    The "making of" helps explain it more (plus its funny to watch, they find the fat suits hilarious) but you're right, Dominika. When you have everything in excess, what's left? So they return together to perform here, because making music together is all that matters

  • @peekaboosue
    @peekaboosue ปีที่แล้ว +19

    The song describes the band's disaffection with fame and money.
    In "The making of Keine Lust" Lead guitarist (Richard Z. Kruspe) said:
    "You know, after all of these years we're full-up! Fame, success, money. We don't want to do anything anymore! Nothing! That's the idea in the song. We've returned to the starting point again. We just want to make music again. We don't want all the circus that goes with it anymore. So, we meet up again, one more time, for one more performance - just to make music together. The fact that we are fat is just symbolic for excess. It's really just about returning to the beginning."

    I keep it short....the song is about the over saturated society we live in

      they describe it in the making video that the song is more about being fed up with everything, the excess, and not getting a feeling from anything anymore, hence the no desire part.

    All translators get one sentence in this song wrong. They translate "Ich bin schon lange kalt" with "I've been cold (frigid)", but this makes no sense. Two sentences earlier he sings that he counts the flies, then he touches himself and then he realizes that he is cold. In German the word "kalt" has several different meanings: it can mean cold (temperature), cold (frigid) or dead ("Der ist schon lange kalt" means "He is dead for a long time") and if you translate "Ich bin schon lange kalt" with "I'm dead for a long time" then these three sentences suddenly make sense.

    • @i_can_c_u_2295
      @i_can_c_u_2295 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could mean „gefühlskalt“ so like unfeeling or ungracious. That’s another meaning of kalt.

    • @OGTK00
      @OGTK00 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They don't translate it wrong. You are not supposed to do the interpretation in translation, except when it is absolutely needed and you can't translate and make sense otherwise. That's what I learned while studying translations and that is my opinion too. You can't "pervert" the translation with your interpretation.
      You have to remain as faithful as possible to the source. So translate as close as possible to the source material, but have it still make sense. Does it make sense here? Yes! Then where is the "mistake" in translation?
      In this case, translating "kalt" to "cold" works, because "cold" also signifies "dead" in English but you do not feed the consumer of the translation the interpretation, but give him the tool to figure it out and make the connection himself. "A cold body" means "a dead body", a body that lacks the temperature.
      You just chose to interpret the "cold" literally and then you are angry at the translator for not feeding you your interpretation of the translation, but that is not their job. It is not the translator's fault that you did not look for the "figurative" (so to say) meaning of "cold".
      What you propose not only is against translation, it's also against Rammstein, as the basic principle on how they operate in most of the songs I heard from them is: give you the pieces of the puzzle, give you a rough picture and let you interpret it how you want, make you think about it, discover on your own. That's the beauty of it. Unlike others who simply say "Oh, I love you so much" (or something like that) they will give you something that would symbolize love and let you figure what kind of love it is and all the other details while throwing you small hints.
      Multiple meanings exist in other languages too, you know? I am so tired of people "finding mistakes" where there is no mistake instead of appreciating that someone took the time to actually make this available to the people who do not speak German. Like - yeah, if it was a legit mistake then sure but this is not the case here.
      And yeah, I know german, I know that "kaltmachen" literally means "to kill someone" and English doesn't have the literal meaning of cold to equal death, but you can find english poetry where the cold symbolizes death, so the figurative meaning of death does exist.
      Or like in phrases like "You will only get X from my COLD, dead body", cold is used to underline the death -> the fact that the person would never get that thing while he is alive and even "dead", he will still keep that thing until he is "cold" -> because the temperature signifies life and the coldness death. So, it basically means that until he gets death-cold, he will fight.

      @@OGTK00 i am German and i learned over the decades that it is sometimes hard to translate a German text into the English language. If you want to translate a German text into English, you have to do it sentence by sentence, but always stay in context, because otherwise the translation quickly becomes unintentionally nonsense (Google Translate is famous for this error). For example, if you want to translate a text with 20 lines, the first line can already determine the meaning of the last line and in this case the counting of the flies determines the meaning of "being cold".

    • @OGTK00
      @OGTK00 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BerndFunken Cool that you are german. Unfortunately I saw many Germans that think that their language is the end-all be-all, especially Rammstein fans.
      It is hard to translate a poetic text from German to English. It is hard to translate a poetic text from English to German. It is hard to translate a poetic text from French to Italian. It is pretty hard to translate poetry in general (at least the good one), and Rammstein's poetry is top quality most of the time, excepting songs like Herzeleid, which are pretty simple.
      You have to stay in context but you don't have to do the interpreting for the reader. You have to find words that fit into the context but also in the original, words that transmit the same feeling. If the author doesn't say "I am dead", he does so for a reason and a translator shouldn't pervert/betray the author's work/thought/vision unless the translator cannot find any other way around it.
      As I said, in this case, the word "cold" works perfectly because it does not interpret the poetry for the reader but transmits the feeling the author was going for. He does not say he is dead, he implies it, and that is what the translator must also do. As you said, the flies only add to that realization in english.
      "Oh he's been cold for so long that flies have gathered" => implies death without saying it.
      That's the beauty of art. That's why you go see a picture made by a famous artist, because it implies something, it makes you think. That is what poetry is. People wrote a poem about dying, but they don't say "I am dying", they go like
      "The winter, cold, is coming
      Everything is white and frozen
      I have to go on a last journey", etc.,etc. I am not a poet but I think you get the idea.

      @@OGTK00 wait a second. In this Video the word "kalt" is translated with "cold"? If yes, then forget my answer. Last week i ranted in the comment section of a reaction video in which the word "kalt" was being translated with "frigid" (which makes no sense in the context of the lyrics). I suspect that I have mixed up these two videos.

As your wife said experience of a lifetime. I was supposed to see them in Chicago, with my daughter at the open air theater, 3 day festival, relatives came into town we couldn't go. Regret to this day, but i often wonder if we did, they would have been scraping us off the pavement after 3 days, ozzy was supposed to be there as well as korn among others.. whew that was some serious partying you can bet...Oh to be young again....

    [Verse 1]
    I do not feel like
    I do not feel like
    I do not feel like
    I do not feel like
    I don't feel like not hating myself
    Don't feel like touching me
    I would like to masturbate
    Don't feel like trying it
    I would like to undress
    Don't feel like seeing me naked
    [Refrain]
    I would like to be with big animals
    Don't feel like risking it
    I don't want to leave the snow
    Don't feel like freezing to death
    [Verse 2]
    I do not feel like
    I do not feel like
    I do not feel like
    No, I do not feel like it
    I don't feel like chewing anything
    Because I don't feel like digesting it
    Don't feel like weighing me
    Don't feel like lying in fat
    [Refrain]
    I would like to be with big animals
    Don't feel like risking it
    Don't feel like walking off the snow
    Don't feel like freezing to death
    I just lie down
    And again I count the flies
    I touch myself listlessly
    And soon realize I've been cold for a long time
