but that is true for anything. Unless a person or business needs a new thing, they will stick with what they have. I'm pretty sure they are looking at stealing future sales from c2, not so much current owners.
@@username-kn3ohI’m in the market for a rower. If it feels the same as a C2, stores the same or in smaller foot print and is cheaper than C2, then I don’t see a point in buying a C2
Have a model C since the mid 90s. Many, many millions of meters. Replaced the flywheel cage once, handle once, seat and rail assembly once and upgraded to the PM 5. Flywheel, chain and shock chords still original. No reason that the Rouge should exist.
I never thought my diy stationary bike could be beat until the jack-stand broke and it propelled me through the drywall. I’ve learned to “leave it to the professionals.”
true. I'm not even sure why Rogue or others bother making a rower. Assault makes a good rower and someone was messaging me about the quandry of a slightly discounted (used) c2 vs a deeply discounted Assault Rower. If someone is only interested in the exercise (does not care that they are not on the official tracking monitor), a substantially discounted Rogue or Assault could make sense. But if they're around the same price as the c2, might as well get the c2.
I picked up a used C2 a few years ago (original model D) and wrapped it with vinyl wrap from amazon to give it a custom look. That thing has been so solid over the years. It just WORKS. Rogue is gunna have a hard time convincing current C2 owners to switch over.
I have the rowerg for 2 years and the bikeerg for 1 years, I love them so much that they make me want to make some space for a skierg. Before buying them i hated Cardio so much.
Does Rogue sell spare parts like Concept 2 does? Saving $100 is not worth the loss of parts availability for a product that is supposed to last a life time if you maintain it properly.
This is probably similar to PowerBlocks vs. Nuobells in that while the operation of Nuobells are slightly better than PowerBlocks, more people in the home gym community are going to have PowerBlocks at the moment because you can easily find them second hand for far less cost than a brand new set. The Rogue Echo Rower may be better than the C2 Rower w/PM5, but when you can find C2 PM5s second hand for far less than a brand new Rogue, that's still going to be the choice for a while. Also in doing the comparison for storage, for those who aren't aware, you can break up the C2 into 2 parts. That's a key aspect of the storage capabilities and perhaps a pro for some people over the Rogue.
Great review as always Coop! You should try and get your hands on a Rep Athena Wall Mounted unit. Been looking at this option as a space saver for a garage gym and would love to hear your thoughts!
I like that it folds as opposed to the C2. Though I do have a xebex rower 2.0 and I think I like the way the xebex folds more than the way the rogue echo rower folds. However obviously the rogue and C2 have better monitors though that isn’t too important to me, the xebex monitor gives me all the info I’m interested in.
How bullet proof are those quick release latches going to be? Needs to be more that £100 cheaper to make me not get the C2. Do love the folding feature though.
I have a Concept 2 in my home gym that I love, but just because of the Rogue Rower's space saving feature would make me buy it OVER the Concept 2 if I could do it over again (which I didn't buy my Concept 2.. my wife did as a Christmas gift around 5 years ago). But like others have said, I wouldn't get rid of my C2 for the Rogue.
Coop I love the content so keep it coming! My question is this-will the rogue rower be accepted for use in the CrossFit Open? I’ve asked Rogue and was assured they would get back to me but nothing back. I want the new rower but am concerned to sell our C2 and get the Rogue only to find out it won’t be acceptable for use in the Open; especially in the quarterfinals which my wife usually does. Hope you can’t get an answer for me my man! Cheers
Would be interested to see if you can find someone who has never used the Concept c2 and put them on this one first. Let them use it for a while, then have them try the c2 and see what they think...🤔
I just can't justify switching. Already have my C2, and it works great as is. The straps on the Rogue are nice, but that's the only feature I'm seeing that's a real improvement. I can see some people caring about being able to fold it up and move it, but I keep mine stationary. Other than those 2 features, it seems like it's just a C2 clone. Not exactly peaking my interest much. The Rep Rower, on the other hand, looks very interesting. Can't wait to get a full review on that one when it releases.
I’m kinda caught in the C2 ecosphere until someone makes a paddle adapter for the rogue. Given that does the monitor have a force curve function (most underrated feature by far) and is there a drag function for anyone wanting to set a proper water resistance? Any comparison going just by damper is questionable.
Is the seat on the Echo rower similar to the textured foam pad on the Rogue 3.0 bench? I find the pad to be a bit too firm on the 3.0 adjustable bench.
Love mine, got it in day one. Love it more than the concept 2 for several reasons. For those who love the concept 2 there is zero reason to buy this. My only complaint is the phone holder on the rogue echo is not large enough. Does not fit my ultra s24 in otterbox case.
Thats frustrating af! I have an s24 ultra also and would be maddening that they didn't make it a 1/4" bigger to accommodate. Watching a movie during a long row is crucial!
@Coltrane45 my workaround for it to fit is to take the rubber layer off the otterbox case and it fits snug. If you have the otterbox commuter it might be fine since it is slimmer or if you have a slim case in general you might make it. Just the otterbox defender case on it will not fit as is
I don't get that foot strap. As soon as more than 1 person uses the rower, u will always need longer to adjust it. That it is wider may feel more comfortable at first, but limits your foot flexibility - there is a reason why it is like it is on the C2. When rowing half the way (like Coop) it may not matter ;-)
My C2 has the stock led display which is about the size of the rogue led display in this video. COop why does your C2 have such a large monitor on it. Is that a add on or upgrade?
