Watching from my ancestors land I maself am from Scotland from birth makes me feel ever so proud to watch I Thank You dear sir for your tour Hope to get to see such places SomeDay >
I'm new to your site, Its the first time I've heard someone talk of the Roxburgh Castle. I hope to travel to Scottland soon, It would be amazing to see where my family originated from. I hear it's just rocks now, but to me, rocks touched by family. 😊
I am sure that Roxburgh Castle was where King James ii helped phyisically to build and was also sadly killed in a cannon accident at a later Shauna Roxburgh-Hall
Awrite mark. Right now I feel like a stalker coz I need to comment on your video again. Dude yer videos are absolutely brilliant I keep tuning in when my boy's are are settling down and just want to say thank you Mark. I would love to to come with you one day and be yer camera man. Thank you very much for the brilliant work you have done for Scottish history, 👍👍👏👏
@@MarkNicol123 I live in scotstoun in Glasgow Mark. I've always loved my Scottish history and spent years castle bagging but never on the border of Scotland. I think I should have driven south rather than north lol. Anyhoo maybe one day we can get together and go visit some of the places in your videos. Brilliant Mark thanks very much for the excellent videos my friend. Frrreeedooomm lol.
My family was descendant from the Cessford Kerrs, on my grandmothers side. She was a Kerr. We researched to find that our family were Lords of the castle and even born there. Many lived among Roxburgh as well. My father and I are going next year to visit the castle and walk in our families footsteps. Great video!
The Fast Castle site is spectacular. It's good that some of the towers are being preserved: Neidpath, Fatlips, Smailholm. I've read that the unique terrain of the Scottish Borders, dotted with Carboniferous Era extinct volcanoes, has resulted in the highest concentration of ancient hill forts in Europe.
Great video. Mark you should do a video about the bishop of Glasgow's palace in Acrum or the village of Sprouston which was burnt to the ground several times.
Unfortunately there's nothing left to see of the bishops palace. Historic Scotland did a dig last year and found some of its foundation stones. Would be an interesting bit of history to research though. It was sited on the hill to the right as you go over the wee bridge to Ancrum. Plus not many people know about it, so they may find a video about it of interest.
Fascinating Vid. I visited Fast Castle a few years ago. It was an overcast day but what a spectacular location ! Mind you, that walk back up the hill (groan).
The pictures of Mel Gibson in his T shirt and kilt would have looked nothing like how Wallace would have looked at the time. Kilts were not invented until the 16th century and Wallace would have been clad in chain mail, and steel helmet.
cheers Ford. Aye I never knew about Selkirk Castle either, but the documented evidence is all there from the English, amazing. it cost £1500 by the way, which apparently was a huge amount of money back then.
Mark Nicol great video man interesting history told in a great way haha like you wer off yer nut lol.. joking aside your a good presenter could watch that for hours. im originally frae hawick and into my history. great vids man need to hook up next time in the borders
It almost sounded like you said Margret Trudeau(wife of Canadian prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau) came to marry king James, did someone invent a time machine I don't know about
Did James Graham Marquise of Montrose have anything to do with the Boarders ? I think Andrew Murray was a far greater patriot than Wallace. No one seems to talk about him much. Sorry l find the Mel Gibson Character total hogwash.
These videos are telling me more Scottish history than I got at school

We never got any Scottish history at school you know why.
No ....probably something to do with the union between Scotland and England.
Excellent
