      +Live Sound 101 7 years now! I got my CTS back in 2013! Time to renew, so I figured I'd go for my CTS-I, after that possibly the CTS-D.

    Is it an open book exam like the Electrician exam in my state? Are you allowed any reference materials or tools while testing?

    Hi. Happy 2018. Do I need to recite all the maths formula for CTS D. As I am anxious and frustrated to remember all the maths formula. Will the CTS-D show the formula for reference? Looking forward to your suggestion.

    • @LiveSound101
      @LiveSound101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No you do not need to recite or memorize all the math formulae. There is a formula reference document that you are able to access during the exam. It is not exhaustive and may include info you don't need so you really need to understand how to use them and when to use them but don't necessarily need to memorize them. Thanks for your useful comment that is very useful for me.
      However, I am studying CTS-D Element of Acoustics and the concept of sound is abstract.
      Does it appear a lot of questions related to acoustics?

    I'm having trouble passing the base CTS exam. I have been using CTS prep online to study but all that's on the test isn't in the study material. Please do you have any tips for me?

    • @LiveSound101

      I passed the CTS by taking the AV Essentials online class. I passed the CTS-D by taking a 3 day in person CTS-D prep class. I recorded podcast that explains my approach to preparing. Check out episode 23 of the AV Shop Talk podcast www.avshoptalk.com/episode23

      Live Sound 101 do you think it's possible to pass with just using the infocomm study guides Essentials of AV and cts prep?

    Hi, how did you prepare for the first level CTS? I'm working a junior av support position but I'd like to get the CTS to move my career along. thanks a mil.

    • @LiveSound101
      @LiveSound101  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did the first level of CTS in 2007. I had just graduated from UMass Lowell with a degree in sound recording technology so I got 100% in the audio section. The lighting and video stuff was a little more challenging but I took the AV Essentials class online through InfoComm which also helped me prepare a lot for the CTS.

      that's great to hear. thanks for the reply. I studied TV and video production in college but I'll be sure to study the info comm site too. Cheers

    i am talking my base cts exam in march, any pointers or tips? and is the actual test anything like the practice test?

    • @LiveSound101
      @LiveSound101  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I took the CTS exam back in 2007 so I don't know if my experience will be relevant for you. If I recall correctly some of the practice questions appeared on the real exam but with different values or worded differently so the you couldn't memorize the practice exam. I would recommend finding a study buddy who's taking the same exam and making flash cards. I would recommend the AV Essentials online class if you haven't already taken that. How did you do on the practice test?

      Live Sound 101 i actually am enrolled in the infocomm university course, they provide you with three books that pertain to the test, each varying in detail and depth. essentials to av essentials is the book or course i am currently in, 55% done. the first book i passed all practice tests at 100%, essentials to av, of the ones i have taken so far i have only failed one, netwrking and av data communctions scoring 55%, i plan on restudying that course though. as far as the large practice test, which 80 questions, i scored 66.7. alot of the info that was in the test, i have not read the subject matter yet that pertains to it.

      this first thing I would recommend is doing research commercial AV integration companies in your region to see what type of jobs are close by. I have no idea what the job market is like in Chennai. But you should come up with a list of 5-10 companies in your region where you could picture yourself working. In the US many companies will pay the fees associated with their employees taking the online classes and tests. You may want to pursue a company that you know will do this. have you created an account with InfoComm yet or taken any online classes?
