  • Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s rationale for not lifting the ban on nuclear power is “hilarious”, according to The Australian’s Contributing Economics Editor Judith Sloan.
Ms Sloan joined Sky News host Chris Kenny to discuss energy in Australia.
“I thought his rationale for not getting rid of the ban was hilarious,” she said.
“Which was to say, we wouldn’t want to get rid of the ban because those investors might be looking for government money.
“Excuse me? There’s one estimate that puts the annual subsidy to the renewable energy sector at $16 billion per year.”

The new GreenPower regulator which is another invention of this government or state governments as they are the ones involved. The regulator will regulate where the power came from and ensure it's a a green energy source so they can add 5-8 c/kW on your bill if you opt for guaranteed green energy. The GreenPower will determine whether the energy is green or not. Why would you opt for higher price of renewable when you are on the skid row and two they are realising that renewables will cost more. Eventually all these idiots will see to it that the fossil fuels generators will run into ground and everyone will have wear an extra tax of 5-8 c/kW. Future planning our demise to pay even more. So I don't how they going to do this as electrons don't have labels on them saying I am green please add surcharge. Oh just add another layer of controllers that increases the complexity and of course the cost.

For those who are anti-nuclear where do you think the isotopes for your medical nuclear scans comes from?
That is Lucas Heights' sole output
But we can't have it for electricity can we????

The cost of transmitting lines is not calculated on the cost of electricity. That is a maintenance cost every body pays which is stable. We all know why there will not be a lift of the nuke ban. Dutton should take his proposal to the next election. We already have back up power without coal. AU is not totally reliant on coal. You need someone that knows what they are talking about instead of getting persons that only say what you want to hear.

I would like to see the Queensland Nuclear Facilities Prohibition Act 2007 become an election issue for the state elections this year. Or perhaps it is wiser to scrap it after the election. Either way, it should be scrapped. Paving the way, should the federal government ever come to their senses.

Chris Bowen and Albo will be around for a very long time I'm sad to say. Compulsory voting should be changed to allow sincere and caring voters decide who runs the country and not masses of ignorant and very green voters who don't want to vote but have to ... having their say
