    You got me dizzy was the first record I ever bought on a 78 and I still have it and that was 1957 I’m 79 now, that’s when blues was blues

      Nice to hear! Do you remember if the 45 was relesed at the same time or was it later? I understand that the 45 was the new thing and marketed as a replacement for 78 but what did you think about it at the time? Was the sound as good as the 78?

      Yas. We'se all got our talismans.
      Suckers or Salvators?
      Supporting some alternative to whatevs 'dominating the charts' or relecting, assessing , urging some over the shoulder in life as well as those touchstones by those who offered us guidance.

    I was in school back in '56 and Jimmy was on mainstream radio every day along with Elvis and Johnny be Good. Payola worked better than our current rigged music menu's.

      Thank you for the information. Trying to upload more Elvis and Chuck but they seem difficult from a copywright perspective. Haven't given up.

    My MAIN man, Mr Reed. He gets me dizzy. So much so that I ran his Fan base since 1962 after first meeting him in 1958 in Vancouver.

      Thank you. Yes, my ambition is to upload everything with best possible sound i can get out of these records. It requires a good cleaning which i described in a previouse video and the preamplifier is important.

    Fabulous! Isn't it amazing how good 78s can sound, even when they look worn? Wow, I'm deeply envious of your 78 Ortofon SPU! 😮 (Not to mention that beautiful Thorens - I have one myself which I might get refurbished and built into a plinth one day, but for now I'm happy with my Garrard 301.)

    • @acghifiaudio-vinyland78rpm53
      @acghifiaudio-vinyland78rpm53  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they sound good. This cartridge is the Ortofon type C, before SPU, and it was sold with several needle cuts. This has a 90 mu grinding refurbished by a company in UK. I use it on records that are worn. Have not yet found a modern cartridge that sound as good, not even new Ortofone and they are max 65 mu. I belive the 301 and 124 are equivalent but you can tell us when your 124 is done and you can compare.

      Don’t feel bad there Marcus: in 1962, I had a priceless baseball card collection with cards dating back to the late 1800s !!!! My family moved from Jamaica , Queens to Bayside , Queens. They must have felt that the move was going to be too much for me or they just wanted me out of the way, so I was sent with a friend up to a sleep away summer camp. When I returned to the new home, my baseball cards were gone . A bunch of other stuff too . . That collection , today?? (I don’t even want to think about it) hahaha

      @acghifiaudio-vinyland78rpm53  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad I'm leading you back in right direction :) Don't get to hanged up on Thorens, there are plenty of other good players. I choose Thorens for 78 because it's very practical and there are plenty of spare parts.

    Jimmy Reed's singing style must have inspired Mose Allison. Their phrasing was quite similar.

  • @TheShamblingUnknown

    What about that tone arm ? You build it yourself ? Looks separate to the deck ...

    • @acghifiaudio-vinyland78rpm53
      @acghifiaudio-vinyland78rpm53  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All these Thorens an most others are built for shorter arms. Armbords are replaced to accomodate longer arms such 12”. Guess only a few American arms and some transcription arms are longer. This is a SME 3012 serie II with a replaced counterweight for SPU style cartridges that are heavy.

      @acghifiaudio-vinyland78rpm53  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@paulluchter137 I try to never cut of anything. If I have it is by mistake. Copyright detector detects in any part of a song. Cutting of the end does not change anything. But cooyright is no problem anymore. The only thing is that no copyright material can be monetized. Revenue of eventual commercials goes to the copyright owner. Thats a new deal since some years. I don’t care because I only do this for fun, not for money. Thank you for your comment.
