Point of correction: Due to a slip of the tongue I mentioned that James Chimombe started in the 1980s,in fact he started in the 1970s instead.Sorry about that.
Since I am an upcoming Afro-fusion I started to appreciate your works some months back when I saw your content on Facebook Mukoma I really appreciate all of this information you share to the people. I am working on my sound and identity on music I hope I will make it one day ❤
I loved this lecture, Mono....I would want to know the name of Chimombe's genre of music for I have always thought his music was not Sungura because of his unique use of brass instruments and keyboards. I put James Chimombe and Biggie Tembo in the same bracket and hope you would do a similar piece on Biggie Tembo. How I wished the two to have collaborated.
Some other guys who shaped his music are Daram Kalanga brass, vakabva vese kuOK Success and Nicholas Mugona bassist. Unfortunately both now late. Not forgotting his melodic voice
I wish to know more about this Phillip Svosve mudhara. Would you say he was responsible for the music arrangement in Chimombe's songs......that is one thing that stands out about in Chimombe's songs as well as his diversity which you have highlighted here.

One uniqueness about him - no backing vocals. It appears brass was his backing.
He also loved octaves just the late John Chibadura.
