Winston Churchill made a very important statement about writing-he said it all about the sentence; I stayed so long in the English school system that I learned how to write a proper sentence. Most dyslexic children are never taught to write a proper sentence.
I watched your video and enjoyed it very much. Being Dyslexic myself I understand school children not wanting to participate in a Standing Spelling Bees. I would skip school on days we were going to have a spelling Bee. I was so embarrassed, and I now blame the school system for putting me through all that embarrassment. I have gotten over my resentment through the years, but trying to make it through life not being able to spell is tough to say the least. I want to thank you for working with Dyslexics, there's not many in that field of teaching. FR
+FirstReviewer Thanks for the comment FR!! Glad you enjoyed the video. Getting the word out there about dyslexia is key to helping. Sorry to hear that your experience at school wasn't the greatest. It so often is the case for kids with dyslexia which is a shame.
We may be on the Right Track at this time, or let's say a better awareness. I am thinking about starting a Phonemic and Phonological School at this time. FR
I took your test: my results below, Elephant - Gray, big, tuss, tail, Truck, black eyes Home - outside only, School - brick building outside only, Book - hard cover, only, Pencil - yellow sharp, The - Saw THE (all caps) And - Saw AND (all caps) Was = Saw confusion is spot on, and believe me I know first hand.
I take it you shot this video in front of teachers. It is so hard to teach teachers about dyslexia, so my hat is off to you. .. All of this begins with the Alphabet. .. Until we learn to keep pencils out of the hands of the very young dyslexics we will just keep delaying the spelling and reading abilities of dyslexics. What Program did you learn that helped you in the United States.
+FirstReviewer Yep - this video was part 2 of a 3 part seminar about dyslexia. Check out the course here dyslexia.com.au/ This part 2 was done for teachers, and we were so happy because the hall was full of them. So many teachers want to learn more about dyslexia - the sad fact is that University's don't teach the new teachers about dyslexia very much at all. We had one teacher tell us that they got less then 10 minutes about it in a lecture, and even then it was not detailed and incorrect.
Although I am now going to a College at 71 years old, it seems to me that most Colleges and Universities, depend heavily on Internet Classes? Not being on-site in a class leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to learning depth. Thanks and have a Great Day! FR
