I'm RN 15 years in the industry, I Just recently started to get my" money right" raking in 20k monthly from my 2 Jobs and investments after living paycheck to paycheck for a long while. I plan on growing my passive income and retire soon enough to follow my passion. My story & hers is proof that not matter how much you make anyone can go bankrupt when they're irresponsible with their money. I didn't get education on personal finances from my parents or in school and I learnt the tough way. I wish money management is taught in schools for the younger generation. Live within your means, budget, save, and invest!
I've been highly inspired to become a better person watching this video and reading thank you 🙏 I just got a new nursing job with higher pay, how can I put the little more coins to good use. A few tips for a young nurse ?

@@sandramish2229 I made sacrifices for the greater good. Cut down expenses, frugal living, learnt to budget, save, When done properly, investing increases wealth, piling up so much in the bank will yield only 0.1percent! let your money work extra for you. Thank God that I am a nurse and I am not broke. I live way below my means. I drive a 2007 Prius, do my own hair, buy clothes from thrift stores, do not eat out, cook all my meals and budget and monitor my spending. I don't have to work overtime. That's the key folks: LIVE BELOW YOUR MEANS.
She’s spitting straight facts. I finally got my act together in my early 30’s . Started a budget. Paid off my $62,000 nursing student loan. Paid off my used car. I am typing this on an iPhone 8. I contribute to my retirement and save for my future. I have a nurse friend who is very broke. She has 2 new cars and takes lavish vacations. I plan to quit working someday. My vacations are modest and I don’t like flashy things. She showed me her $200 sunglasses and I nearly spit my drink out. I have dollar tree sunglasses in my car but I have $400,000 in retirement. 🤷🏽♀️. I’m almost 50. She came to show me the car she bought for her daughter brand new and I heard her say that if her daughter doesn’t get scholarship they might have to sell the car. Meanwhile I got my daughter a paid for beater and she started college with $20,000 in her college fund that my husband and I saved. She just finished her first year of college debt free because my daughter did get scholarships. 🤷🏽♀️
Loveandjoy, thanks so much for honesty and transparency. Transparency like this is needed. Trust me I’ve seen it ALL!! Congratulations on your success, and yes get your daughter through college DEBT FREE!!!! Thanks for watching, and commenting 😊❤️
A lot of good thoughts and it applies to everyone. My GF who worked as nurse for 30 years, lived within her means, bought her home instead of renting. invested her money, built a solid retirement fund. She retired at 58 with a net worth over 2.5 mill.
@@Literallyarealhuman So nurses are so easily influenced. My GF who drives a Mercedes, but only after she built an investments of over 2 million, not including her current home or retirement accounts which would push her well into 3 million zone. She would tell me about some nurses complaining about their financial situation while driving around in their Mercedes, Beemers, Teslas, Porsches, Land Rovers, etc. While at the same time making $5000+ in mortgage payments, taking expensive vacations, buying designer uniforms with matching shoes. Forced to work extra days and OT to make ends meet. While other co-workers in their late 20s already having an investment portfolio of over a million.
I'm a 60+ year old nurse. I've seen generations of young smart talented nurses start their career. They usually buy a luxury car with a seven year loan, then a purebred dog, then a husband and a fancy house. They spend a fortune on cosmetic treatments, hair care, skin care, fancy weddings and expensive vacations. They end up working 2 jobs and tons of overtime. Meanwhile, I'm plugging along in my same scrubs and used car piling up cash for retirement. I paid cash for my daughter to go to college. I may be boring and the subject of ridicule from the young ones but I have no financial worries. You have great advice Tawanda! and yes, I don't even own a purse! If it can't fit in my scrubs pockets it stays home.
Honey do you! I’m with you. I’m still driving my 10 year old Kia and I just smile as I park next to the ones with “status cars” or “middle class cars” because I am happy 😃 I don’t have their car note. I had breakfast one day with a former coworker who happens to work a lot of overtime and she said “what kind of purse is that?” I said “the $40 dollar kind!” 😂
I was an RN for 9 years (now NP) and I ONLY worked 32 hours (2 12’s and 1, 8 hr)! I never EVER worked over time because I lived in my means and I have always been a saver!! Nurses are out her spending money fast like drug dealers and depending on overtime (overworking themselves) in the process…NO MA’AM!! I went to college to work less for MORE!!
Dinesha👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Love THIS!!!! So many have built their lifestyle centered overtime. Big mistake!! I’ve seen so many people do that! Congratulations on your success and continue to live your best life❤️ Thanks for watching, and commenting 😊
And that OT, or having two jobs where they work three 12-hour shifts per week, makes them unsafe, tired, and cranky or disengaged with patients. It’s dangerous and unfair to patients. Nurses need to be well-rested, kind, and in good humor. Truck drivers’ hours are limited for safety reasons. I think the same should apply to nurses.
Same sis!! Car paid, 401k invested, great savings, just finished NP school as a single mom to a 13yr old and worked prn! Everyone was trying to figure that out!! Save invest! I went back after slaving fir 15yrs on the floor, now I can breathe as a provider and work less.

Being a consumer....spend spend..instead of living on a budget ..i deserve new car...shopping online etc in stores on weekend..I can afford the payment..Everyone needs a budget telling money where to go instead of wondering where it went..And when people had 100000.00 why put half away to buy home ..car cash..I am grateful they deserve all they get paid and do deserve nice things...we have to educate ourselves and have a plan..blessings to all..
@@yolandawilson6619 the money issues or becoming nurses? I'm just trying to follow you. My comment, I really want to see more black men and women going into the technical side of the medical industry. The only way our problems with racism in the medical system will change for the better is if we have a bunch of black doctors and nurses we can turn to who will put the patient first. We all know about Tuskegee, but I see no other solut7than black doctors and nurses. I have had a few interesting experiences regarding healthcare and how racist some doctors can treat us. I am eternally grateful to the black nurse who came to my aid.

This was a great video. All nurses need to hear this. Because its a great luxury to say, "No," when your job call to get you to come to work on your day off and you not worried about money. Peace and health are your greatest wealth.
My daughter just graduated in nursing, and after getting her first job, I helped her make her basic budget. She's not going to make nearly the amount she thought after paying for healthcare, 15% in 401k, car savings, rent, etc. She was shocked. I showed her how long it would take to save her emergency fund and the impact extra shifts could make. She needs to make sure her regular schedule can pay the bills and she has a plan for what to do with money for extra shifts. She was so thankful and told me how none of her friends had any budget plans. Its the failure at all levels of education to not teach personal finance.
@@theoneandonlynophoney1864 @michomiza5940 If she puts in 15% she'll be far better off sooner than if she invests 5%. For 2023, the 401(k) contribution limit for employees is $22,500 ($30,000 if you are age 50 or older). Many people do contribute the maximums and ideally everyone would. What percentage that maximum amount would be really depends upon how much income you have. Invest it for the long term in a good index fund(s) and we will all be fine. The S&P500 index has averaged 9% returns for decades. Some years worse, some years better but in the long term it averages out.
I just found your channel. I have been a nurse for 27 years, and I have to say your advice is spot on! Love your honesty! I would like to add 1 more reason why nurses are broke.....we try to take care of others financially. Nurses have a "caregiver" mentality, so we tend to want to help out our lazy family members or lazy partners...My advice is DON'T DO IT. Take care of yourself and let these lazy adults take care of their own business. Your older self will thank you for it.
Most nurses were required or mandated to take the Covid shots. Many are suffering now with complications, some have already passed. So how long will they honestly get to enjoy their free time or peace? Same thing applies to cops, teachers,.pilots and other government workers.
This is soooooooo true especially among the brown/black nurses. We are trying to prove something to ppl who would care less. Financial freedom is the goal
It's absolutely every race. Just look who is camped out in line the night before the new I-phone 3 million come out. Blacks jave this ridiculous standard on other blacks. And I work hard so I blow my cash on fast cars after 401k, savings, and bills
Been a nurse for 1 1/2 year now. I am 23 years old. I do contract 13-16 weeks assignments locally 3 12's and get paid $3,500 weekly paid every friday. After 6 months of working in a hospital i quit because it pays too little i would really recommend nurses to get contract jobs if you do not want to do travel nursing or have less than 1 year experience since travel nurses don't get orientation with contract nursing i've always have 2 weeks of orientation. My mom gave me the advice to live with her until i am engaged/married to save my money i do give her $400 every month to help with groceries because i wanted to do that for her. I still have my Hyundai sedan which was already paid off from my mom when i was college, so i will be driving it until i cant anymore because its in mint condition. I think the huge take away is everyone wants to live that "soft life" "luxury era" too fast and their money ends up dwingling. Of course it is good to treat yourself but in a way you can afford too. I am so blessed to be able to save the money and so blessed my mom is giving me the advice to live with her until marriage. As she told me she wants to give me a upper hand in life since she never had that before. Also, will be taking her on a surprise trip for her birthday in August to Italy :) It's crazy how i am only 23 years old and already have 6 figures in my bank account. Thanks for the video! I will take all these advice!
Missmoch, honey you are practicing great wisdom!! The life lessons you are learning in this season are PRICELESS!! Wow amazing! I started traveling nursing late. I’m 30 and on my first assignment. I hope to save up almost 6 figures by next year May. My parents also want me to stay as long as possible at home until I am married. What is the difference between contract nursing and travel nursing? I barely got a day of orientation at my new travel job and sometimes I struggle.
@@sheaNERD She I teach budget here on the channel. Feel free to watch those videos. I will also be doing some TH-cam Lives discussing budgeting. You got this!! Thanks for watching, and adding to the conversation 😊
@@sheaNERD Good job! Never too late you got this! :) Contract nursing is where you do contracts for a hospital, clinic, facility etc where it can be anything from 4 weeks and beyond. They do offer orientation i've done 4 contract assignments and have always have atleast two weeks of training. However, i know with travel nursing it is more for experience nurses, no orientation usually and you really have to be on top of everything. I don't have much experience and my facility only required 6 months of RN experience. I know with travel nursing i've seen job positing for like 2 years-3 years. I prefer local contract nursing.
We are broke because everything costs an arm and leg and hospitals still think $30/hr is good hourly wage. Meanwhile executives make a billion dollars per year.
I agree. I have figured out that nursing should not have been the profession that I chose. I have been in nursing as LPN for over 40 years. 😮 my kids are working and making more money than me. My son 28 years old makes more that me at Walmart ( you believe that!) Walmart 😮. Sorry I am not making what I should be making. As a dedicated nurse who prides herself in caring for others. Some nursing jobs increased their income during covid. Their jobs gave them increases. Did I get an increase? Nope. I don’t spend or live above my mean’s because I don’t freaking have the money to do that with. I am broke. I go from pay check to pay check because of no choice. I don’t go out. My house is not extra and I don’t drive luxury vehicles. I don’t hang out or go with ppl because I made it a habit to not hang out with ppl so I’m always home.
@@bettybooboo2 It’s really sad that we don’t get paid no where near enough. At this point I don’t even think they are trying to pay nurses better. It’s just awful 😔
I LOVE shopping my closet. The secret is buy quality pieces, don’t not buy passing trends, do not ever ADVERTISE a label, and buy pieces that last. Pick a color palette ( you don’t need a shoe the same color as every outfit) and I have 20yo shoes that I still get compliments on.
Exactly, always comes down to how you manage finances, all the nurses I know are making great money. There’s so many diff avenues you can take in nursing, and networking. Also settling is what I see a lot of times thinking they can’t get/make better. Living to work big no no
I can definitely relate. I made $170,000 last year and went and got new cars, the apartment downtown, helping family and friends. One morning, I woke up to my power being shut off. I knew it was time for a change! I changed my spending habits, started living within my means, and started a side business. I don’t ever want to be in that position again!!!
30 years in the game here 🙋🏾♀️ This is some new school stuff. I never had any of these issues. My advice: Start a Nursing Exit plan on Day 1. You can’t do direct patient care forever. Its not physically or financially feasible.
I've been an RN for 26yrs, and can say confidently, she's absolutely right. I make 150k in the midwest, where the cost of living is low. Somehow, many of the nurses I know manage to be broke. Granted, the new ones make around 70k-80k, but at that income level, a lot of them are buying 200k+ houses, and have new vehicles. This is why money management should be taught in school. I wasn't given an education on money by my parents. Like so many others, I learned the hard way. Also, as others have said, if you live below your means, invest, and spend wisely, you'll have the recipe for financial security. It's a simple formula that few people seem to want to use.
@@exgamer07I gathered she was talking about the Midwest?? Specifically in terms of housing cost. I agree a 200K home and making 80K is reasonable. However where I live, 200K won’t get you much, a row home, or a refurbished single family in a not so good area. I have a childhood friend who recently relocated to Georgia (NOT Atlanta lol) ~ he sold his home for 250K and purchased a larger home in Georgia for 180K. I know region, area depends on how much of a home you get for 200K. But to cosign your point purchasing a home for 200K on an 80k salary sounds more than reasonable. My childhood friend was making 62K when he purchased his other home for 233k. His mortgage was just a little more than my rent ! It’s very reasonable….
I just retired early at age 52 working in healthcare for over 30 years as an Occupational Therapist. I've worked with nurses almost exclusively and have dated more than my fair share and can say I 110% agree with you. Most were single mothers living paycheck to paycheck and working at multiple facilities. My honest opinion is that financial discipline and investment strategies plays a large portion on why many are broke. My ex wife was a nurse who called me a financial control freak and would never stick to the budget. After she divorced me I double my income and even paid off my mortgage 2 months ago. Strong, independent and a man can't tell me nothing mentality will have many working into their 70's and 80's. I've seen it, and it's truly sad. God is so good.
The greatest finesse was to trick them into being "free". Other men got into the their heads, then into their pockets (luxury, designer, etc). Like most good pimps do.
I’m not a nurse but a trucker, I have to agree with you. I bought my Apple Watch after saving for it for one year, bought it brand new using Apple Cash and walked out the owner - no credit or loans. Whatever I want I pay cash for. Credit card is only for the hotel, car or whatever reservations that may come up or over the road expenses that my company reimbursed me for and I pay it off right away
Really liked your comment. When I was very young my mother taught me how to save for what I wanted and pay cash. She said to get nice things that will last even if it’s purchased one price at a time.😊
Thank you so much! I've been a nurse for 11 years and gone through all the issues you mentioned above, but now I am "recovering" and became wiser! Go, nurses!!
Have you ever thought of opening your own home health business??? I did and honey it's no stress and the money is great!!! And I run it from my house 🙏🙏 I'm not a nurse but I do have multiple trades under my belt
Too many travelers threw away the COVID money on junk. I used it to get out of a bad situation and bought a house 2000 miles away. That COVID pay was a once in a lifetime opportunity but most wouldn’t listen to me.
I’m a 63 year old retired black man who lives in America. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed your message. This not only applies to the nursing field it applies to every other field. Money management is not complicated we make it complicated due to uncontrolled wants and desires. I retired at age 57 and built a brand new house the same year I retired. My focus was one thing, live debt free as possible. Moved into new house in 2018 paid it off in 2022. Moral of the story stay clear and free of debt. You can do anything but not everything at once. I am completely debt free but that does not come overnight.
I am a nurse. I kept the same car for 15 years, until it was totaled. Had the same cell phone for 4 years. Buy clothes every 7-8 years if I have to. I started a garden and learned to cook really well. I paid my debt off, including student loans and mortgage. We live way below our means now. I thank Yahuah for enlightenment, because I use to be that person...
OMG! You’re so right! I been a nurse for 29years and I hit all your points in a positive way. I paid off two homes and dept free. I work Perdiem only, travel when I want, have an apartment in Los Angeles, that is very cheap , and take as much time off work as I want. I ate out 5 times 2022. I haven’t taken a travel job since Feb. 2023… I love my time and having no CC bills.
Thank you for helping others. I’ve never starting out with unnecessary shopping and running credit cards. It was about a better future for me and my family.
“Got to have that dream car, apartment, wardrobe and everything “ that was me as a new nurse and you couldn’t tell me nothing. I learned the hard way. Took me 8 years to pay of my undergrad loans. Now my only debt is a mortgage . Great savings and investment. I worked hard to get out of debt . I only do 3/12 days as a contract nurse. I can even do part time if I wanted to. I made sure I positioned myself in a way that i don’t have to work hard ever again. I needed that hard lesson and Im free and I have peace

@lucindamclean2635 I don't budget - too restrictive for me but do live below my means - own 2 properties as a single female. Buy high end items on clearance (always) or at sample sales. All the best!
I am a nurse too and just came upon your channel, debt free and mortgage free, maxing out my retirement accounts and hoping to retire early! I love your style and the fact that you tell it like it is. Thanks for the no nonsense content
This popped up on my timeline at just the right time. I've literally had sooooooo many nurses reach out to me, trying to figure how to get out of nursing and into tech, for all the reasons you mentioned. Not about how much you make, it's about how much you keep.
Nurses, female nurses are peculiar because the profession and the ability to work crazy hours gives them the illusion that they can do whatever they want and they don’t even need the leadership of a husband (for those who actually desire to be married). Everything she mentioned can be fixed by the good husband. He will guide her and also share in the financial burden.
@@coachielala I'm not understanding this reasoning. I work with many nurses who are single AND married and dont need permission to live life the way they want from a man. Sure, it's nice to share the burden but to some....a good man is hard to find and some dont feel the need for one. I'm married, work 2 nursing jobs and live my life the way I want. I'm all about being a blessing to my patients while making a good living so I can afford my vacations and a thing else I desire (a 93k pool, plastic surgery etc) and my husband is there to help support me and enjoy it too.
Debt free new nurse here! Cam into nursing late..I'm 43 but thankfully learned many of these lessons earlier. Thank s for putting the word out for new nurses to come😊

I just came across your channel. I’ve been a nurse for 17 years. The pay in Georgia is too low but I do agree with you. I always told my coworkers that working overtime is a waste because you pay more taxes. I always worked a separate job through an agency to make extra money. I’m not even a nurse and I know these tips are good for any working person to avoid . It’s fine to treat yourself but don’t keep acquiring new bills or debt when your income increases. The key to financial stability or wealth is eliminating debt and actually being able to save your money. Thank you for your video sis !
Honestly You may never know the value of that €1 you have until you go bankrupt, the bad experience I had last year really made me feel that our school curricula should contain more financial knowledge and education. It is never enough to have a good job, a huge salary and all the luxuries at your disposal. But saving money and investing it wisely is never a bad idea,... I learned how to invest, no matter how little, but life really believed me the hard way. Thank you for the nice video its always interesting to watch and I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life too 🙏🙏🙏
you've remind me of what someone once said "The mind is the man, the poor is in it and the rich is it too". This sentence is the secret of most successful investors. I once attended similar and ever since then been waxing strong financially, and i most tell you the truth..investment is the key that can secure your family future.
I agree with you had a senior colleague at work who was doing well but never had an investment. Unfortunately he lost his job and went from living a comfortable life to hardship. There would had been something to fall back on if he had an investment
Starting early is the best way of getting ahead to build wealth, investing remains a priority. I learnt from my last year's experience, i am able to build a suitable life because I invested early ahead this time
I urge everyone to start somewhere now no matter how small, this is literally the time for that, forget material things, don't get tempted,i became more better the moment i realized this.
yeah investment is the key to sustaining your financial longevity but venturing into any legitimate Investment without a proper guidance of an expert can lead to a great loss too
I am not a nurse. You are so right about what you say. I went to college (mom paid) and lived it up for several years amassing credit card debt. Finally came to my senses and paid it off and have been debt free for over two years. Never going back there again! You seem to echo the Dave Ramsey sentiment, "In order to live like nobody else you got to live like nobody else." I'm not going to lie. Having a new car is nice. You know what's even nicer? Saving money and buying that car in cash. I have no shame in driving an 18 year old car. Is it the nicest on the road? No. Do I look at nice cars that drive past me? Yes. Would I like a new car. Yes. Do I want a new car payment? Hell No. Bought a new car once and made payments for 6 years. Never again. Next new car I buy will save money and pay in cash. Remember folks, you don't even need to drive that new car off the lot for it to turn into a used car. As soon as you sign the paperwork in the dealership that new car transitions from being new to being used. Value drops as soon as the ink hits the paper by at least 10%. That $30,000 car you have. Yeah, you are lucky if you an sell it for $27,000. $60,000 car? Yep, that car is worth at least $6,000 less. You will be super lucky if you can sell it for $54,000. Better to buy assets than buy cars. Cars depreciate and you make payments on them. With interest. By the way, those friends you have in and even after college. You will loose touch with and not see most of them within 3-5 years. They will move on with their lives, get married, etc. Don't be jealous of them getting into car payments and living the live they "deserve" after they graduate. If you hang out with 5-6 people ten to twenty years from now you'll be surprised if you even keep in touch with 1. Listen to this woman. She knows what she's talking about.
Thanks so much for sharing, and adding to the conversation. I’ll add that a paid off car 🚘 is the best looking car on the road 🤣🤣 Thanks for watching 😁

Retired Nurse here. Mortgage and debt free. My former coworkers couldn't understand how I was able to retire early. Thanks to Covid, I was forced to retire early, because I refused to get the Jab. No garbage bill either- it's free. My electric bill runs about $50 a month. It runs about $150 during January and Feburary, due to the cold. My car registration is $100 a year for 2 vehicles. I do live in a very modest home. I could have afforded something bigger and more expensive, but did not want to have to return to work just to make mortgage payments. You would have to come up with your own budget to decide how much you need to save up. Your needs might be different from mine. I also visited the area before I moved here. I was able to estimate how much money I would need to retire and be comfortable.
Incredible advice, but you cannot depend on the system for such gems. These things really need to be learned from home. Summarized as live within your means and be disciplined
That's why it's very important that as a nurse you move from hospital to hospital, never stay at a hospital for more than 2 years. That's the trick to getting higher base pay and bonuses. If you stay at the hospital you first started working as a nurse at 28/hr then you're going to be paid very low compared to new nurses who start 3 or 4 years later compared to when you started and the new nurses will get the new market base pay which always goes up $1.5/ year so the new nurses will start off at 33/hr while you who has been there for 3 years is barely making 30/hr. But if you hop to another facility you now have those x years of experience. Now you can get the new current market base pay at 33/hr but you now have leverage to negotiate because you are experienced and can negotiate for 35/hr or 36/hr depending on how well you can negotiate. Then stay for 2 years and move to another hospital again but now with 4 - 5 years of exp you can negotiate for a 10k sign on, the new market base is 35/hr but you were already making 35/hr so now you can negotiate for even more, like 37hr or 38/hr. It's all about job hoping! Never ever stay at one place because you will always be stuck at the lowest base pay rate.
Not a nurse, but I had an instructor they gave a very similar talk to my class in vet school. Guess how many people listened.... Almost all of the ones that I keep up with since graduating 2 years ago have bought homes, luxury cars, go to fancy dinners, huge weddings and are constantly going on vacation. The average salary out of vet school is $79k so I don't know how they do it. I feel like I'm the only one wanting to tackle our debt. Some have debts of $400K! I will admit that during my first year out I didn't manage my money well but I did build up a nice emergency fund and started paying last October towards my loans. Started at $164K in October 2022 now I'm at $130 in student loan debt! I'm hoping to pay then off in 3 years.
Girl I’m a nurse and I am like going through it right now . I made all that money during Covid . Had over 70k in my account at one time . And I bought a home which was cool but now I have too many bills and taxes owed . So I stopped traveling . I was a travel nurse for 3 years and at this point it’s over saturated and not worth it with the duplicate housing expenses . I’m slowly learning how to manage making “regular” money and I will get back to a a better place . Will never put myself in this hole again
I worked at a previous job and my boss was extremely toxic. I was so miserable and felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown. I also worked overtime because the money was great. When I would get my paycheck I would spend $2,000 a month on clothes and makeup. I did it to lift my spirits because I was so miserable. Per my request, I ended up being transferred to another department and away from that toxic boss. I was so much happier and no longer spend $2,000 per month on clothes and makeup. All money ain't good money!!
Amen Cupcake!! People don’t realize how toxic jobs will suck the life out of you, and cause you to abuse your finances to help you feel better!! Thanks for watching, and adding to the conversation 😊
@@AccordingToTawanda I realized being in a toxic job or having a toxic boss is like being in an abusive relationship. It is best to cut ties and find a job that gives you a peace of mind.
Mam i worked for the postal service for 30 years. My yearly salary was between 45-59,000, no degree, divorce after 2 years, no children, they laughed at my Toyota and old truck and now retired 4 years ago after saving over 200,000 with a good 401 k(thrift savings plan). My home is payed for and I travel sometime. I never worked overtime voluntarily only mandatory.
Im a RN and have been nursing now for 15 yrs. Ive learned to live moderately. Im not caught up on getting the lastest this or that. I stay in my lane. My daughter is LPN and has been doing travel nursing since CoV-19. She has made lots of money but spend it aa soon as she gets it. She spend hundreds on wigs and name brand cloths. I try to educate her but thinks she's living her best life...
As a 13 year old practicing nurse and it being my second career Tawanda you and I see eye to eye!! Everything you said is so true. I see some of these nurses be dripped from head to toe but dont have a savings. Or they be driving the latest Benz or BMW but have to be living in their parents basement. You just earned a new subscriber here!!!
@According to Tawanda it is true. I remember years ago I'd go on IG and I'd see these nurses balling dripping and flashing for the gram. Though I was happy for them I was also saying to myself "you all giving us nurses a bad image " and when I would say this they would basically tell me to drink a tall glass of stfu. Now years later these same nurses are working ridiculous hours to sustain a lifestyle they no longer can afford because they were too busy impressing others.
I'm a new-grad RN in my early 60's with $2 million in assets and income I don't need: I say this for credibility, not to be a jerk. She's right on every point! "Discipline = Freedom" (Jocko Willink) is so true. You are too valuable and a gift to society...You listen to her and everybody wins.
As a financial counselor, I agree with her. The nurses who work as travel nurses make so much money, and their family knows it. The sense of entitlement of the kids, siblings, mama 'nem is mind blowing. These travel nurses are making in excess of $200k (especially the nurse practitioners), but they can't afford to pay down their credit cards to buy a home. Then they become so frustrated and stop working with me because of the pressure to maintain their family's lifestyle.
@@Michelle-pn9xt it's that they chose their family. Who needs their rent paid, doesn't have a car. Guilt will get you every time, and the family members make them feel bad because sometimes the nurse is earning $10k a week, so they SHOULD help. And unfortunately, those credit card balances are the result.
EXACTLY..... SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE NURSE'S IN THE FRONT and BACK!!!! I been saying this for YEARS. Nurses STAY BROKE and BROKEN!! I love this video and the message behind the video. I'm a Financial Advisor and you'd be shocked how many Financial Advisors fall in to the same traps of overspending and debt. We need to have more financial education for young men/women at earlier stages of life. The first time many people have a serious paycheck to manage is right out of school and they make terrible choices. Thanks for sharing the wisdom!
Good ideas and thanks for sharing your story! I believe everyone should Live below their means" adjust your lifest, be frugal, budget, save and invest. This helped me out as a 6 figure earner and a registered nurse. I've grown over half a million in retirement savings with this method

Don't panic, start out easy, don't buy things you don't need, budget every money, always save a portion of your pay atleast 5%, Invest from your pay check; it grows and helps you accumulate wealth easily.
No, I’m not a nurse… this is just good financial sense for ANYONE who works for their money ! Thank You for opening my 67 year old “semi retired” eyes ! 😳💚🌹
Love this video. I graduated nursing school and moved back in with my parents to pay my student loans off and listened to dave Ramsey. He saved my life. Debt free and leaving my freedom life.
The thing that opened my eyes was looking at my gross and my net income. I cut spending, paid my nursing student loans off and paid ALL my consumer debt off. A total of 40K in 1.5 years. I haven't looked back. The freedom that comes with financial responsibility is priceless!!
I’m not a nurse but I make more than enough money to live comfortably as a single dude. I am guilty of spending frivolously with the mindset “I get paid again soon so what’s the big deal” and it has literally cost me too much. It sucks to look back at your W2s, see how much money you actually pulled in and see that there is little to nothing to show for it. These tips and reminders are much needed and appreciated. Happy living, careful spending ya’ll. ✌🏾
This is true. Most nurses are broke. I’m a nurse. Been a nurse 12 years. Just bought another house less than 6 months ago. The key is live below your means. I haven’t bought clothes or shoes in over 5 years. My money goes to bills, taking care of my siblings and investments. 70% of what I make goes straight into the stock market or real estate. Live below your means. I’ve been renovating my new house since last December and I’ve not worked as a nurse since December and I’m GOOD. If you live below your means, you’ll have more money than you know what to do with. I also drive a very average car. I love this video. Your advice is great especially for new nurses doing too much too soon. I saw it in the nurses I graduated with. Most of the people i graduated with don’t have up to $2000 to their name and it’s sad.
This applies to a lot of professions. I work for the Post Office (FTR I’ve been grossing over 80K for the last 18 years) But am also divorced and pay a hefty amount in child support. Because of the child support, and other issues (primary care for my mother) I was forced to live below my means. I went to college, worked and paid my way through. Never had a large amount of debt from school. I was always taught to live below my means as a man, tighten up, be frugal, don’t spend unnecessarily. However, getting married to someone who made good money (actually more than my average of 89K) it was about a lifestyle instead of building ~ we didn’t need foreign cars, or a bigger house… we didn’t need to take multiple vacations a year. …. Especially when that someone had a large amount of SLD… …. I would say it is a “female” thing, because most females are nurses.BW are the most educated ~ so it’s across the board. Far too often, as humans we fall in love with a lifestyle and material items. The end of the day, those things aren’t necessary when building, if my ex would’ve listened we’d both be better off financially ~.
@@mobrown1198 I agree with most of what you said. Thank God I’m not married. I think that’s part of why I’m doing much better than my peers. If I’ll ever get married, she has to have her finances in order and have discipline
@@mobrown1198I've read lots of comments in this section and YOURS is 100% right. It's not a nurse issue it's a woman issue. The more money a woman makes the more she spends. I don't care if she picks up soda cans for a living. She could be a DANcer or a lawyer doesn't matter. She will spend what she has knowing or not knowing she can get it back. Very few women will purposely live paycheck to paycheck with $5k or more in checking account. If you're making $100k and broke I got no sympathy for you. It's people out here making $7.25=$14k a year before taxes. $100k is 7 national minimum wage jobs. If your checking balance says the same as the $7.25 hr person each month they deserve every repo and foreclosure they get for spending too much.

My husband was the same he has a phd in business and was driving a 2000 suv until two years ago and got his used 2020 jeep. Because we have penny pinch our 30 years of marriage. In 2 years we will both be in our middle 50’s and able to retire totally debt free. With full retirement savings saved. I totally agree time is more important than anything. Thank you for the story.
I'm not a nurse i am actually a paramedic for the past 10 years work in the ED. I noticed alot of nurses who do this and the extra overtime they do. I've been on this road to get my RN for years. If anything the journey has DEFINITELY made me redefine what prosperity, REAL FINANCIAL FREEDOM, what real luxury, and success is for me. I definitely relate big time if anything once i do get that RN I respect it now vs before
Pynklady it’s so easy for us to run up the cost of our lives only to become slaves to overtime, and jobs that keep us away from our families. Yesssss, define your own prosperity, financial freedom, luxury, and success. Reach your goals and don’t get caught up in the hype. Thanks for watching, and commenting 😊
If you do go for the RN, with your paramedic background, the best choice to make $$$$ as an RN with ER/ medic exp is flight nursing, most flight RNs are paid via milage of air transport + hourly pay, nearly all make north of $90k - $110k a year, Offtopic but girl you are gorgeous btw 😅
Don't give up. My RN journey was also long but I kept holding on and got my degree. Keep pushing forward and you will get your degree. Start saving aggressively and living way below your means before you start your nursing courses. Nursing is a beast and you will need all the time to study. Good luck with your journey and never give up. 🙏🏾
Not sure how I came across this video, but now I'm inspired to attack my student loans. I'm sick of having that debt hanging over my head. I appreciate the no nonsense reality check. Instantly subscribed. 👍🏾
Me too I'm going to knock it out and pay my house off(it's not that expensive) and I'll be debt free my car has been paid for for years and still in great condition. Then retirement can be stress free! Thanks
I’m so glad I found your channel! No God directed me to your channel! I needed to see this! I will definitely get a job and pay off my loans and bills first! Also start doing better at budgeting! Thank you and God bless you!!! 🙏🏾💙
Good luck on your LPN- RN journey. I also took the LPN- RN route. Don't follow the mistake that new Nurses make- A NEW CAR NOTE. If your car is working, keep driving it and save your money. When I graduated from LPN school, all my classmates were getting new cars and I did not follow the trend. I instead bought my first home. I am glad that I did. I have had my home for 15 years now and this is the best financial decision of my life. My mortgage is what others are paying for a one bedroom apartment. A home is an investment. A car is not an investment- it can be lost in a single accident.
Excellent break down. #12 Living above our means. Pre spending Overtime. Thinking we are essential and needed by these companies. No, no ma’am. After you are no longer needed, you are outta there. Years served doesn’t matter. Would love to see more nurses put together successful companies.
Girl you better tell them. You are speaking facts. I'm 50 plus and have been a nurse for 27 years and I know what you are saying is true. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for making this video!!! It applies to lots of the medical community, including doctors. I often see this happen to high wage earners! Don’t get caught in the trappings of a nice paycheck. I read The Millionaire Next Door many years ago. It changed the way I looked at what I earned. I paid off my school loans as soon as I could, and never carried a balance on my credit card. My rules: 1. Carry it around in your hand in a store…if you truly NEED it, get it; if you don’t, leave it. 2. No Designer bags. 2A. No expensive haircuts. 3. All you need is an outfit for a funeral, a wedding, and a few business separates. Keep the rest casual, and don’t over buy. 4. Don’t buy anything because “you deserve it”. You’ll be broke broke. And no, you probably don’t truly deserve it. 5. Drink at home. It’s cheaper and you don’t have to drive. 6. Cook at home. Eating crap food is bad for you and is costly. 7. Limit subscriptions. 8 . Invest, or you’re stupid. 9. Prioritizing sleep will keep you healthier, and keep you from making bad decisions. 10. If you are single with kids, prioritize your children. Having a bed hopping habit makes you spend more $$$ on people they aren’t worth it. Your kids will remember everything you do.

I’m a nursing student but my wife is an RN. In California, the wages are great and the loans can be paid off in 4 years if you manage your money. If you create a plan to budget. There are two main problems I see with Nurses of all ages and it’s is not loans. 1. A lot of them have the mentality of I can make the monthly payment so it no biggy. All those monthly payments start to add up after a few years. 2. Nurse by expensive cars. I know a multiple Nurses with expensive cars. One of my wife’s friends Nurses get loans for $90k cars on 7% to 10% interest rates for 8 years. They end up paying 126k for the car. That is a quarter of payment for 10 years on the average house in the US. Note, the car depreciates. The house appreciates.
Great Advice, I am a nurse and I've been one for 30 years now so since 18 years old lpn/ Rn. I learned i had to budget and not become the familys personal ATM, find multiple screams of income, find a job that will pay off your student loans, I bought a home at 28 years old a fixer upper, a used car, and didnt take expensive trips. Today I own rental property, ready to retire early and travel on a budget.I see nurses that plurge on the craziest things, Its a lot of money very quickly with bad spending habits.I buy me a designer bag once a year and will not go over a certain price and i have to work extra to buy it not take it out my savings so i disciplined myself to think abot what i was buying before i bought it, so many times i skipped over that handbag and did something else.
Thank you Mama! I’ve been a nurse for almost 20 years. All day long nurses talk about how broke they are and how much more othe hospitals need to pay them meanwhile, they’re walking into the hospital with a Louis Vuitton bags driving away from the hospital in the Mercedes.
I loved this video and your delivery. I saw no lies. I’m still in school to become a nurse but I can see the nurses around me…whew child. I think social media has ppl in a chokehold. A lot of people think they have to live up to a certain aesthetic. I do believe that with how hard nurses work and how selfless this field calls you to be that they do deserve to spoil themselves here and there, but please don’t do so to the point you have to be in your 60s still doing bedside nursing. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but I feel like that’s not the life most ppl want. You make enough money to put it to work for you so you don’t have to work forever.
You are so right!! I’m not a nurse but I am in the Manufacturing field making a good $70k+ a year now for 5 years but back then when making $30k a year working in retail living paycheck to paycheck the always going out part was killing me left and right when now thinking about it. I was spending money like there was no tomorrow and 5 years ago with a new career and promotions I stopped that and got myself all the way together and enjoying the luxury of staying home and entertain and also stopped living beyond my means and realized who am I impressing with this BS? Thank goodness for now having common sense and being savvy with my money much more than ever. Thanks for this video and I hope this will be a lesson learned for everyone cause it helped me when common sense kicked in and cursed me out.

I really like what you are talking about. I see it everyday in the hospital. Not just the nurses but all departments. Most of them eat out everyday, paying to have the food delivered. As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) I can relate with all what you have said. I might not have the same pay rate as a nurse. But me working over time twice a week get me a nice check as a nurse. I’m trying to get it together working more over time to pay off my credit card debt. Before I start to go to nursing school because I know I’ll be broke once I reduce my hours for school.
@@leonietaylor7054 what’s a lot? I’ve been a ICU RN 30 years...... what’s a lot? I also own and operate a CNA school. You must be working a lot to male what a RN makes. The average salary for a CNA in Ga, with years of experience is about 25/hr. If you worked 40 hours OT/week your gross would be around 10000/month. If I worked the same hours with a pay rate of 70-115 /hr........you do the math. A CNA working in a hospital does not make RN pay. It doesn’t matter how much you make, or what your job is. If you don’t know how to manage money, you will be broke! Also you don’t have to be broke once you enter nursing school. Do your research and you will find the money you need to make it through nursing school w/o being broke.
I began nursing as a second career at 51 years old after 27 years in accounting and administration. Nurses spoke freely about their finances to one another, and I could not believe some of the dire situations shared. Part of my disbelief was generational as my generation didn't often discuss personal finances. I learned that a number of nurses struggled financially despite being fairly well compensated. At first I was surprised that people this smart could be so foolish. I then realized that they were never taught to manage money. Their solution was to pickup an extra shift. I believe that a large percentage of nurses could benefit greatly from a personal finance course and a financial planner.

I had breakfast one day with a former coworker who happens to work a lot of overtime and she said “what kind of purse is that?”
I said “the $40 dollar kind!” 😂
I was an RN for 9 years (now NP) and I ONLY worked 32 hours (2 12’s and 1, 8 hr)! I never EVER worked over time because I lived in my means and I have always been a saver!!
Yes, I totally agree!!

Every single one of those reasons should ENCOURAGE black women into becoming a nurse. Those are all GOOD problems to have
@@hw6271 In all honesty, it's our demographic that's struggling the most with these issues.

Mom you are AMAZING!!!! Giving her this type of love and advice is PRICELESS ❤️Thanks so much for watching and sharing your story ☺️
15% in 401k is too much for a variable account prone to market losses 📉 consider index retirement accounts
@@michomiza5940 that’s what I was gonna say why are you putting 15% in that ish supposed to be like 5😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@theoneandonlynophoney1864 @michomiza5940 If she puts in 15% she'll be far better off sooner than if she invests 5%.

Thanks so much for watching and adding to the discussion ❤️
You are right, we love to take care of grown dependents.

Wow amazing! I started traveling nursing late. I’m 30 and on my first assignment. I hope to save up almost 6 figures by next year May.

There are not many houses below 200k on the market. If you make 80k then 200k is more than reasonable.
@@exgamer07I gathered she was talking about the Midwest?? Specifically in terms of housing cost. I agree a 200K home and making 80K is reasonable. However where I live, 200K won’t get you much, a row home, or a refurbished single family in a not so good area.
I have a childhood friend who recently relocated to Georgia (NOT Atlanta lol) ~ he sold his home for 250K
and purchased a larger home in Georgia for 180K.

My daughter just became a nurse.
Out of the ten pieces of advice you have, I only had 4 of them. But you are right on with the rest.
I called a mandatory family meeting with my wife and our two young adults, son, and daughter, to listen to your video. Well, let me say it opened their eyes, and you gave me, and my wife clout on what we were saying all along.
OMG!!!!!!! You Sir, are the REAL MVP!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for watching and sharing this with me. It’s not easy showing up on TH-cam putting out content that people may find offensive when you are only trying to HELP!
You literally just inspired me to keep GOING!!
God bless you and your family ❤️
I schooled my daughter about money, investing and finances and then what I didn’t know, I turned her on to a professional. This woman is on point and like she said it’s not just for nurses. I just subscribed and liked this channel.
Angela thanks so much for watching, and subbing❤️
I am an accountant & I see this pattern all the time from young professionals I work with. This is much needed!!
Thank you Marty!!
Retired Nurse here. Mortgage and debt free. My former coworkers couldn't understand how I was able to retire early. Thanks to Covid, I was forced to retire early, because I refused to get the Jab.
I lived modestly- modest home, used car, and buying clothes at thrift stores. Vacations usually were inexpensive camping trips. I also maxed out my 401 and Roth.
I did make financial mistakes, but learned from them.
Amazing! I love it!! Thanks for watching and sharing your story ❤️
You did it right and congratulations for not caving to them on the jab. We didn’t either!! Enjoy your retirement
@@dcg590 Thanks. I did not renew my license this year. I have a small part time job not in Healthcare. I live up in a rural mountain community that is in a low cost state. Life is good.
@@churchofpos2279 Where do you live dear and how much is the total cost to live there realistically? I know it's cheaper than the city but how much a person should have before they can even consider living off the grid or in a rural area? I see a lot of TH-cam videos lying and not telling about everything. Looking forward to hear your response.
@@amazonjunglez1188 I live on less than 1200 a month. I am in the Appalachian Mountains near the Tennessee/Virginia border. I used to live in California and moved from there last year. The cost of living is half of what it is in California. My property taxes run about 400 a year . My home and car insurance run about 1500 a year. I have my own water source, so no bill.
I’m not a nurse but this incredible advice can applied to many fields. This is what should be included in graduation commencement speeches.

FACTS!!!! Being loyal to these jobs will cost you financially!!!! So TRUE!!!!!! Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation 😊❤️
This comment right here is so true. Thanks your absolutely right!

And I bought a home which was cool but now I have too many bills and taxes owed . So I stopped traveling .
I know you see it ALL!!!!! Thanks so much for watching and spreading the TRUTH!!!! ❤️

Thanks for the transparency! I appreciate it❤️
This is true.
Ahh poor baby just bought a house most peoples can't pay rent boo hoo b word nurse big mad cause she should be paid more to do what a chimp can do
This applies to a lot of professions.
I work for the Post Office (FTR I’ve been grossing over 80K for the last 18 years)
But am also divorced and pay a hefty amount in child support.
…. Especially when that someone had a large amount of SLD…
Thanks for watching 😊

My rules:

@@trulymiracle When I was 18 yrs of age I suspected the government couldn’t be trusted and I was right… Look I’m not judging just pointing out the history of Uncle Sam .
The advice I never wanted but DESPERATELY NEED!
I pray it helps!! Thanks for the transparency! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊❤️
You're one smart lady, pls continue to educate these youngsters .
Thanks for watching 😊
Enjoyed your wisdom. Retired nurse of 37 yrs in a hospital med-surg. Retirement savings maxed out was my thing. Used cars, inexpensive vacations, budgeting, saving. PEACE OF MIND.
It’ll equal piece of mind ALL THE TIME!!!! Thanks for watching and adding to the discussion ❤️
I really like what you are talking about. I see it everyday in the hospital. Not just the nurses but all departments. Most of them eat out everyday, paying to have the food delivered. Most of the people I work with laugh at me, because I bring my breakfast and lunch. I really don't care, because I know what I'm working for. 3 more years and I can retire and enjoy my life. Keep up the good work.
Let them laugh!! By the time the food is delivered it’s cold 🥶 Thanks for watching ❤️
I am a nurse and working 6 to 7 nights per week to become debt free next year! I am doing exactly what you said, "Have a plan and execute it!"
Yessssss! Work that PLAN!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing your story. Thanks for watching, and commenting 😊❤️#roadtodebtfreedom
I really appreciated this friend. I’ve made all the mistakes in my 30yrs of nursing. One thing I did do right was have my daughters get bank accounts in HS and they started managing their money from part time jobs. They’re way better with their money as 20 yr old than I was at 40. Ty. I liked and subscribed ❤
Yes! Get this credit cards paid off. You’ll thank yourself later. Thanks for watching 😊
How many OT hours do you work that your making nurses pay?
@@Shawn-ds9ugA lot!!!
@@Shawn-ds9ug Where or when on earth did I ever say cna makes the same as R.N.?
I began nursing as a second career at 51 years old after 27 years in accounting and administration. Nurses spoke freely about their finances to one another, and I could not believe some of the dire situations shared. Part of my disbelief was generational as my generation didn't often discuss personal finances. I learned that a number of nurses struggled financially despite being fairly well compensated. At first I was surprised that people this smart could be so foolish. I then realized that they were never taught to manage money. Their solution was to pickup an extra shift. I believe that a large percentage of nurses could benefit greatly from a personal finance course and a financial planner.
I’m going to be straight here anyone who still has to work at age 62yrs( Unless you really want to) is in trouble.
I'm 43yo and u just motivated me to keep going I just got pharmacology credits to do to challenge the lvn test I'm a cna , ma, med tech, phlebotomist, home health aide and more .. including 3d art designer for music celebs. Man ... Thank u❤ #iambeauteymafia 🌹

Definitely motivated me too. It's been on my mind to go into nursing as second career...still figuring out how to pay for it.
@@shn0301 stfu lol 😆 because I deeply regret that I should of restarted my restarted and went back and got another student loan after Biden signed for 39bill of student loan program 😆 dam thatz what my ass get for being picky to not use my credit after 7yrs which is the last time I was doing Mt prerequisite for nursing 😑
Depending on family dynamics... family can be added to that list
Absolutely 💯 So TRUE!! Thanks for watching 😊
So true. They say one of the top reasons people who make a good living end up back in financial ruin is due to them handing out money. I have set the boundary early and made it loud and clear, I do not financially support bad decisions and bad habits.

Yep I became a nurse in 2019 right before the pandemic hit so I was getting hit up non stop by family🙄. They seem to only see the glamorus side to Nursing......that dont realize there is a reason you get paid what you do and there is still shortages . Bedside nursing is soul draining
I’m so happy you made this video because you can’t tell the TikTok nurses nothing😂
Girllllll😂😂
