Thank you so much for this video, Peter. My name is Craig. I was searching the meaning of my name tonight and found out that it meant "Rock" and that it is "associated with rugged landscapes and rocky formations, or steep, rugged cliffs that makes for a stunning sight of the Scottish Coast". I then searched those terms and ran across this video. Your video on watercolors had more of an impact on me that you probably didn't intend. You not only taught people about watercolors, but you helped me better understand my name and who I am. Things you said in this video helped me in ways you'll never know. It was God speaking directly to me through you. Thank you for posting this, and thank you for your amazing watercolor art. My kids love watercolor and are just beginning to learn. They will benefit greatly from these videos.
Hi Peter - envy you your excursions into bonny Scotland. We were inn D & G forty odd years ago. Can't stand 'Nicola Crankie' but LOVE all parts of Scotland. Haven't those rocks got some character?!! - and colour?!! What a glorious seashore! Had a thought (miracle!). Would your technique for swirling clouds up the Glencoyne Head work for spray at the base of cliffs etc? Thanks for the vid. Best wishes - Paul in Staffs
As a Dumfries & Galloway woman myself, I love this one! May I ask what size brush/es you have used? For the initial washes and the finer detail. Thanks.
I'm pleased you enjoyed it Evie - D&F is a beautiful corner of the world! A full list of all the brushes I use can be found here: www.peterwoolley.co.uk/shop_BRUSHES.html. Thanks for the comment.
Too bad you never got the chance to come to Newfoundland. We got the nickname the roc k and majestic, rugged coasts is just a joke. But I love the areas you portray. And I love your paintings.
Actually... I did visit Newfoundland briefly in 2015, working on the 50th Anniversary cruise of the Marco Polo... I remember amazing coastlines very clearly! Thank you for the lovely comment Lorna - I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
Thank you for answering me. I didn’t expect that. While you were here did you get to see the West Coast of Newfoundland? There are many videos online now of hikes across east coast trail which is here on the Avalon. Some of that scenery is spectacular but they generally don’t get to the most spectacular scenes. They are too difficult to access. The West Coast is almost like a completely different part of the island and includes gross Morn national Park which is spectacular. There are many videos online showing Gros Morn.
Peter, cannot end with your type of painting, the colours are just running altogether and it looks a mess. I dont here you say when to let the first coat dry and then add on a further coats. Peter W.
If in doubt, wait for your previous wash to dry - that'll give you a little more control over the result. If you want colours to bleed into each other, or 'fuse together' then the previous wash needs to still be damp to allow that to happen. If everything is running together and looking a mess, then you clearly have a timing issue... take your time and don't rush it! I hope that helps...
