People are going to get seriously spoiled on that adjustable grip. I wouldn't be surprised if Sailor didn't start putting it on more pens in the future.
I hope so. I haven’t bought my Tuzu yet, but I know I’ll like it. I don’t use a triangular grip and the LAMY grip doesn’t bother me, but having an adjustable grip just to make it as comfortable as possible is appealing.
I'm just getting into fountain pens, later in life, I'm a lefty and have always shied away: I absolutely love all that bright happy looking stuff available when getting fountain pens.

I had a Parker fountain pen when I was 9, but a jealous classmate got a hold of it and broke it. 30 years later, I was debating on getting a Lamy XL, but then by chance heard about the Tuzu. I'm EXCITED. It's going to help with my hand tension when writing, so that's a plus, too. OAN the Goulet guys are all so handsome, goodness!
Hi Drew! Thanks for the rundown of new items! Will probably get a Tuzu at one point, but I always tend to wait until the initial rush is over. Plus I kind of like the Mint Green one and it's out of stock already! Will be fun to experiment with as I am a Left-Handed writer, and it would be fun to see if a different grip angle would be beneficial. The ink is neat and there are several awesome colors! I just like the name of Bah-Humbug!! Those new pro gears are slick! A nice classic look, there! Also that Delta is pretty slick! I like that it is not FLAT black and has that sheen. Also, the gold trim and interesting ink window color gives the pen some pops of color. In addition, the price isn't terrible! Have a good weekend, Drew!
In the starter pens video, you said some people don't like the look of the Lamy Safari. I thought, "yup!" I'm kind of impressed with the Tuzu; it moves towards what I'd personally wish the Safari looked like. If Sailor starts with the collectable colour editions, I might be even more interested.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t. The red and blue are already seasonal colors, I’m sure they saw the success LAMY has with the Al Star and Safari and thought to replicate it.

I don't think they're even considering the Safari as direct competition. But, they're screwing it already, a friend of mine who is Sailor official distributor for Mexico was told they're not planning to sell this pen anywhere in Latin America, this one would easily outsell any other starter or low cost pen for sure 🤦
Delta Duna Matte Black looks like it came from an Armani Code Profumo gift pack. Designed as a black tie fountain pen, fits in an evening event nicely.
Got my Tuzu yesterday and have been experimenting with the grip. I'm a lefty and it has allowed for several options. As Brian has mentioned, I too, hold up closer to the thread area when using the broad nib. It's not as broad as my Kaweco sport (broad) or my Lamy Safari (broad) but I like the fact that this is a fatter pen than any of my others. Glad I ordered on day 1. Looks like all the broad nibs are sold out for now!
Love all the plain non-colors! The flashy ones are eye-catching but the more subdued solid colors are nice to work with day in and day out over the long term.
You missed Tinsel, but everything else from my "must have" list from the 2023 Inkvent you nailed. Good thing, too, I'm almost out of Glacier (which is awesome with a splash of Shin-Kai).

I don't think I can survive without a full bottle of Sugar Snap from Inkvent. It's the perfect olive-y green and my little Inkvent bottle is getting low. Does it count if one person requests it but is very dramatic about it? 😂
The Parker ‘75’ had a full 360 degree rotatable nib. It came with a small plastic tool that slipped over the nib. No disassembly required. I have two, a stainless steel version and a silver grid pattern. I write with both often.
The Cartier Must de Cartier Vendôme fountain pen from the 70s had a nib you could rotate with a tool to align the flattened body against your hand comfortably.
Sold me on getting a Tuzu, but of course, they’re all sold out except black. So, waiting for more stock to come in. Also tempted by the Sailor Pro Gear when I have money in the budget. I do love the 21 K nib on the one I already have. Thanks, Drew.
I have a Pro Gear Realo with a metal grip, and not only does it look great, it adds a nice heft compared to other Pro Gears, while the pen remains well balanced.

thoughtt kaweco put out another piston filler with a different colored ink window for a sec. turns out it's whole other company doing one in a similar price range.
3:33 personally low shimmer ink look way better than high shimmer inks in writing (unless they go full glitter pen) but boy do they not look as good swabbed
This Delta used to be made with a captive converter, it's basically a converter built inside the pen, did they change that? not a big fan of it to be honest. That Sailor Roppongi looks fire though, might add it to my collection, cheers.
My Sailor origin language ignorance in full swing, when Drew speculated pronunciation my brain assumed it's pronounced like "suits you" because of the nature of the pen.
The Taylor Swift pen! 😂 Reviews for it are heavily skewed to it not being a very great pen at all. Sounds like it be more suited as having as a collector item rather than for actual use. Liking that Tuzu the more that I see it!

Regarding the Tuzu pen, is there any particular advantage of a triangular grip that can be adjusted in 10-degree increments over a pen with a plain old round grip that can be rotated as necessary? Just askin' ...
If someone is used to pencils or ballpoints, they may absentmindedly rotate the pen out of habit, that's problematic with fountain pen nibs, so the triangle grip can help stop the rotation habit.
@@krys6461, as a sometime calligrapher and someone who's been using fountain pens since the 1960s, that was never an issue for me. Calligraphy nibs, in particular, are meant to be rotated at a 45-degree angle so that the straight part of the nib is at a 45-degree angle to the line of writing.
My two cents on your question: Yes there is, in my particular case I do a "proper" grip and the triangular section feels comfortable. BUT, also for me, it doesn't quite align with my style of writing because I hold the pen slightly rotated, having the ability to rotate the section or the nib those 10° will make it a perfect pen, for me. That's only for triangular sections, with round sections I don't have any issue at all.
@@krys6461, I'd been using fountain pens for over a decade before I ever tried my hand at calligraphy. Triangular grips are a relatively recent development (1980s?), and round sections are more accommodating to those with non-traditional grip styles.
Devil's advocate, that rotating nib/grip is a terrible idea. I can lead to getting accustomed to a bad wrist rotation/position, and once you start using a normal pen, it's going to be very uncomfortable. Like driving a car in the normal world, then visiting Britain. Plus, what happens when the plastic starts getting worn out and loose?

It's like the Buttered Popcorn of orange inks -- not too light, not too dark, not too yellow, and not too red. And it has all the awesome shading of Autumn Oak and Ancient Copper without being as light as the former or as brown-leaning as the latter.
About this video quality: the camera is flutuating the focus, perhaps dirt lens or other sensor. Perhaps not sets the focus area on camera. Suggestion: turn off auto-focus and use fixed one.
Tuzu has that tragic triangular grip. My god, how it is possible the spread of so shity idea. A thinner grip would be better but I belive you can't throw away this tragic grip. So a big NO to it.
I love your videos but please tell your videographer to turn off the auto focus and increase the depth of filed. The focus going in and out is very distracting and look kind of unprofessional.
That was all me. It wasn't a problem until I added a light to the to the sign back there. I'm going to remove that. We use the autofocus every week for the Pencast and it never does this crazy stuff. It's definitely that darn light, Thanks though! I agree - it was a mess. - Drew

BTW, since videography is my job, here’s a tip: increase your aperture just a bit for more depth of field so even if you have a wonky autofocus situation, there’ll be enough depth of field that the transitions won’t be as jarring.

starter pens aren't aimed at calligraphers though, so the legitimate advantages just might not be applicable to you

That was my fault. The auto focus (which is usually fine) freaked out after I added a light to the sign behind me. - Drew
