I recorded the takeoff and then stopped, but restarted as soon as I heard the emergency callout, so the radio from LiveATC is shifted in time and may not be representative of what's happening at that moment?
That’s definitely my (and probably most pilots’) biggest fear while flying: engine problems. Glad he was able to make it back to the runway. I was flying with my dad several years ago and our manifold pressure dropped to 0”. Luckily it was just the gauge that went out. 😂
In "Sagittarius Rising", in the event of engine failure just after takeoff, the advice was never turn back for the strip but try for a field. The turn would cost you too much energy.
"experimental" just means it wasn't built by a certified factory, you can buy a kit with all the parts and build it yourself and it's still called experimental.

Sounds like a Rotax engine with gear drive. Maybe two stoke? I like the take off roll. No JATO needed there!!
respect to pilot for sticking the landing, making correct split secons decisions in a stressful situation is not easy
I’m glad the pilot was ok!! Whew!! I think I’d retire after this.

“Left traffic for 31”?😮
Whew. Scary lil small plane (to me who knows nothing, anyways lol)
Oooo, I'm first. Also, thank goodness that person is ok
do you have any clue of what they were experimenting? the sound is a bit odd but thats certanly just the microphone
