I went to see Charlie recently and felt the need to thank him for the inspiration he gave me forty years ago - he’s still an inspiration and a really nice person - thank you both for this.
I could listen to Mr. Charlie Waite for hours, such an inspirational and humble photographer. He reminds me that even in a world of such advanced technology and social media, the ART and BEAUTY of photography still exists.
Echoing what others have said - what a lovely man Charlie Waite is. Thank you for sharing your time with him - your appreciation of him is inspiring, as is your own craft!
Been on many Light and Land holidays over 25 years and everyone has been absolutely superb and every leader has been brilliant. Every trip I have higher and higher expectations of and very time they exceed my expectations. Light and Land is not a normal company its a family. Thank you Charlie, David W, Joe, Phil and Clive
What better way to celebrate your 100k subs than to get one of the worlds best Landscape Photographers to join you on your video. Hat off to you Adam. Congratulations on both accounts. Another top drawer video. Well done
I could have listened to Charlie all evening Adam, loved his little sayings they were gems, and his calmness as many others have said such a gentle soul. Thanks Adam for sharing such a wonderful afternoon.
Gosh, spending a day with Charlie or Joe would be a landscape photographers dream day methinks. Not in a workshop way, just out shooting and listening to their thoughts. I have seen both give talks and they both *give* in the most generous way. Most photographers would be in awe but having chatted to both they have the ability to put you at ease straight away and they - you could see that in the conversation with him Adam - as well as putting a huge smile on your face, the "man hug" said it all :)
You're right. I've known Charlie for a little while but that was definitely the experience when we first met. Joe was very similar when I joined him whilst scouting a location in the Peak District. Very helpful and supportive. He also said 'I move around the hill quickly' and he wasn't kidding!!
What a wonderful man, so articulate and completly in the moment, living it as it happens. Absolutely loved this video, thanks for sharing the inspiration 😊
Don't normally comment on videos but I though that not only was it fantastic to see the enthusiasm you had with getting to spend time with such a landscape legend, but your engagement and thoughtful questions were excellent. Well done :)
Thanks Gordon. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Being a professional question asker for all those years definitely helps in this situation.
I have to say that this is one of the best videos I have watched in quite some time. A soft contemplative conversation, with process, vision and very personable. Charlie has been a favorite of mine even though I live in the US and he is a wonderfully talented gentleman. Thanks for this.
I've loved C.W.'s work for years. I'm a big fan of the square format and I've never seen anyone consistently produce such wonderful square landscape images.
Gosh, what a wonderful man! His gentleness with the dog and birds was brilliant, that says more about a person to me than anything. Then you have his passion and not just phenomenal knowledge, but also an amazing understanding of that knowledge. I keep think of getting a Polaroid back for my Bronica. I'm not interested in a Polaroid camera, but the back sounds a good idea. *Mark heads straight to eBay* I would call you a lucky man, but as Sinatra said "Yes I'm lucky, and the funny thing is the harder I work the luckier I get". You deserve every bit of luck that comes your way. It's typical of your modesty that you haven’t mentioned these growing friendships with the British demigods of landscape photography. I remember some while back you were getting involved with an organisation which these truly esteemed gentlemen were also involved with. This has been a truly wonderful video, thank you Adam and of course Charlie.
Wow - what an enjoyable and informative video - the combination of your filmmaking and photography and Charlie Waite’s insights - there must be the potential for a series here!!
Charlie was my first landscape inspiration when he appeared on a tv program about landscape photography, which must have been 20 or so years ago and one of the places he shot was Flatford Mill. I was so inspired by it! I remember these exact words on filters: He said, if you show someone a photograph and they say - ah, you've used such a filter on that! - then you've been rumbled! I have never forgotten that and I say it to all my clients! His gentle tone makes for addictive listening and his love of the countryside and appreciation of light is truly infectious. Thank you for making this film with Charle. It was nice to see him out in an environment other than in an auditorium!
Two gentlemen with deep understanding of landscape - and the human element of sharing it. Thank you for this. (Oh - you did get a lot of the light and the composition)
A wonderful gift, thanks for filming your day out with Charlie. Just hearing you both talk about photography is so inspirational. Your videos are really enjoyable.
What an absolute privilege to catch a small insight of a great and creative mind; Charlie Waite comes across (to me), above all else as being a kind man. Cameras and kindness, what an inspiring combo! Super job Adam, well done and thank you for sharing.
Always love your videos, but there was something extra special about this one. The way Charlie speaks about the process of creating an imagine is awe inspiring.
One of your best Adam - Thank you. I'm an old landscape photographer so have 'followed' Charlie's ideas and thoughts for many years but it is still engaging hearing him talk about capturing an image. Thanks also for giving him the space to do most of the talking. Well done.
I could sit here and listen to Charlie talk about photography all day. He epitomizes the idea of looking at photography’s art rather than only jounalism.
Fantastic video thanks! Charlie is a huge inspiriation to me. It always feels to me as if Charlie is incredibly in tune with nature. So composed, compassionate, gentle and kind - especially so when it comes to Mother Nature.
Adam, any time spent with Charlie Waite is educational enjoyable and rewarding, Charlie has the knack of explaining difficult technical information, being it a subject matter or just plain Photography in an easy understandable fashion. Charlie’s articulate words of knowledge come with a calm and easy way, usually with a famous quote or quotation. he reminds me of Ansel Adams who was always making profound analogies to simplify a complex matter . I was lucky enough to meet Charlie at a talk he did in Northallerton at Joe Cornish’s gallery. Charlie is a rare Maestro, Educator and Virtuoso of Photography. Something the Photographic Industry is now sadly lacking A meeting with Charlie Waite makes the photographer more confident, reassured and even keener to get better results regardless of no matter where you are in your learning curve, be it a keen amateur or full time professional. I am sure you had a great day both on and off camera! Regards Paul Richards.
Such a great video and what a scoop for the channel too be in the company of Charlie one of the worlds great landscape photographers, I cannot get over the charisma of the man you tend to hang on his every word and learn so much, magical guy, brilliant image maker.
I did a workshop with Charlie last year and it was an absolute treat. Not just for his knowledge but he's such good company and has a great sense of humour. He is also very encouraging too and genuinely takes an interest. BTW 2.30 whoever created that structure has a sense of humour.
What a fantastic day you must of had with this legend of photography, so insightful. The idea of just turning you back on the scene when reviewing makes so much sense when you think about it, thanks Adam.
Charlie is one of a select band who really mastered British Landscape photography in the days of film photography, which was so much less forgiving than today. Respect, sir.
What a humbling and emotive video, those quotes from charlie will stay with me forever. I could really feel your admiration for him in this. Thanks for sharing. I actually found you through listening to photo nerds podcast on spotify, love hearing you guys ramble
Fantastic!! Charlie seems to be one of those people you could sit and talk with for hours upon hours!! Thank you Charlie, for the words of wisdom (nature suspended...). That will have a solid place in my next blog!
Thanks for sharing, it was really good to see how Charlie approached the subject, a handheld frame, old polaroid back etc.....Great vlog thanks for sharing!
Well Done by both you and Charlie. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this and will definitely save it for future viewing. Thank You for sharing and Thank You Charlie.
Adam, thanks for making this video with Charlie Waite, I have been an admirer of his work for a long time so it was a lovely surprise to see him join you on a shoot. Best wishes Peter.

Adam, great video. I really like the way you have structured your channel lately. Thank you for sharing with us such a wonderful experiences with other great photographers.
9:11 brings me back to college shooting Polaroids and medium format film. Loved doing that and working in the darkroom. I'm Now fully digital, but I'm glad I had that taught to me, way back in 1998, during my college years!
I too prefer the beard. My wife has been trying to get me to shave for months now. Loved the video Adam. Absolutely so inspiring to see you with a veteran photographer such as Charlie. Hope to see more videos like this. Well done mate.
Awesome thx for this, its so great to see that the best photographers are so free of ego and so very humble. I guess when you are capturing nature , its awesomness slowly erodes away any ego. I also really appreciated how Charlie could walk away from a composition when he felt it would not do it justice to not capture it at its best, that is just gold that is. And he even has a sense of our mortality in that its ok if we dong geg it , someone down the road after we are gone will. Truely inspiring. But i think you did get a very nice image in the end there , and there to is a lesson we are all at diffent points in our journey and bring to what we see our experiences and so within the one landscape many stories can be composed and told.
I went to see Charlie recently and felt the need to thank him for the inspiration he gave me forty years ago - he’s still an inspiration and a really nice person - thank you both for this.
What a class act! The humility, wisdom and friendly demeanour speaks volumes about the man.
Absolutely
Have to say I really like this video
Charlie's insight is truly amazing
A breath of fresh air as the saying goes.
What a lovely guy Charlie is.
Thanks Gary. It is inspiring spending time with Charlie and I am all the better for that experience.
